***** This is the number one thing to truly remember for boot camp survival. You will NEVER do anything right in first phase. NOTHING. Just tell yourself over and over every day........."this is just a game". When you are making a puddle of sweat the size of a basketball from sweat dripping off your forehead in the barracks "grinder" and slipping with your hands and falling on your face doing push ups tell yourself, "this is just a game". If you let it get to ya, it WILL make you go crazy. If you are a brother, you know what I mean, if not.......you now have the basic key to survival.
@OliverDemari9 жыл бұрын
InfuriatedHawk It's not about doing it right the 1st time or even doing it right. Even if you do everything perfect like make your bed with no creases, you will still get your bed tipped by the DI for being creases. It's to test your willpower and teaches you discipline, to stand and deal with somebody shouting in your face and being a pain in your ass making your life harder. They are hurdles they expect of you to pass. none of this is to just be a dick. If a DI flips your bed and throws your clothes, you say thank you.

Feel free to criticize all you want. This training has been proven to work. These DIs have less than three months to transform fifty or so 18 year old shit heads into U.S. Marines. This is the training that makes it possible for you to sleep comfortable in your beds knowing you are safe. Many of the recruits and DIs in this video are now deployed to Afghanistan and other places around the world. They are not home with their families today for Thanksgiving. Just like I wasn't in 1990 during Desert Storm. They are out there protecting YOU! I think they deserve our respect. Don't you?

It amazes me how people just don't get it. They look at this behavior as if it is a bad thing or a waste of time. Taking a green normal person off the street and turning them into a soldier is a tricky endeavor. The point is to get the recruit into a state of frustration and stress and make them deal with it by suppressing irrational reactions (or in some cases, any reactions). This hardens their mind for future stress inducing situations and instills the sense of obedience to authority that the military in general requires. It is also a means to break down the individual ego, which can be a detriment when required to act as a member of a team or group. I only had to put up with Army basic training, and even it was pretty insane at times. Marine Corp is the most severe as they generate the core of our fighters so by contrast they endure even crazier antics.

Yeah, I was went through air force BMT which is a huuuuge joke compared to this but we quivered in our boots as they made us perform impossible simple task while they yelled at us. It conditions the civilian to perform under stress. At first, The yelling seems unnecessary but If a recruit can't handle a simple yelling then how will he be able to keep fortitude when he starts fucking rounds go off? I personally think recruits should be yelled at while they sleep and while they take a shit. It's amazing how the mind can transform and grow when placed under stress.
@colt8826SOLDIER11B7 жыл бұрын

My Army drill sergeants did this to us in 1984 boot camp several times, gave us a time limit to sort through all the gear on the floor, to see what gear was whos and get it back in our lockers according to the locker layout plan and everything in the drawers and hangers measured to specs. It was all mixed up in the middle of the bay. Flipped over bunks, mattresses, everything. we had an hour and a half to get it straighten it up before they came back in to inspect. That included buffing the scratches out in the floor the drill sergeants made when they flipped bunks.

I can only hope some of the old shenanigans are still in play with new recruits. I get it, don't hit recruits, no blanket parties, etc...but sometimes things just need to be instilled so the "Pyle" does not forget. Love looking back on this now. Obviously at the time, I was a scared 18 year kid right outta high school, and pick-up day was the most intense day of my young life at the time. I wasn't our platoon's guide, but I certainly remember when his rack was flipped over, torn apart, linen strewn everywhere, etc...that was always a bad day. Semper Fi!

Holy crap is this what marine boot camps is like. Our Instructor. Sgt. Dragada, it was like satan screaming at u face to face and the eyes was a part way to hell. But having former marine d.i.'s, I'm glad we had them teaching us. I used it as a way to build me up internally and mentally. What they did on preparing use to handle 16 17 year old teens who was facing possible prison time. Even made me a better prison guard at my other job as a c.o. and tactile team leader.

Takes me back to MCRD San Diego, 1981. Platoon 3102. Only our DI's didn't overturn one bunk. They knocked them all down like dominos, ripped off the bedding, dumped every sea bag, all while we were standing outside the barracks in formation looking in the windows, hearing all the noise, watching bunk after bunk topple, and stuff flying across the squad bay. After wrecking the squad bay and throwing shit everywhere, a DI came outside and said those dreaded words: "You have 3 fu***g minutes to unf**k that squad bay...GO!!" Of course it wasn't possible to square it away in 3 minutes. "Too slow, get back outside in formation." We stood again, watching and listening. We did this a few times in one afternoon. There were under breath comments outside of "f**k" "Sh*t" "this sucks" "we're fu***d" "I hope I can find all my stuff."

I used to hate when we had a hurricane come through the squadbay when literally everything you owned was mixed with everyone else’s. This was a very quick lesson on marking all your possessions with your laundry number.

20 years ago to this day I'd never forget 1st Battalion, Charlie Company, Platoon 1088.

I remember about the second week into basic at Fort Benning 2nd Division Delta 254, I went help a DS get something from third Platoons Barracks (called Hotel Benning because these were the concert barracks and the wood of 1st Division) and it looked like a Tornado went threw their barracks. Bunks every were, clothing, shoes, boots, you name it was strone about. Glad I was in 4th Platoon only my bunk and about 6 others were over turned that was it. Poor souls in 3rd though. Don't know what 1st or 2nd Platoons looked like but 3rd oh man. Bad, bad, bad. Must have taken almost all night to clean up. Fun times.
