I'm 14 and I think this show (Judy) in particular is ABSOLUTELY Marvellous, nothing, no one today can compare, I just can't stand today's so called "singers" with autotune, lip syncing etc, with COMPLETELY talentless people, trying to seem talented, But her, I've loved her for a while, she's literally like a holy grail in a pile of trash, and when you discover her, Believe me, you never go back to today's "singers", love ya Jude's mwah❤️ Rest in Peace, They're Will never be anyone like you again!

You're spot on, Hayden. I'm 50 years old now. I 'discovered' Judy when I was 17 through a terrific CBC (I'm Canadian), late night program called, "Boys Like Us Like Girls Like Them" I learned so much about her rather than just Dorothy. I've been her biggest fan since (although I have some stiff competition lol). I am bewildered by the music industry's willingness to ignore the greats and what made them great. Sure, no one will argue that Beyonce is great. But in the bigger picture, artists these days are given three minutes to blurt out a few notes to some vague lyrics and gyrate their bodies. How on earth did we get to the point that this is what the standard should be? Kids these days can't hold a candle to Judy!!! That's okay, they probably don't even know who she is!

Happy birthday to Mr. Steve Lawrence, who turned 87, just the other day! Thank you Paul for posting these Garland shows - they are always fun and entertaining. Also, it is very much worth noting that (not long before this show took place) Judy had recently crossed paths with her old MGM "pal," June Allyson, who was still in mourning over the loss of her husband (actor, producer) Dick Powell (from cancer) the previous January. Judy saw her friend's tear-streaked face and immediately insisted she (June) appear on her show. It was a very kind gesture, and of course, Judy knew it would do June a lot of good - June would later write how much she needed and appreciated what Judy did for her at that very low point in her life.

I just adore the "tea" segment with June Allyson and Judy. I don't think I've ever seen Judy so natural and comfortable with a guest before. You can tell they were pals with a lot of shared history- socially and at the studio.

Her performances during the TV show were electric. Who the f would choose Bonanza over this kind of brilliance? CBS did her really wrong canceling her.

James T. Aubrey wanted to "control" everything while he was president of the network (1959-'65). He wanted to pick his own "stars", and make his own arrangements with production companies including Filmways (who gave him "MISTER ED", "THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES", "PETTICOAT JUNCTION" and "GREEN ACRES"), Herb Brodkin {"THE DEFENDERS", "THE NURSES"}, Jack Chertok {"MY FAVORITE MARTIAN", "MY LIVING DOLL"}, and Richelieu Productions [his old buddy, Keefe Brasselle- "THE CARA WILLIAMS SHOW", "THE BAILEYS OF BALBOA", ''THE REPORTER"]. He loathed dealing with talent agencies, sponsors, and stars he couldn't personally control, including Judy, Lucille Ball (Aubrey once said to her during negotiations for another season of "THE LUCY SHOW", "I'm not here to pump sunshine up your tush"), Jack Benny, Red Skelton, and Danny Thomas. He wasn't called "The Smiling Cobra" for nothing. He deliberately placed Judy on Sundays at 9pm(et), when he *knew* "BONANZA" [on NBC] was too popular with audiences at that hour, so that Judy would get only a small fraction of viewers who didn't watch. He would have preferred to cancel her as soon as possible, but she had an iron-clad 26 week contract with the network......so he just waited for the series to end before swinging the ax.

Thank you for posting these shows. I confess I'd never seen any beyond the first or second episode. I've now seen the entire season, and I can't believe how dynamic and creative each episode is: Exceptional guests, amazing minimalistic sets that are nothing short of art, and Judy is absolutely glamorous, gorgeous, and in perfect voice. In this Episode 6, I love watching June Allyson laugh with Judy telling stories about their MGM days. You could really tell she loved Judy (like all of us). I laughed especially hard when Miss Allyson said, "I don't like him!" referring to Jerry Van Dyke. No disrespect intended, but for me he detracted from the greatness of the show. The show got better and better as the episodes progress. Episodes 21 & 22 are each one hour of pure artistry. I simply can't believe this show was cancelled after one season. There's no variety show of that era to equal it in my opinion. Apparently, the television industry, or at least CBS, had no idea what to do with real talent.

I LOVE this show. It’s so perfect, and I’m so sad it was cancelled. I wish more people knew about it, and maybe that it wasn’t so repetitive. Judy Garland was just absolutely made for this, and it’s a shame what the industry did to such a talent.

Jerry is only on there because he is Dick Van Dyke’s brother. They could also do without Liza Minnelli. She is as terrible as Jerry and only on there because she is Judy Garland’s daughter. So much lousy nepotism in the business.

Jerry was on Judy's show because he was under contract to CBS at the time. Network president James T. Aubrey wanted him to star in a series of his own [he previously hosted a 1963 summer game show for them, "PICTURE THIS", and an unsold 1964 sitcom pilot, "MY BOY GOGGLE"- both of which are on KZbin], but was never able to find a suitable program for him.

I can tell he's a sweet person and I agree, he has some genuinely enjoyable moments. But even he has said how uncomfortable he was with the jokes they were giving him- especially the ones that were meant to deflate Judy's star image and make her more "relatable" to the audience. It's really very very sad. I read that he knew he was bombing on the show and being compared to his brother. He started to drink heavily during this time. It wasn't the right show for him. It wasn't the right show for Judy either, once CBS decided it needed fixing. ugh.
