The intro talking about complaints at certain price points nails exactly how I feel. Basically roll the dice on cheaper stuff and deal with it or pay a premium and reserve the right to demand a certain degree of quality. Nice PSA X 👏

My threshold is $50 for knives, multitools, flashlights and other tools. Anything less than $50 I consider as a disposable and intended to get the job done. An example is the Milwaukee Fastback knife that retails for less than $20. The handle is made of plastic so I don't expect it to last long after serious use, but it's great for cutting boxes or opening packages.
@timtitus25329 ай бұрын
Regardless of the price, if something doesn't do what you expect of it, then you complain or don't. I have a knife. I spent $160.00 on a knife expecting to be able to deploy it easily. The front flipper was slick, which made deployment of the blade difficult. I took a dremel to it, and now it works...

I got a Petrified Fish and a Civivi mini Praxis off amazon for like thirty bucks each. The quality control is astounding. Even the packaging with the boxes, stickers, cases, and cleaning cloths....is just incredible for that price point. Sure, they are budget steels. But the fit and finish, blade centering, lock up, no play, razor sharp...everything is flawless. So I guess as you move up in price, there is ZERO room for error in any aspect of a knife, because the bar has been set so high at the bottom tiers already.

I think the complaining point for anything is generally determined by the competitive capabilities of less expensive options. Companies like Leatherman and Benchmade are starting to have really stiff competition in quality and capability, often at as low as 1/8th the cost. I understand that Made in America matters but to what point? I'm not going to pay north of $200 for a Benchmade folder when I can find comparable options between $40 and $80 in some other brand. North of $80 I'm going to start complaining.

You the man X I appreciate how you always keep it real. I’m about your age(35 no kids though) and have owned all the cool gadgets and super steels. Maybe bc I don’t have kids I have more disposable income but even then at the end of the day I found myself selling off most of them and rolling with a $40 swiss army knife that does 99% of everything I need it to and doesn’t really matter if I break or lose it lol

Is a good cup of coffee worth all the money you spent to make it?
@MarineX9 ай бұрын
It’s mainly about the long run. I was spending between 4-12 dollars a day on a local coffee shop. Between $1400-4000 a year. So this investment cost me $1900 two years ago. All I buy nowadays is $12 bags of coffee every three weeks or so.

Everytime I see you making your coffee with that scale it brings me back to my high school days. That being said, I really do enjoy expensive items as I’m sure we all do, I think I enjoy bitching about the price just as much as acquiring the new expensive items 😂

Lately, I’ve been on a budget EDC kick. I’m finding it difficult to justify spending $100+ on knives when there are so many good options in the $75 and under realm. I actually have little to complain about with my recent purchases. I’m also interested in seeing your coffee setup. My wife recently bought her own espresso machine. Personally, I don’t drink coffee. But seeing your setup, I might find an accessory that would improve her experience. Pound sand.

I think for everyone, the price threshold for complaining will be different. Everyone has a different perception of what they value as quality and quality for the money. Regardless, definitely something to think about. These coffee sessions are pretty good. Keep up the great work! Pound sand

I'd probably say my personal limit is around 80-100. For a pocket knife with a blade that is only around 3 inches I expect the handle and bearings to be a premium quality

I would say for knifes, $150 I would complain. I should say I’ve never spent $100 on a knife before, but from what I’ve seen of other knife collectors, it seems like a fair price. Multi tools, the average full size tool seems to be around $100 so I’d say like $125-$150.

@Ajaxykins9 ай бұрын
Pocket knife complaining point for me is above $150, for fixed blades its about $120 for a small one and $200 for a big fixed blade. This is also dependent on materials like steel (say like throw an extra $50+ on the complain price point for magnacut or cruwear), stag handles (where getting the juuuust right piece of stag is hard and the natural material I excuse with some wiggle room), etc. Folding knives IMO is pretty hard because of the variety of blade steel, HT quality, handle material, and lock mechanism. Cold Steel's triadlock for example, if I could get a more traditional looking handle material AND a triadlock? I'd expect to pay some good money and thus that threshold would be higher. I think folding knife categories need to be taken into account ie. hard vs light duty Go ahead and pound sand! Personally as the years have gone my bar for coffee got lower and lower as its become more utilitarian, I may use a french press now and then still but its all about the instant stuff now lol

Someone should make a Breach multi tool. Fence cutters, window breaker, pry bar, door knob bypass (hook) and detachable pick set (for legal purposes). Boy a man could only dream, like if leatherman made a bolt cutter.

I think with all the Clones out now, leatherman has things we can complain about. Leatherman definitely has better made products compared to the knock offs which makes sense with how much they cost, But the flat bit kit that they have is just….too inefficient. I wish they would take from the knock offs and have more universal hex bit capabilities. Plus the flat bits don’t hold up for very long and having to continuously rebuy the set to get one bit is also very frustrating. I still love leatherman and you can find the wave for as low as $80 if you look around. So I don’t see the reason to buy a clone for $40-$60 when you spend a little more for something you can trust. The clones that are $30 or less on the other hand are a good idea for people who don’t know if they even want or will use a multitool in their everyday life. The micra being $50 is just not worth the price anymore when you have the dime for 20-25 and nextool multi tools for around 20. Even the Powerpint is $40 right now.
@MrWhatsHappenin9 ай бұрын
This is hard, becuase I personally feel the the point for folding knives is (given the saturation of the budget category) should be around $180-$200. At this point you're getting premium steel, typically better warranty, maybe US made or premium Chinese production, so they should have their shit together. But I'm a hypocrite and just bought a Benchmade Anthem...talk about butterfly tax.

Yeah i totally agree is the 300 dollar knife really worth it over a 100 dollar knife. Only thing is materials because i can do everything the next man can do with a 60 to 100 dollar knife. What keeps the market high is the people that just have to get the newest thing no matter the cost. Right its neat but does not make it the better knife except steel. I cant justify why I need a titanium handle which us cool and nice but is it worth shelling out that extra money when you dont use it much unless your job requires. I dont know really but a folder above 150 becomes a want rather then a need. Nicely done video

It’s absolutely fair to complain if you paid for all the stuff that makes it more so exclusive, but if you can get it with something cheaper than that is bs, the only knives I feel like I’ve bought that are worth it are my esee’s or spyderco’s 👍🏼
@mmccoyster9 ай бұрын
Great video. You're keeping us honest by challenging us to take stock if how we feel about shit. For me I've got to look at it as value based, which is not necessarily priced based. I can buy a $60 beater and it might perform better that some $150-$200 knives out there, if so i feel i can bitch about the expensive knife. The same applies for anything, flashlights, pouches, multitools. That's just my opinion. On another note i don't know what the"pound sand" thing is, but if you like it, pound it.😂😂😂

The lt Wright bandit is a good edc fixed blade . And the Swiss spirit x is a deal for the quality . And I feel you if I buy a cheap item I'm gonna talk shit I'm gonna talk even more shit if I buy a Leatherman arc and it breaks on the first heavy use task fuck that .
@Rickmon019 ай бұрын
Pound sand. Also I have a fairly high threshold for complaining about knives these days. Mostly because of the fact that with regulations placed on manufacturing, the ever increasing cost of materials and especially skilled labor things are getting more expensive. Inflation also doesn't help at all, a knife that used to cost 50 some years ago is now around 80-90. It all depends really. I just base it off of the companies reputation and only usually complain if its something subpar compared to what the companies reputation would lead you to expect.

$200 is about my limit for a fixed blade but it has to be something really nice and something I really want I just got a ferrum forge Anna Bradford guardian 3.2. hundred dollars for a folding knife to me would be the complaining point anything under that you expect decent but not spectacular in my opinion
@gstyle54829 ай бұрын
I don’t know?….if you pay $1 or $100 dollars for a product or service, you as a consumer can complain all you like. It’s your hard earned money, and you are helping that said business to thrive. Not saying I, personally would complain about something that cost a $1, because I believe in…..”buy once, cry once”….but some people do not have the luxury of being able to do that, so I’m just looking at it from another perspective. Whether you make a lot of money, or a little,….it’s all hard earned I guess. Great topic though.

Pound Sand. As with everything, there's that law of diminishing returns. Yes, you can get a blade for ridiculous amounts of money, but what are you getting for that extra cash? Most likely, you're paying for craftsmenship and a hint of exclusivity. Im perfectly fine with using budget blades for my everyday use. But if im paying a bit more for a more premium product, i expect it to have some better quality control than a Wal Mart blade. At the end of the day, the most important thing a knife can do is cut. If i have a hard time cutting with a premium custom knife, when my cheap knife does the job just as well, if not better? Of course im going to complain.
