I have a couple picks: - Shark Tale (one of the worst Dreamworks films and clearly trying to mimic the success of Finding Nemo which came out a year earlier, but it is an underwater film, so it technically counts 😂) - Help! I’m a Fish (another bad/weird underwater animated film where Alan Rickman is the main villain 😂)

I do like how this natural, animalistic Cthulhu acts when it's blown up. It doesn't struggle or fight like a thinking villain, is thrashes and wriggles like a confused animal. It's looking around trying to understand what's happening. I like it when filmmakers make their animal-like monsters actually act like animals. Like how the Rhedosaur from "Beast From 20,000 Fathoms" begins to play with a crushes car out of cat-like curiosity

Alien planets don’t need to always be convergent evolution,since it’s an alien planet,they may be not fish (or majority of them),also,majority of animals there are vertebrates,like more than 60% and invertebrates only like 30-40%,where in earth,only 5% of all species are vertebrates (well,maybe less or a little bit more,maybe there are like more than 100,000 species of vertebrates we don’t know and that would make more than 10%)

The director confirmed the creature is Cthulhu (it's wing-like structures are visible on it's back when it is fleeing the explosion at the end). Cthulhu can slumber indefinitely at the bottom of the sea until the time is right for it to awaken and rise to the surface. It is actually a supernatural being that cannot be killed as it is not life in any terms that science can quantify or explain - a common theme with Lovecraft. As the famous H.P. Lovecraft quote goes, "That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange aeons even death may die."

Yeah he did...and many cosmic horror fans say it doesn't make (Cthulhu is intelligent, its technology is more advanced than human's one, is very powerful and was trapped by another god). They say that, if these creatures existed in the lovecraftian universe, they would be hybrids (breeding between Deep Ones and humans), or, ....They don't think that the bigest creature is nor , however, they think that it would be more probable than the possibility of it being Cthulhu.

The awakening of Cthulhu should lead to total madness for all mankind. As it didn't happen in the movie, I presume it wasn't Cthulhu. When the heroes encountered the small creature for the first time, there was some kind of slime. That slime reminds me of a Shoggoth, who can be of any shape, including humanoid. And can be any size. What I mean, they fought with Shoggoth, but there is Cthulhu in this story, you can see it image at the abandoned station. But he is still dead waits dreaming.

@@genPackman in Lovecraft's original short story, the rise of Cthulhu does not lead to total madness for all mankind. In fact, Gustaf Johansen rams Cthulhu with a yacht, wounds the creature, and escapes as it recovers (he is later killed by cultists from the Cult of Cthulhu).

The way I see it, while this is Cthulhu, straight up, it's the "spawn" that are open for more interpretation. Personally, I think they could be Deep Ones-like beings, only this specific group is affiliated, and therefore related, to Cthulhu instead of either Dagon or Hydra, and have developed separately from those, which could also explain why they look different from the common, traditional artistic renderings of the Deep Ones that are better known, too. As for other elements mentioned in this thread: no, not everyone on Earth is affected and goes insane by Cthulhu upon awakening, especially not while he is in the process of it. From what I remember of The Call of Cthulhu, it was clusters of people who were inflicted, mostly by repetitive and lucid dreams of the entity which were so grotesque they drove some into at least a temporary craze, and the people who seemed more directly afflicted were the cultists themselves, who have had far more contact with Cthulhu's sleeping mind and are meant to be more attuned to it, and even then, that's a bit more theoretical and interpretative, since we don't really see how these people acted before their attempt at waking the old one. Also, no, not everyone goes immediately mad at the direct sight of Cthulhu. Some of the witnesses are often quite lucid, especially time later after their encounter when they're giving their testimonies, and as for suffering lapses of what we may call hysteria and such, most seem to be depictions of fight, flight or freeze responses, exagerated perhaps, or with some touches of temporary amnesia, but still, natural shock responses that may occasionally be aggravated by pre-existing conditions, mental and physical fatigue, and/or altered states, with "supernatural" factors being more of a very likely hypothesis considering the type of narrators Lovecraft preferred and his inclination for "beyond the reaches of our sciences" themes and elements.

I have at most a passing knowledge of Lovecraftian mythology, and that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. 1. Cthulhu is not only intelligent, its knowledge surpasses humanity's by such a massive amount we can't even comprehend how intelligent it is. 2. Its powers are literally infinite. If it wanted to destroy a base or kill some humans, they would be dust with barely a thought. 3. Cthulhu is a cosmic horror which reach goes beyond the stars. Why would it care for some random ass drill manned by some random ass humans? It would have been no problem if the director said "inspired by Cthulhu" rather than "is Cthulhu".

Underwater is great, Alien meets the Cosmic Horror of H.P. Lovecraft and his creation Cthulhu, who is one of the “Great old Ones.” When it came to the littler creatures, I loved the inventiveness-particularly the one with the big mouth. This is a film I will sometimes put on in the background. I appreciate the scientific mindset but if linked to the Cthulhu mythos it is suggested the creatures are not of this world, (still, how would they have survived, and whatnot, are fun thing to think about.) Now, Cthulhu is not always depicted as an underwater/sea-based lifeform, however, Lovecraft does have more sea-based creatures, as can be seen in the Stuart Gordon film, Dagon, an adaptation of Lovecraft’s novella The Shadow Over Innsmouth. Two words “fish people.”

And per Lovecraft, these literally supernatural creatures aren't even made of matter as our science defines it. They defy the laws of physics and biology. It's just an element of this genre of fiction.

Cthulhu is not an animal. It's an extradimensional godlike entity, millions or even billions of years old. Also Cthulhu can't physically die, because his whole existance isn't bound on this plane of existance.

The idea of Cthulhu (if I'm remembering this correctly) is that it's like an ancient God-like being in the form of a monster, but the creature never originated on Earth, which I think was because it crash landed in the ocean (it's been a while since I last researched Cthulhu) and has been in hibernation ever since, because time to Cthulhu is very different in comparison to us. So, thousands or hundreds of thousands of years can pass before Cthulhu even wakes up in need to feed.

But because europa moon it’s completely covered in ice from the surface and the habitable part it’s a very deep ocean beneath that crust,it is a very dark atmosphere

It’s not roaring…it’s vocalizing like a whale but it’s bigger so it sounds even louder but it’s still a low frequency it’s also more of a growling kind of sound to me just big and picked up with their microphones and cleared up and put through another sound system without the water distortion and then it sounds like a roar as it’s big and loud..

Thanks for accommodating us who are fans of horror…Cthulhu, although biologically have some underwater creature characteristics is a cosmic god and is a popular icon in the cosmic horror or Lovecraftian literature (he was made by Lovecraft and has been added to a lot of horror fiction, art and media)…although he sort of slumbers under the water the idea is he is sort of not exactly in the same dimension as us unless was invoked or summoned to be in our own plane…same as with other gods…so technically they are underwater on Earth just in a different dimension where elder gods usually dwell to sleep or create stuff with their dreams…the smaller animals seems like deep ones (which are half human half deep sea creatures, they are more related to Dagon than Cthulhu, although Dagon might be one of Cthulhu’s servants on Earth and probably the reason why the deep ones are guarding Cthulhu)… But I really appreciate the scientific approach…also I love the Subnautica reference lol…

8:30 maria, i can reassure you. even if i don't like the idea of digging there, the earth's crust is on average 30 km thick. and the deepest hole drilled by humans is about 12 km. there is so much pressure down there that stones become soft. nowadays you can't drill a hole through the earth's crust ...yet^^. too much pressure, too much heat.

that 12 km hole was made using 70s technology in the 1970s and 80s so I'm pretty sure we can dig through the crust today if actually wanted to it for some reason

I thought you would have realized the creature is modeled after a frog that carries its babies in its back/ skin. You can look it up. I realized that’s what it was modeled after when the mother got up and they were in the skin.

If there was ever an ocean I would have liked to explore, it would be the Devonian (419 - 358 Million years ago) and the Jurassic to Cretaceous waters (201 - 66 million years ago). It's highly likely I would not last a few seconds though lol.
