she is Fantastic... and old school singer, no fuss, no tricks to do things, no compromises, she doesnt cut top / low / trills / fioritura etc... she sings with full voice not with endless pianissimi / falsetti to hide her inability to sing top notes forte, she doesn't scoop, she doesn't pause endlessly before high notes, she doesnt sing what she can sing well and trash all the rest, she sings with full Body top notes and the low notes with a spectacular Chest Voice... an extremely well Crafted singer with spectacular Technique

I totally agree with Ryan C.'s comment below. Discovered your channel just last week and I'm in love with your musical selection! I am also learning a lot from your comment section, as I note that you and your followers really know what you are talking about. It is such a relieve to find wiseful, honest, balanced and non-dogmatic analysis of opera singers' performances. I mean, the comment sections of opera videos out there are usually plagued by so much blind superlative praises (and the typically surly arrogant reactions) that are of no help to those who - like myself - wish to cultivate a better opera ear and refine his/her opera taste. Congrats!

people want her to sound freer when she sings the Assoluta repertoire... but if she sounded freer like a butterfly on a rose field while singing the Assoluta repertoire!!! (without cutting off the lows - the highs - the dynamics - the fioritura - and without the least scooping) she would have rivalled early Callas. It is a Miracle we happened to have witnessed someone who could sound Free and Playful while singing the assoluta repertoire (Early Maria) not compare others to THAT!!

Marina is probably my favourite soprano today and I am patiently waiting for her complete studio Il Pirata to be released soon. I think her cautious approach to Verdi was a very smart move on her part. She started with Violetta, Luisa and Giovanna, then moved on to Amelia and Desdemona and would have debuted in Il Trovatore by now if it weren't for the pandemic. Here's an interview where she discusses her current interests in opera and what she is focusing on at present if anyone hasn't seen it: www.opera-online.com/en/articles/five-questions-to-marina-rebeka--2

I know you like her a lot and given the other voices around I incline to say you are right in your admiration for her.. but I stick to my opinion expressed on the other video of her.. I still sense something lacking.. she is not letting go, emerging herself into the role more she is in a way similar to Price .. liking her voice and what she can do with it, but not really expressing the woman she must be depicting.. unlike Callas who was doing all she could to be so far away from her own self on stage and actually BE that certain “maid”/ “queen”/“virgin vestale”... but ofcourse given her “rivals” .. well are there any?! 🙄🌚😬
@LohengrinO3 жыл бұрын
if she could "let go" and still sing like this she could rival Callas technically... this is the Assoluta repertoire she is singing and she does it with ZERO compromises (let me not start with the Compromises the rest of the great ones did in the Assoluta repertoire)... if she had the Agility to "let go" while singing like this... (completely agree she doesnt let go)
@mao18783 жыл бұрын
@@LohengrinO i think she is afraid of sounding harsh/ugly.. fierce.. she must like her own tone a lot and just simply can’t let go of it. Unlike Callas who hated her own voice to the ground but learned to live with it and like she herself said to give herself a pat on the back for sounding quite good on certain occasions 🤔😑🤦♀️ To be honest there were many great singers throughout the years whom the public adored.. for voice tone ( plushness..:)) for agility, for coloratura.. but they only got me in certain operas ( more or less suited for their particular “special gift”). What Callas had was the ability to read the script/musical partiture and inherently understand how that must sound like, how it must flow. It was her natural instinct that allowed her to melt the words into the orchestration so that it became a total/ a one.. she was the “prima donna” for this.. not one of the orchestra’s players but the one that mended it all together

@@LohengrinO I agree with you she is a perfectionist but I don't understand why some people can't just appreciate her exceptional talent. Such a magnificent artist and person! Though this has always been : Callas, nowadays praised at any rate, rightly, had so many bad, awful criticism in her time and later. She kept bunches of letters of hatred in boxes, displayed in an exhibition in 1998! (and in the book " La véritable histoire de Maria Callas"), and deleted all the nice ones... Also, as an anecdote, reacting to those comparing endlessly Callas and Rebeka (by all means for the defeat of Rebeka!) Rebeka's agent told her : "a pretty good comparison"...
