Tulane's crew coach told me it's the nicest dock system they've used! He went on to say it's nicer than Harvard's floating dock system, it's super easy for the launch and retrieval of their boats!

Excellent idea! Perfect for a temporary platform for repairing and building docks on lakes that don’t allow the use of a floating dock. If using the 2x6 deck boards and frame what is the smallest dimension platform that can be built for one man to be stable on for doing repairs. I’m thinking of building a 6x6 platform for building a dock. Please give me your suggestions and thanks again

What kind of chemicals does this leak into the water?
@jensenium

I'd be curious to know what type of chemicals it leaks into the water, as well as water absorption. Just because something 'works' doesn't mean there won't be consequences to the environment or the product. I'd be interested to hear from a chemist. If it's safe for the environment, I'll definitely use it.

I'm also very interested to know this. I know Great Stuff makes a special pond foam that doesn't leech into the water. Could this be the same stuff?

@@hobbesthebrainslug12 This is not my video but it will not release chemicals into the water after it is hard. It will over the years absorb if subjected to freeze and thaws.. It should be protected with a pvc sheet (tank skirting) to prevent muskrats, etc.. from ripping it up to make nests..

How many years is the product guaranteed ? Polyurethane foam, even closed cell, can absorb water over time.

I plan to go to a lake with friends and I was going to buy some inflatables but that would be really expensive so I'm going to use foam and cut it to size making seats and an island (all to float on the water) but I have no clue about density or price or thickness or how to stick it together because I know sone types of foam are melted by some adhesives. So any advice.

I live next to a lot of lakes and I have a spray foam rig… I’ve been thinking about making some of these docks. I know the spray foam itself will last for a long time, but I wonder what the best sealant you could spray over it to make it last even longer? And ideas?

Put on a small mix tip and purposely spray A rich on the outer layers. 30 to 50 percent more A works well. If its going to be out of the water just paint it to prevent oxidation.

I'm curious to know, is it possible to use closed cell foam in rafts? I got the idea after using closed cell foam on a construction job. That's how I came across your video. I was wanting to know if you guys have ever tried spraying/injecting it into a cheap Coleman or Intex Raft or any type of a air filled pool toy?

Getting the right amount would be difficult. As it expands there is a good chance it will pop the raft. If you could cut escape holes, it might work. I like this idea.

If it was sealed from the elements it would be great. Wait till a boat leaks fuel around it. Put gas in a Styrofoam cup, same thing. And the guy with the power drill and the guy holding the cord out of the water should get head examined.

@@beebob1279 I am familiar with this type of foam. It is polyurethane and is unaffected by hydrocarbons and acids. Styrofoam is polystyrene and will immediately disintegrate as readytoboat states.

This is great idea! I'm about to build a float dock and am trying to decide between 55 gallon drums and your standard dock floats. I haven't considered this option though. My one concern would be the smell. I recently had closed cell foam installed into my pontoon boat and it is fairly pungent. Does the smell ever dissipate or is it forever present?

1. This is going to be super expensive. 2. That foam is extremely toxic petroleum-based nonsense. I would feel extremely uneasy about leaving a giant mass of it suspended in a body of water on my property, especially if I care at all about the well-being of that body of water.

Lick_a_Butt You're right about it being expensive. I was also concerned about it effecting the environment. Until I used it . It's extremely durable and won't flake off like Styrofoam. A dock like this probably last a couple hundred years.

Every man made product leeches, its matter of what it is and how much and how often it does leech away. Even the pressure trested timber used in marine structures fixed of floating is leeching the treatment into the water. Nothing is cheap when it comes to making something you want to last for more than 20 or more years/decades, but fiberglass when done right will last easily 100 years and with proper annual or biennial maintenance to clean off barnacles and other marine life growth, but will not get eatten or rot away like wood or rust and eat away like steel.

@@nunliski I know it has been a few years, but Styrofoam is petroleum based as well. Once cured, it, like closed cell foam is a safe product. How about treated wood? It uses chromated copper arsenate which is extremely toxic.

@Sunlightcontractorsllc
@Sunlightcontractorsllc 7 жыл бұрын
When you seal it properly there's no wood rot. 28 mils of silicone, then 2LB closed cell 2" in depth. Land and sea construction used this on their Tulane swimming dock. You can call them for first hand experienced information. It's been in the water for over 2-years.They are out of New Orleans. The owner's name is Lee.

Can you please tell me if you are capable to construct a dock size of one or two football fields? If to be in tow across the sea I would imagine it would be a good idea to have a sized surface area to accommodate a mission.
