These guys are awesome. I'm in a special place in the Marine Corps that let me go to a lot of retirement ceremonies, recently, one for MARSOC. The brotherhood that these guys have in indescribable. The speeches were nothing like the other retirements I have gone to. There was no thanking, there were just war stories. It was like a group of guys sitting around a campfire, saying their final goodbyes to one of their own.

+The Arcenal Several factors. MARINE SOF GUYS have traditionally been left out of most operations traditionally assigned to the SEALS, A TEAMS and so forth. Although their capabilities have always been of the highest degree, their lack of participation in SOCOM brought a limited theater of operations. Clearly that has changed. MARINE RAIDER UNITS, will now bring to bare their outstanding discipline and tactical maturity into the SOCOM community. Ultimately all SOF groups are extremely capable but the CRITICAL SKILLS OPERATORE of the CORPS are a special breed.

I disagree insofar as MARSOC's unique perspective and background doesn't make them superior to other SOF units, just different. They're definitely a top-notch unit and despite some growing pains, I have high hopes for them. However, many will be the first to tell you that their comrades in SOCOM or foreign SOF units are just as capable. Each unit has its own niche.

What's the real difference between Army Rangers of the 75th Ranger Regiment and Marine Raiders? Do they do any of the same missions? There are so many SOF that it almost seems like every branch just wants to have their own elite operator.
@caleb25072 жыл бұрын
Rangers are not “elite” (in the same class as MARSOC). Rangers are more equal to Marine Recon, whereas MARSOC is like the Green Beret/ Navy Seals of the Marines. MARSOC has the same types of missions as any other SOF. I dont know much about Rangers but from what I do know, they dont work as clandestine as these guys (correct if Im wrong). Yes each branch (except Coast Guard I think) has a SOF group. This is due to the needs and structure of the modern US military. Being able to have highly versatile branches with a wide variety of options and capabilities increases our lethality and edge over our enemies.

It matches pretty close to a SEAL. So as far as numbers go they are much like SEALS, but other than numbers I have no idea.
@mario62798 жыл бұрын
***** marsoc is badass there can never be too many special forces units but they should stop creating any new ones. I also imagine they categorize them for example they wouldnt put green berets to do a mission that involves capturing a high profile criminal/terrorist. Usually the seals take care of that shit but I couldn't see why marsoc couldn't do the job just as good and on top of that they're marines!!!
@TheDigitage8 жыл бұрын
+SOCOM Gaming When Marsoc started in '06 they took in most of the experienced force recon guys to start with so Idk if I'd consider them new inexperienced guys. And today Marsoc training (ITC) is 9 months compared to seals 6 month buds and that's if you pass the 1 month of assessment and selection just to get to Marsoc ITC. Tbh I'd compare them more to green berets than seals as they also have 1 month assessment and selection before they can even go to their 9 month training as well.

Jumperman 1 I’m an 80’s Marine 0311 Corporal from Kilo Co 3/7. Your statement is exactly what I tell people about us old marine infantry. I went thru my typical cold weather, mountain, desert and jungle training as all grunt units did back then and I also spent six weeks in Coronado getting the sh!t beat out of us learning a lot of amphibious training and techniques. I also spent five weeks in Panama training with Green Berets in jungle warfare. We weren’t “special “, we were just do it all and get it done Marines! That’s what made the Marines prestigious in the first place and why Raiders were short lived in WW2. Both commandants I served under had the believe that every marine is a grunt and grunts especially do it better than others. Lastly, only because I just remembered, my platoon competed in exercises with Army Rangers back in 86 and needles to say, they lost twice! Both as the offensive unit and defensive unit. In closing my uncle was a Recon Marine in Vietnam, and the driving force for me joining, so I realize there is a need for them, but I think the wanting to be special is just a product of the newer and younger generations. Older Marine Grunts conducted much of the training these special ops guys do today. Heck in today’s world, I could go out and get all this training and never have to join the service, as they’re all teaching it now on the outside. Anyway, cheers and Semper Fi Marine!

Do you play any sports? Things you can do now to prepare physically like playing sports will serve as a foundation to succeed once you join the Marines. Marines in general are physically fit Marine Raiders/Navy SEALs/Delta Force are on a whole other level. So I would recommend joining a swim team now, if you don't know how to swim, learn. Once you learn then join a swim team, stick with it even if you suck. You will get better. One of my captains in the Marine Corps didn't learn to swim until he was 15. Joined his swim team in high school and ended up being decent enough to swim for the Naval Academy swim team. So within 4 years he went from not knowing how to swim to swimming at the collegiate level. Being a great swimmer is very important to making it in MARSOC/SEALs, so that's number one. Other sports I would recommend is track, cross country, soccer. Basically anything that gets you out running around, baseball and football you really aren't running as much as the other three sports I mentioned. A third tier of sports I would consider is gymnastics or wrestling. I would play at least two of these sports between now and when you graduate from high school. Ideally join a swim team and one other sport, preferably from group two. Also take your school work seriously. These guys aren't just all brawn they are brains too. To join the military you have to take a test called the ASVAB. Your score will tell you want jobs you are eligible for. MARSOC requires you to get a higher score than say just joining the infantry. So don't overlook academics. A book I'd recommend is "Way of the Warrior Kid: From Wimpy to Warrior the Navy SEAL Way" By Jocko WILLINK He spent 20 years in the Navy Seals. It's a book for kids in a story format that can serve as a guide book for you right now on ultimately achieving your goal of being a Raider.

MARSOC tryouts are full of guys who thought they were great swimmers, most of those guys don't end up passing. If you join a swim team and a soccer team and play both between now and the time you are 18 your chances of making MARSOC will have increased dramatically. If you use to be on a soccer team and don't play now through the time you graduate high school it won't do you any good. Good luck

It would probably suit you best to join the Corps, because that way you'll be able to enlist as an 0311 and become a well seasoned infantryman and within a couple of years you can have yourself prepared for "Recon Indoc." It's there that you'll "HONE" your swimming skills (Better learn a bit before you tryout) get high speed schools like "Airborne, Ranger, RSLC, Sapper, Diving School, etc; then within another 2 years or maybe you'll be able to submit your packet to MARSOC and they'll review it and see that they'll have something to work with... Cause they're not letting you come right outta high school and trying out for them....You won't get past the interview session. Trust me ., at 22 with the skill-set you've obtained and the maturity gained as a young person you will be in a better position, and if you don't make it in the worst of the worst thing that could happen is you'll end back up in leg-land as an 0311 again.., (Not sure if Recon would take you back.) but you'll be looked up to by all the kids who'll see your gold jump wings and the skill-set you've picked up in training in Recon and achieved in all the schools they sent you to. With the Navy, it's either SEAL, SWCC or Riverine, no in-between.... , and if you don't make it into one, you don't automatically get into another.......You'll probably end up scraping paint off the sides of a ship or something....Unlike Army where they'll send you to an infantry unit (Most Likely Airborne) (Maybe) if you're jump quald and infantry or Cav -Scout trained before RASP and you wash out.. Good luck in all you're endeavors.

so what's the difference between raiders/recon/marsoc?
@MARSOCAlwaysFaithful7 жыл бұрын
Wulfz, MARSOC Raiders make up the Marine Corps' component to U.S. Special Operations Command. Our mission sets, equipment, training, funding and authorities come from SOCOM. The Marine Corps has three reconnaissance battalions that provide enhanced intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and direct action raiding capabilities in support of the three Marine divisions. Additionally, the Marine Expeditionary Forces maintain Force Reconnaissance companies that provide the same recon capabilities to the MEF commanders (3-stars). Recon Marines are a legitimately high-speed force of professionals, but the operational focus and missions are different than those MARSOC Raiders conduct and support as part of SOCOM.
Force recon supports the MEU, MARSOC is a special operations force that does FID, counter terrisom, direct action/ raids, special recon, halo/haho, hostage rescue, deep recon, sabotage, kidnapping of hvi or hvts

Well being a puke civilian all Willy millions such willy-nilly and such. Sometimes I would think. And if a civility to understand the basics of the Marine corps. Could be understood by a civilian like myself. I would think it would be amazing to work with individuals like that. Top Marines and such. Left or right it doesn't matter commitment honor courage. Pushing forward it can't hurt not feeling each other. Or failing each other more importantly. This smart sock stuff I'll tell you what I may rslc m a r s o c. Dropping the mic. Later caters. Thanks for the meal that would be caterers. Thank you taters later catch you on the flip flop

I have a bit of a question, I need an answer from a veteran but any insight is great! I'm very conflicted on joining the Raiders or the Rangers. I have a ton of respect for both units, it has always been a dream of mine to be on DELTA Force not likely I know, but I feel I can push myself to any limit needed. On the other hand being A Marine Raider is also A dream. I'm not asking who has a bigger dick, I'm asking where can I make the most difference? I will be honest I'm not doing it becuase I want to serve my country, I'm doing it becuase I feel like if im over there fighting for the guy/woman next to me he or she will have a better shot of going home to their famlies. I dont know if this will help answer my question or not, but here is A descripion of myself. READ BELOW! AGE: 14 HEIGHT: 5'10 AND A HALF WEIGHT: 146lbs BUILD: SMALL FRAME BUT GOOD BIT OF MUSCLE HOBBIES: HUNTING, FISHING, FITNESS, AND LONG RANGE SHOOTING I really hope this helps if it dosen't let me know what needs clairification. Thanks!

MARSOC makes Ranger school look like daycare. Marines are known for being first in last out so if you want to make the biggest impact MARSOC is the way to go
@tylermorris47308 жыл бұрын
+Angel Arroyo. Ranger school is not what I'm worried about I feel I can do it now. Like I previously stated I want to be on Delta force and MARSOC (Not possible I know) Small tight knit counter terrorism squads are what I'm aiming for. I see videos of MARSOC and there hitting the enemy from range and then I see rangers they are running across fields moving up and fucking shit up. I love both, maybe I will be lucky enough to serve in both Army and Marines. But your opinion is greatly appreciated! P.S RANGER SCHOOL DOES NOT LOOK LIKE DAYCARE! Lol!

If you're worried about the amount of action you'll get, Socom generally picks the closest unit the the area
@darnellhill1438 жыл бұрын
There is a lot of research you have to do. But to give you some quick info MARSOC are naturally going to be more amphibious than rangers. Rangers primary assault objectives pretty much search and destroy. Force recon and MARSOC can assault; however, there expertise is there entry which is usually undetected and gathering intel(recon is short for reconnaissance ) to report for units like rangers. Another HUGE difference is the training for rangers you have a 2 month course if selected to go to the 75th you go. Recon is much longer the first 3 mon is just indoc.

Amateurs in the SOF community
@smellmyclock5 жыл бұрын
Lonny Randolph how ignorant are you? To be a Raider you need to have served one contract before even considering attending selection. So they’re all seasoned before being an operator On top of that MARSOC started in 06 as a detachment of force recon so they’ve always been in the game lmao
@lonnyr225 жыл бұрын
@@smellmyclock as I said amateurs in the SOF community started in '06.....infants the community and started out of embarrassment due to the fact that the Marines where the last into the fight on the war on terror due to the Marines extreme lack of SOF capabilities. And "force recon" has never been SOF or Part of the JSOC community. They just want to be apart of the club but every individual I have worked along side with in those communities all look as them as a joke. Only marines and uneducated individuals on SOF think that they are a big deal.
