Marin Alsop - a phenomenal musician, inspirational conductor AND an absolute devotee of my musical hero of all time - the late and EVER great Lenny Bernstein!!!! I also adore Sandi too! Ever since she announced the 'Sandwich Quiz' on No. 73 eons ago!!!

Two geniuses who spent the whole time praising their audiences, who happily consolidated their genius, which is so female!!!

OH MY GOD WORLDS COLLIDE AND TWO OF MY FAVORITE WOMEN I'm faint. Marin Alsop -- thank you so much for the wonderful Copland at CSO a few years ago, not to mention the red cuffs! It was just brilliant, you made Chicago understand New York and have a good time at it, too! Never heard them sound that way before. You were absolutely mighty. Looking forward to hearing you conduct again someday when I can leave the fricking house.

I am so glad my son found his instrument. I was quite poor when he was young and I was hoping that he would be ok with a clarinet because it was so much cheaper but he wanted the saxophone and I am so glad I went for it. He has his bachelor degree in music. His instrument is the baritone sax.

I love music though I have no ability - I can barely play the gramophone! But two things I've always been thankful for: 1) I'm old enough to have been in education when state schools still understood that music & arts are important. Kids were encouraged to try any & all instruments and anyone who wanted to learn to really play, was offered tuition. 2) My parents had totally differing musical tastes so from birth I've listened to classical, chamber music, show tunes, rock, pop, swing, big band, opera, jazz... Sometimes I hear people say of a particular genre "That's not for me", without ever hearing it. It would never cross my mind to not listen to some music because it was unfamiliar. Try it!

@@decodolly1535 Like you, I've never had the least bit of talent for any instrument. But I've not so long ago realized a very simple way to almost immediately do some fantastic things with lap steel guitar by tuning it to the simplest playable Maj-min combo and playing one string at a time. Of course, that wasn't enough for me so I set about improving the fullness of tone by also simple means and now I not only play as though I know what I'm doing, but I'm doing it on the best sound you can find on any stringed instrument! I'd like to find a way to share this with the world but a broken back keeps me housebound for the most part and I have no talent for technology. Anyway, life bites and then we get happy, right 🙂

I love their aversion to snobs, only because I never appreciated that either. :-) That being said I can't really disagree with any of their observations and opinions. Thanks for sharing this.
