Personally I think Marina Abrahamović is like a mirror. She shows people just themselves. She shows them their everything. But what happens if you put mirror in front of another mirror? The exact same thing that happened there with Ulay.

She HAD to be the one to reach out first, and She HAD to be the one to let go first. So beautiful, so poetic.
@mattarmstrong13203 жыл бұрын
This is the ultimate in closure. Yes, the ending of their relationship occurred on The Great Wall, but I feel as though she always wanted one more time. She finally got that moment. When Ulay sat down, he looked her in the eyes. The eyes were telling her it's okay. All of this performance, it's worth it. Then he exhaled. The exhale told her to breathe. Take a breath, let it all out. And then he left, as sudden as he came.

3:25 is when she realized it was him, her soulmate /past lover you see her pupils dilated, you can even see that strong and neutral image of hers disappear in a fraction of a second. She was still in love with him... Saying bye to him in 1970 was maybe the hardest thing she did, so to protect herself from a heartbreak which happend anyways she decide to become stronger looking neutral 24/7, as if this man was half of her soul and seeing him after all this year, was probably the most amazing surreal moment in a long time...•Closure•

She saw 'forever' in this man once upon a time in her life. Their entire relationship flashed before her, reminded her of her humanity. I can believe this man gave her love, fear, peace and despair. She still loves him, he admires her growth, her artistry, her ability to be relentlessly limitless. I see her, and I feel abnormality, a disruption in presence facaded in a shroud of enigma. "We" are simple, we see evil, a chaotic being. I see freedom and ambition, I'm too strong to be enchanted and interrogated by your artistry. I see you.

How moving... I read about this couple earlier... I came here sneering and thinking " What the heck is this..." I watched... I felt uncomfortable watching complete strangers sitting on facing chairs, staring at each other in a huge room, empty but for other people watching them... But when Ulay sat down... And Abramović at last moved to touch him... and they separated one last time... I cried... my heart ached for them... their immense Love still visible... In 5 minutes, I went from curiosity, disdain and sarcasm to deep emotion and tears... I FELT so deeply... That... is ART.

the most telling thing about a person's commitment is when they are willing to return to it when they would rather not - she lets his hands go. I would have had to keep my eyes closed if I were to sit after him. I wouldn't want to feel it, break the spell.
@jumbobiscuits15102 жыл бұрын
The idea is we are all vulnerable and somewhat misunderstood and feel confused about the purpose of life. This is an exercise in human connection and emotional bonding between humans based on sympathy. It could have the power to heal someone who feels unseen, unheard and all of your pain comes to surface. In functional families this is how it should be between family members. I would do this with my sisters years ago. She was really struggling then and this helped immensely. Marina has just taken it on a large scale. Every human is capable of it.

@Jonas Souza spirit cooking is not normal. Period. You can criticize right wingers but art DOES have limits no matter what leftist say. Some art IS distasteful. Some art is better left in the mind and not for display. I know I'll get a lot of backlash from the art community but I'm not saying all art just that that crosses the line. And baking an extremely human-like body, cutting it up into pieces while laughing and having other eat it is NOT art. It's a ritual.
