DEVGRU/ST6 and a couple marsoc raiders killed a green beret “hazing him” but I read that he (sf guy) found out the the jsoc (ST6) guys and the raiders were stealing money from somewhere that they were supposed to give to informants or something along those lines.

God damn, does it give anyone else the chills when they think of how many badass professionals we have in USSOCOM? Not only are there the legendary tier one units in JSOC with Delta Force, DEVGRU, 24th STS, ISA, and RRC, but then there are the USMC Raiders, US Army 75th Rangers, US Army Green Berets, US Army 160th SOAR, USN SEALs, USN SDVT, USN SWCC, and USAF CCT/PJ/SR units. Then there are up trained conventional forces labeled as tier 3 or "special operations capable" for groups like USMC Force Recon Companies (based on the training, these guys are as close to "tier 2" as it can get - they pass USMC Recon/US Army Airborne/USMC Combat Diver/SERE/SOTG courses and then have access to most cross-service specialist courses), USMC Recon Battalions, USN EOD, USN Seabee Engineer Reconnaissance Teams, US Army 10th Mountain Division, US Army 82nd Airborne Division, and US Army 101st Airborne Division. This isn't even counting the CIA Special Activities Division which recruits from Tier 1 units, many thousands more who are "special operations capable" based on their advanced training and activation or attachment to USSOCOM units in specific scenarios, and the many thousands of support personnel including those in PSYOPS, civil affairs, and logistics. The US Coast Guard also has numerous specialized units with special operations training, and it would take a full-on book to properly explain the never-ending training investment for the US Armed Forces as a whole. Pretty insane.

scotiansen that isn’t true. Seals primarily functionate as strike units or hit teams. With quick infil and exfil (primarily, off course there are exceptions). Raiders have a very broad spectrum of missions. Raiders are the more widely useable unit in comparison to seals, who are trained for a very specific mission type.

Do what is good and you will have praise from the same; for it is a minister of God to you for good. I did my time in the USMC from 1988-1996, most of that time was spent as 0311 with an M60 team in the weapons platoon, so allow me to elaborate on some things: First and foremost, the Marine Corps and the Navy essentially started the special operations in 1943 with amphibious recon and the two original Raider battalions, while the Navy was developing their UDT's, forerunners to the SEALS. The Army might have had the OSS around the same time, but they did not have special forces or special operational forces until the creation of the Green Berets in the 1960's, under Kennedy's turn as CIC. The USMC is recognized as having the first special operations teams, when they formed Test Group 1 and Test Group 2, the forerunners to the latter Force Recon units, and the TG 1 and 2 were established in 1952. Navy SEALS as we know them today, originally were authorized by President Kennedy around 1962. Now, fast forward to 1987 and the creation of Special Opetations Command, under which the Army, Navy, and Air-Force had contributed units, but not the Marine Corps, and that was by order of then CMC General Alfred Gray, himself a former amphibious recon officer, who said "all Marines are special" and as such, the USMC would not join SOCOM. What he did direct however, is the resdesignation of the MAU (Marine Amphibious Unit) to the MEU (Marine Expeditionary Unit), and as such, marine infantry battalions, such as my former one 2/2, underwent enhanced training to be certified as SOC (Special Operations Capable) which then meant when assigned as a BLT (Battalion Landing Team), the MEU/SOC could employ in limited special operations action to at least a tier 2 mission, until relieved by a regular SOCCOM unit. So, in today's modern era in regards to the Marine Corps, you have Force Recon, Division Recon, ANGLICO, and MEU/SOC that are special operations capable, and you have since 2006, MARSOC which is the Marine Corps contibution directly to SOCCOM. However, because MARSOC was originally formed from two Force teams, means that training and mission sets might be similar, but that Force reports directly to the MAGTAF commander and Raiders report to SOCCOM.

General Gray, when he was a Major back in the late fifties helped develop the extraction technique, I forget the name, but it uses a balloon to lift a line, which is connected to the extractee via a parachute rig. A passing aircraft uses a catcher to snag the line and reel you in and, wham bam, your ass is had. They used it in The Green Berets.

Having worked with Marine Raiders, I found them to be very professional, disciplined, and mission focused. They were also polite, and well spoken. Very much comparable to Army SF. I mean that in a good way. SEALs, especially the newer generation, tend to be more loud-mouthed and flamboyant. Over generalization of course, but makes you wonder about the types of people who apply to BUD/S and what they expect out of it.

This might be a stupid question but bear with me. So Marine officers with the MOS of 0370... They're actually on the ground as squad leaders right? This is the question I want to ask my recruiter bc I'm deciding whether to enlist & try for 0372 or become an officer and try for 0370. I just want to be on the ground in the combat (in MARSOC obviously) and this question is the decider of what path I take (enlisted or officer). Can someone please clarify.

NikoSuavéHD Go 03 first. You can't contract as a CSO. You have to either have 2 or 2 and a half years left on your contract or be a Corporal before you can go to A&S. And there aren't any guarantees you'll get through A&S and go to ITC. And officers aren't squad leaders. That's normally a Gunny's or Staff Sergeant's position in a Raider team
@SlickSith
@SlickSith 6 жыл бұрын
There are probably a lot more questions you need to be asking. Don't get any information off social media platforms. Have individual conversations in person with people that have taken the path themselves in recent years. Second hand or outright false information will lead to you being a miserable person. Experience: Marine Infantryman and Recruiter. Ask your recruiter lots of questions, if he's good he'll have the answer or will get someone that does. Also don't get hung up on what sounds sexy going in, keep an open mind, you may find other paths are better suited to you.
@MattK-ku8td
@MattK-ku8td 6 жыл бұрын
Captains wont get much time on a team, you're better off enlisting. Master Sergeants (E8) still operate with the team as Team Chiefs, most E8s by that time are behind a desk. And you can go to selection as a LCpl however you need to be at least a Corporal to go to ITC.

+J Warner Not true at all, while SF focuses on FID missions Raiders have more of a focus on Direct Action, Counter Terrorism, Counterinsurgency, and are an amphibious unit by nature (they are all Marines after all). +jhonard tagalog I believe the uniqueness of the raiders is they provide a skillset that is multifaceted. They can work with sf doing FID, they can take an oil rig like the SEALS and they can provide direct action abilities like the rangers. Draw skills from their force recon background as well. This is probably why they've been greatly utilized in the past few years.
