0311 ITB should be the new MCT- without the rocket portions of the POI. Other than that, USMC pogs are going to need more AND better provisional 0311 refresher training as part of FD 2030. Distributed, low signature, highly technical combined arms amphibious/ air assault/ motorized and limited SOF capable troops are going to need competent non-combat support. Different and higher standards now exist for combat support jobs in the form of the MSPS, which could be compared to the Australian RAR's Infantry PESA test. Even so, more provisional rifleman refresher training is needed. Convoy defense, Tower Defense, security patrols, hand and arm signals, tactical communications, first aid, naaic m240 knowledge, select designated marksmen, double the number of 09XX training instructor mos billets to each company, double the number of docs to each Marine Platoon (not triple) and request that the Navy establish a permanent Greenside NEC, ecp's, vcp's, combat marksmanship, fire team and squad defensive t&r tasks, intermediate swim qual, etc.

My reason for sharing this is to make a point of matter. In the 21 yesrs as a Grunt with trigger time I am very pleased to see this concept in play because back in the day we always had to struggle to increase the tactical training of our Marines. As a well retired Grunt (all 03 mci courses and badic school extension course) I wanted to be one the best 0369 in the Corps. As a Company Gunny my primary job was to "enforce discipline and train the company for battle". In away I see this as a "package deal " for Grunts and at 75yo and pt x3 a week since I retired in 1984. Never fu#k with a well trained Grunt who is trained to kill. In the army, combat arms includes infantry, artillery and tanks for example. In the Marines only infantry is considered combat arms. Everyone else is combat support. You could be a cannon cocker or in tanks and you would be combat support. I might be out of date but that was how it was years ago. This all sounds brilliant, but my question is then: why and who was in charge of USMC before when apparently training recent Marines and those currently deployed on the frontline to a continually minimalist baseline and lowest common denominator ?!? Huh? That said... USMC needs proper cutting edge defensive, self-protective and offensive equipment, ASAP. Period. Arguably more than anything! Just give it to Marines and they will adapt and find the optimal way to employ the equipment fluidly on the fly on the field. Reduce the mumbo jumbo and let the equipment dictate! e.g.., how is the anti-drone capabilities at the squad level and company level coming ? how is the offensive drone capability and cost-effective multi-round precision guided stand-off capability coming along at the squad and company level once on the ground ? How is their mass-deployed light mobility, maneuver coming? Those sorts of things, imho... Respects to USMC

How much has the training quality dropped? I'm alarmed at how they described previously trained Marines. Coming out of ITR,ITS,SOI,ITB or what ever they want to call it this month, a Marine should be trained to the quality that they can be inserted into a fire team and pretty much be good to go.

One question I have is how much PT and physical events do they have in this new course, as compared to the old 8 week ITB? I saw one of their videos on week 10 talking about how they did a new "infantry physical assessment test" where the Marines did a 200 meter green on green swim (wonder why it wasn't 500 meters?), 2 min max pull ups/ push ups/ sit ups, 1 mile timed boots utes run, a 10k ruck, obstacle course, and a 25 meter buddy drag. That's really not bad for entry level basic infantrymen! I'm just wondering about all the other days. If they make time in this new period of instruction for more PT, then more guys are gonna get broken off that maybe shouldn't be there, and more guys are gonna report to their first units in better shape. The other thing I wonder about this course is if (and hopefully when) are they going to start teaching commando training to Marines? If we're going to have to operate inside the enemy's weapon's engagement zone in distributed units that are smaller than what we used to operate in (fire teams, squads, and platoons instead of platoons and companies), when will we arm our Marines with that advanced knowledge? Units might find themselves not only living off the land and having to hide their signature, but without resupply and right under the enemy's nose. Not only is it going to be important to focus giving our Marines more training and to encourage them to act independently, but we also have to give them the ability to strike at the enemy. Maybe the Chinese will cut off an island that we put a platoon's worth of Marines on, and now they're going to have to find resupply and strike back at the enemy. Lining up the squad and conducting an assault might not work, the enemy knows we're there. I'm not necessarily saying we have to be like anyone else, but where is the commando training? Infiltration tactics, waterborne and heliborne operations, demolitions, etc. Make each Marine a force multiplier, and you make our Corps more lethal. We'll always have the infantry training to fall back on, plus it makes us more capable and efficient. Just get over your pride and make us Commando-Infantrymen like the Royal Marines.

its a 250 swim, plans to make it longer in the future i think aswell. Youd be surprised what isnt shown in the weekly videos
@cm-pr2ys3 жыл бұрын
@@nead6713 hey thanks for the response. So far they haven’t shown much detail in the videos and articles even though i wish they would break it down more. From what I see things look good but I just have a hunch that we could make things a bit harder to get more quality Marines where they need and want to be. I’m not saying we have to copy the Rangers for example, but I think it’s wise to pay attention to how difficult RASP is and why it’s so difficult for example. If you don’t mind sharing, what else do they have Marines doing in this new course?
@nead67133 жыл бұрын
@@cm-pr2ys Cant explain the whole coure in detail but Alot more critical thinking was brought into this new course for sure, taught what was needed and then guided and then eventually let go to plan and do what is needed. It was only the pilot so keep that in mind. They planned their own patrols, raids and so on and instructors would conduct debriefs. Overall each course will add and refine everything. Don't get me wrong this course was very physically and mentally taxing, many times I found myself literally just completely destroyed but kept going. Did over 98k in 4ish days with a good amount of weight, and on top of that had to still effectively operate and demonstrate everything I was taught. There was PT daily, if you got hurt you had to question if you wanna possibly get dropped or keep going and thats when alot of us started to get stronger both mentally and physically. But nonetheless this course was a good bases to going to these new units and you can get put in any section needed, mortars,jav, etc
