my recruiters say they get a few guys asking to be scout sniper or recon, but not as many as you would think. Everyone goes through a phase of thinking they are going to be special ops or some bullshit like that when they first enlist. It's more common to pay your dues in regular infantry and then earn your spot at one of the special schools than to simply enlist hoping to get a slot and hoping you qualify physically.

recon is not MARSOC, think of it like this, the army has rangers and then green berets. that Marines have recon and then MARSOC, they're two different MOSs. I had to have my recruiter give me that example to better understand it.
