The amount of hard work and effort that goes into taking a house, all the fighting, planning and then "boom", one artillery strike. Respect. And rest in peace, to the kia.
@disposabull
@disposabull Жыл бұрын
This is exactly why saying "fight like NATO" really doesn't apply in a situation where the enemy has radios, mortars, artillery, MLRS and air support. Sure you can be the Seal Team Six of CQB, but if you spend 5 minutes clearing a building, flutter kicks don't make you good enough to take a 152mm shell to the dick and walk it off. Cutting the building full of Spetsnaz in half with 20-30mm chain gun? Better. A couple of tank rounds? Better. Even a Humvee with a Mk19 going to work on the building would be better than the end result of this tactic. Don't clear rooms, blow up buildings and gtfo.
@jarivuorinen3878
@jarivuorinen3878 Жыл бұрын
@@disposabull It's always risky to clear building by foot but sometimes there are valid reasons to do so. Building may be too sturdy to reasonably destroy. This is exactly the reason why drywall factory in Bakhmut was fought over for so long. It received massive amount of artillery battering but there it still stands, unable to operate of course but it's valuable cover in the area. In close quarters like this it's also possible that building houses valuable intel and you want your hands on it. There are surely other reasons like protecting civilians, for example Bakhmut can't reasonably be leveled completely because there are still estimated 4000-5000 civilians in the city. There could be human shield situation as well. Otherwise I completely agree with you that leveling a residential building like this is the way to go, if you have means to do so.
@Fergus_0703
@Fergus_0703 Жыл бұрын
@@disposabull except in this situation, they didn’t know there are Russians in the building until it was too late. You can’t just level all buildings without making sure there are no civilians or enemies in them. After knowing there are enemies on the house, they still can’t pull out and have a tank deal with it since the point man was shot and was trapped inside. So other than that, the commentator above me stated all the other reasons why CQB tactics are important and a 155 mm shell can’t solve everything.
@Darwinist
@Darwinist Жыл бұрын
@@disposabull I do not doubt at all that had they figured out the house was barricaded by an entire squad of elite infantry before they went in they would have hung back and dismantled the structure with AT-4s and other RPG weapons. The whole thing happened because their lead man got hit and separated from the rest of the squad before they realized the full gravity of the situation, and they were fighting as much to get to his position to extract him as to clear the entire building. That led to them spending way too long in one place and thus becoming vulnerable to the artillery strike. "Leave no man behind" is a worthy principle and crucial for morale....but sometimes it comes back to bite you in the ass.
@disposabull
@disposabull Жыл бұрын
@@Darwinist I agree with you and the other posters about the start of events. But after the first guy goes down instead of suppressing the building, grabbing the one wounded and retreating they pushed forward, won the fight, got whacked with artillery. Got to be a better tactic than this... Found the enemy? Good. Now run away and blow the building up from your safe space. Attempting CQB without support against an enemy who can rage quit this earth by dropping artillery on everyone isn't a good path forward. I admit I'm an armchair general and I don't know what was happening inside of the building or how realistic evac & retreat was. Every guy here is NATO trained infantry. When you are in the position of the Taliban, (no support) against an enemy that has support (NATO) using NATO tactics isn't going to end well.

It's not just bullets and grenades they need to watch out for, anyone else notice the nail sticking of the wood on the ground, you can see it multiple times but right at 6:46 it's right where he kneels down his knee must be almost touching it, a 3" or 4" inch nail in the knee joint will take you out of action just as easily as a bullet, would not be to bad if they just stood on it like they almost do multiple times, but could still get a nasty infection, which could cost them their foot or even life if it turned into septicemia or sepsis.

To be fair, a 3-4 inch nail is still easier to push through and cope with than a bullet :p as a kid, I was doing laps of a local lake with my dad and accidentally stood on a nail roughly that size. My foot was really sore there, and I couldn’t put weight on my heel (where it had gone in) but I didn’t think anything was all that wrong until I went to take my shoe off and felt it being pulled out, then I was significantly displeased and we went to the hospital :p

They need proper training time as a team. What is happening is that they are being rushed into battle with no preparation time. Everybody piling in one doorway at the same time is a very linear path that defenders can hold out against.
@bighands69

The more time you can get to plan a breach the more likelihood of success and less likelihood of fatalities. That is why it is so important to train train train so that you have an automatic process that just takes effect when carrying out breaches. Those windows should have been exploited so as to create a distraction point which would split the focus of the defensive team. When they know that you are coming to enter by one point such as a doorway it means their whole focus and fire focus will be on that entrance.

A few questions...that I have watching a video. Why go from a BMP into a building. Sure it may provide some cover however you lose all ability to maneuver, and the ability to see the enemy is greatly diminished. In short order the Spetznas are completely surrounded in a relatively small building, sure they used it to their advantage making kill zones. I'm not sure being in a building vs out in the surrounding area was a great move. Second. It seems the spetznas called an Arty strike on their position..no?

I hope you are able to react to the full story from this, as told by one of the Finnish guys. His TL was the "point man" mentioned in this video, and was trying to negotiate the surrender of the russians. Apparently one of them came out and was shot in the head by the american TL, which caused the rest of the russians to fight to the death, killing the point man and then also calling in the arty. Edit: Just to be clear, the american TL the Finn referred to was visible in the doorway here, and is not the redbearded one that throws the 'nades.

normally US forces wont do the rom to room fighting. its too messy for their liking and completely understandable. if given the chance they will far sooner drop the whole damn building in one go rather then clear it. in Ukraine thats not generally an option from what i hear. either there is no air cover, no support or just no ammo at the moment for a random fire mission.
@brolohalflemming7042
@brolohalflemming7042 Жыл бұрын
I think that was their mistake. I saw the opening engagement where they fired at the BMP. Three times, from exactly the same position. Then milled around in the same yard with the same feature they'd been using for 'cover'. Given artillery, mortars and drones have been a feature, I think they really should have done more fire and movement because they stayed in the same spot for far too long. Sadly, the artillery that eventually showed up was inevitable. Like Ageless said, it's far safer to not breach and instead use your own artillery or mortars to deal with the threat. But Ukraine either doesn't have the capability to support their ground troops like this, or isn't using it correctly.

Also, we have to realise that Ukraine is fighting so we don't have to. The reason why Finland is joining NATO and I don't have to worry about having to defend against a russian invasion is that Ukraine didn't roll over and has made a heroic effort to defend their homeland and freedom against the invading russians. The RuAF are suffering losses that will take years, if not well over a decade to recover from, severely diminishing their ability to threaten the peace of europe for years to come, and all that the collective west has had to do is supply (mostly surplus) materiel and training. Anyone with half a brain cell should see that we should give Ukraine all the support they need, as the return on investment is security and stability for years and years.

Anyone in the West standing with Russia is just stupid or just degenerate Commies. "I want to warn Americans” "As a people, you are very naive about Russia and its intentions. You believe because the Soviet Union no longer exists, Russia is now your friend. It isn't, and I can show you how the SVR [formerly KGB] is trying to destroy the U.S. even today and even more than the KGB did during the Cold War." “the Cold War never ended." The American people, however, are not fond of listening.” -Spymaster, double agent and Russian defector Sergei Tretyakov “I do not understand how one can speak of improved relations with Russia. She is run by people who do not comprehend what such a word means. You may delude yourselves that you have good relations with them, but for them it means that they can pressure you even more, and demand even more. This pressure will last as long as you are under their control. They are especially interested in seeing you divided and quarrelling amongst yourselves. (...) They are the descendants of the Cheka and the KGB, and, as such, they have their own specific mentality. They do not understand what normal inter-state relations mean. For them any other country can [only] be either an enemy, or an agent. Besides these two criteria there is no room for partners or friends. These heirs of the Soviet services do not, because they cannot, have a Western mentality, which assumes that if two sides agree to something, they carry out their obligations. For Russia’s current rulers such a policy is unattractive. They believe that they must act aggressively. If you give them your finger, they will take your entire arm.” -Soviet dissident, Vladimir Bukovsky
