Heard them on a field presentation in Fredericksburg , Va. In 1996. Three soprano bugles played the typical piccolo part. Awesome triple tonguing , most impressive version I've ever heard.

Very restrained, dignified performance for these guys, because they have a legit MONSTER hornline that can unleash the beast at a moments notice.

Too true! I remember hearing them at DCI Finals back in 1998, and if I remember right they were all the way on the OTHER side of the stadium playing to the fans taking their seats. They were LOUD. Like, from what would’ve been around 80 yards away? Blew my head open. I could not believe how an ensemble as small as they were could put out that kind of volume, and with such wonderful tone quality. When I marched in 2000, I think it was just before we went on for Finals, I met one of their contras holding their beautiful King K-90s while he admired our Dynasty 4V Super Magnum (in G of course). I asked if he’d like to trade, and he laughed and said sure but I’d (meaning little BAC me) get in trouble. Super nice dude.

Colonel Truman W. Crawford, who led the Yankee Rebels Drum and Bugle Corps of Baltimore, Maryland, to three American Legion National championships, was the commander and director of "The Commandant's Own". His picture hangs in this hall. He was my friend and my bugle instructor. May He Rest In Peace.

I think the keyboard feature (in place of the traditional piccolo feature) should have been given to a soprano bugle ... IMHO, because that's what we did with the Archer-Epler Musketeers ... RIP Bobby Carney ... /s/ USMC (Retired)

they use G bugles, and a G piccolo bugle does and was used few times by DCI corps. Probably hellishly difficult to play in tune.
@ThePMcDonald2 жыл бұрын
@@GuitarClassVideos We didn't use a piccolo soprano bugle w/Archer-Epler ... Bobby Carney played an "everyday" soprano bugle keyed in G on this feature ...

I saw them live in Fredericksburg, Va and a trio of soprano bugles triple tongued their way through what has been the piccolo solo. As a former trumpet player, it gave me goosebumps. In perfect unison.

The lyrics by John Phillips Sousa himself: First strain Let martial note in triumph float And liberty extend its mighty hand A flag appears 'mid thunderous cheers, The banner of the Western land. The emblem of the brave and true Its folds protect no tyrant crew; The red and white and starry blue Is freedom's shield and hope. Let eagle shriek from lofty peak The never-ending watchword of our land; Let summer breeze waft through the trees The echo of the chorus grand. Sing out for liberty and light, Sing out for freedom and the right. Sing out for Union and its might, O patriotic sons. Second strain 𝄆 Other nations may deem their flags the best And cheer them with fervid elation But the flag of the North and South and West Is the flag of flags, the flag of Freedom's nation. 𝄇 Trio Hurrah for the flag of the free! May it wave as our standard forever, The gem of the land and the sea, The banner of the right. Let tyrants remember the day When our fathers with mighty endeavor Proclaimed as they marched to the fray That by their might and by their right It waves forever. Grandioso Hurrah for the flag of the free. May it wave as our standard forever The gem of the land and the sea, The banner of the right. Let tyrants remember the day When our fathers with mighty endeavor Proclaimed as they marched to the fray, That by their might and by their right It waves forever.

As a former Army bandsman, I have always believed this group should be considered a Special band. Same musical greats but pay is different! These Marines are E-2 and up! Special bands ie President’s Own United States Marine Band, US Army Band, US Navy Band, etc start at E-6! Difference is education! But, these Marines are spectacular performers and their unique talent as Drum and Bugle musicians is a whole different breed of the other bands and should be paid for it! Also, Special bands have commissioned officers! Army bands at military installations have Warrant officers. NOTE: This group is led by commissioned officers!
