yea fr a lot of people just assume the marine corp is the army but more "elite" when its for a whole different purpose. its for naval and amphibious assaults. after the marines were disbanded after the revolution they came back as literal ship boarding parties to raid pirate ships. marines would still be doing that today if their were any ship to ship combat like the past.

The first time I saw my cousin in his blue dress uniform in 1971, when I was 17, it was at that moment I decided I would join the Marine Corps when I graduated high school. Unfortunately, when I went to the recruiting office, the recruiter was out. The Navy recruiting office was next door, so I stopped in for a visit. Before I knew what hit me, I was stepping off the bus at Navy boot camp in Orlando and, as they say, the rest is history. I was proud of my eight years in the Navy, but I always regretted not enlisting in the Marine Corps.

"The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Thank God for the United States Marine Corps!" -Eleanor Roosevelt "Marines I see as 2 breeds: Rottweilers or Dobermans; because Marines come in 2 varieties: big and mean, or skinny and mean. They're aggressive on the attack and tenacious on defense. They've got really short hair and they always go for the throat." -RAdm. "Jay" R. Stark, US Navy; 10 Nov 1995 "The American Marines have pride and benefit from it. They are tough, cocky, sure of themselves and their buddies. They can fight and they know it." -Gen Mark Clark "You cannot exaggerate about the Marines. They are convinced to the point of arrogance, that they are the most ferocious fighters on Earth. And the amusing thing about it...is that they are." -Father Kevin Keaney 1st Marine Division Chaplain Korean War "Freedom is not free. Oorah. Semper Fi! My title is Marine, but it is my choice and my choice alone to be a Special Operations Marine. I will never forget the tremendous sacrifice and reputation of those who came before me. At all ranges, my fire will be accurate. With surprise, speed and violence of action, I will hunt enemies of my country and bring chaos to their doorstep. I will keep my body strong, my mind sharp and my kit ready at all times. Raider and Recon men forged the path I follow. With determination, dependability and teamwork, I will uphold the honor and the legacy passed down to me. I will do the right thing always and will let my actions speak for me. As a quiet professional, I will not bring shame upon myself or those with whom I serve. Spiritus Invictus, an unconquerable spirit, will be my goal. I will never quit, I will never surrender, I will never fail. I will adapt to the situation. I will gain and maintain the initiative. I will always go a little farther and carry more than my share. On any battlefield, at any point of the compass, I will excel. I will set the example for all others to emulate. At the tip of the spear, I will teach and prepare others to seek out, dismantle and destroy our common enemies. I will fight side by side with my partners and will be the first in and last out of any mission. Conquering all obstacles of mind, body and spirit, the honor and pride of serving in Special Operations will be my driving force. I will remain always faithful to my brothers and always forward in my service.

My cousins son is in the marines right now. I remember when he was 15 we were on an amusement pier and just got off the roller coaster I went over to the ride that takes u up slowly and drops u right down. He wouldn't go on it with me cuz he was scared. When I got on the ride I sat next to a 7 year old girl and asked her if she was scared and she replied "no". Keep in mind this was after he was in a room telling me and his family how he wanted to join the marines after high school. And I asked him why. And he said he wanted to protect Me. There's one thing to be afraid and then overcome your fear. There's another to be afraid and to admit you're too afraid to over come it. Then there is a third to be afraid and not overcome it, and then join and somehow become a marine....maybe he overcame the fear through the training? I'm not sure.
