We are FINALLYYYYY back on the "road" and cruising to St. Augustine. We got a rebuilt paragon transmission for our trawler and we were able to save the old one for spare parts and a whole spare unit if I can find replacement parts for it. Thank you everyone for your help and Mike at Thermaco transmission in Stuart as well as the guys at Transmission Marine in Ft. Lauderdale for the rebuild parts.

Great job getting the trans fixed. I am a test engineer at the submarine base you will pass up next to Cumberland Island. I gotta say it does my heart good to see a young man fixing his own equipment. So the next really tricky shallow area is Sisters creek just off the St Johns River in Jacksonville. Did some bump and run with a Morgan out island years ago. The channel markers are not intuitive at all, so watch your chart close. Having a blast checking on you guys. Julie loves Jetty.

So glad to hear that you got another working transmission! I am sure it may have been said before, but at some point, have your original transmission repaired and carry it on board with you as a spare just in case this new one ever breaks down. You can never have too many spare parts when at sea

Fun with marine drives and stuffing boxes! Going up the ICW, our guest announces that "water is splashing around the engine room". Yikes! The stuffing box had come undone, and water was up to the shaft coupling. Opened the engine bilge valve, threw the clutch lever on the Jabsco belt driven pump, after a few minutes, "Oh, I see!"

Yes, it is very simple (I have two Ford Lehman's in my Trawler). Call American Diesel Corp at 804-435-3107 and they will send you instruction and specs for the adjustment. They are the premiere Ford Lehman experts in the country and will provide as much phone support as you need.. Valve adjustments are critical for longevity on the Ford Lehman's.

You guys are fantastic. You are giving me hope for some of the younger generation (I am 70 years old). I see so many young people who believe it or not, can not do anything for them selves. Things as easy as painting a bathroom, removing wallpaper from a wall, replacing wood fence slats, etc. i see this lack of independence as leading our country into an entirely socialistic society where everybody relies on government to take care of them. Personal I would like to see us moving back towards a pioneer society where Independence and Freedom was appreciated.

If you have to repack the stuffing box, think about getting one of the drip-less stuffing boxes. May require some modification to your hull fitting but they seem to be almost install once and (almost) forget about it. I check mine daily but a lot of people do not look into them until the new season.
