One of my chief "complaints" about most EDC content is it is "Look at this stupid expensive thing company X sent me for free. But you NEED to buy it." without any "This is why X item should be part of your EDC." I don't need 57 wallets. I don't need 14 watches. Although I do own an obscene variety of pocket knives..... But I'm looking for stuff that isn't obvious. Things that improve my quality of life that I may not have considered.

How true ! I've made the comment on $800 knife vids that my Grandfather lived 80 years and did everything with a two blade Barlow knife and an unspectacular hunting knife.😀👍

And there are a bunch of channels showing the same items over and over and over again. Thats what gets me tired watching videos about edc, i almost skip through every video just watching the part i where new stuff can be seen,.

I feel a lot of the videos the bigger more comercial feeling channels are just them clocking in and out of work. There’s only 12 months in a year. How are you testing a wallet or a flashlight for a month, more than 12 times a year. You can say maybe they’re using them at the same time. Okay, but that’s not what most normal people would do and that’s not an accurate test if you’re not using it like a regular person would or even more than they would. It’s just product pushing to pay the bills and get free stuff. It’s really telling when the only channels complaining about products or a company are the channels that don’t get free stuff and have to purchase the product

Hit the nail on the head X! This is why I really enjoyed the “Zac in the Wild” content back when Zac was making videos and talking to real people at these conventions/events and coming up with these wacky gear testing trials, “What’s in your pockets?” segments, etc... Creative, innovative, personal content seems to be the key in all this. Good shit as always brother keep it up!

Totally agree. Just show me the product and how you can use it. Manufacturers give you a handful of mediocre pictures for a bag. I want to see how it can be loaded and used. Also agree with the pocket trash kings needing to be dethroned. Your $1000 full titanium knife is cool, but show me that beat that you've had for years and is still rocking out doing actual work. Show me those bags that have survived getting beaten day in and day out. Run that grape sir.

You've touched on a lot of the reasons I've started to slow down on consuming EDC content. I like videos that show new gear, that is useful, that I could fit into my own life. A lot of times, the videos are pretty, and the gear is nice, but there's no meat on the bones.

I was always into EDC but I never knew or realized it was a kind of niche or it had a whole term. I just carried my favorite trinkets with me, like multi tools, pocket knives, bottle openers. Around peak 2020 I just became obsessed consuming EDC content. I dont really buy a ton but just seeing the cool (out of budget) tools bags pouches etc that are out there is just pretty cool. This channel is cool because you show items within my budget and do good comparisons.

Have to say I have been enjoying your "EDC Cup" videos. I must be honest I did subscribe previously to your channel, however, as of today I don't subscribe to any "EDC Creators". Your channel is one that I do come back and visit from time to time, because of videos like these. My time with KZbin stems back to when I voraciously lapped up every video from Nutnfancy. I tried gear that he touted, and quite often thought differently of his opnion on the products. That cycle has repeated over the years with other creators. Today, I have gone back to products that I enjoy carrying, but are not even a thought in today's EDC creators. I have also gone away from folding knives as well because I also feel fixed blades are now in a size range where I don't feel like I am carrying a Rambo sized knife, and also many of these folding knife companies (foreign and domestic) have lost their damn minds with some of their pricing. In my opinion if I am going to bust out with $300-500 for one knife, well that should include fellatio in the price.

I think you have your head on straight and are taking a very well ballanced and objective view of the landscape. Your channel included! I enjoy the live streams and i enjoy the videos on edc where use case scenarios are explained along with the gear to give us an idea of how we could or should implement that gear in our lives. That adds value in my book, sir. For context i like nutnfancy's formats (even though they drag on a bit sometimes) but your personality and charisma are the other side of the coin that keeps us engaged.

Loved this video X. You hit on all the reasons I have stopped consuming most EDC content: it’s mostly the same. The only videos I have enjoyed are EDCs from tiny channels (or searching ‘2008/2009 EDC) because it’s someone who is sharing exactly what they use for their needs, not a bunch of fancy tools that look good in photos. Keep up the great work bro.

Content creators need to get off their asses and or using the gear they're pushing. Gideon does a great job on that. The Knife Doctor also. I'm getting tired and worse, bored, with the same old things. Everyone doing the unboxing, first look, deep review of all the same knives. Keep it real X and think hard on where EDC goes from here cause it's gasping for air. This was a great perspective on things and i believe you have a direction that will keep us running in . Peace Brother.

I have a Facebook page and a instagram page with real world reviews but that is why I want to start a channel from a everyday working man who actually uses his gear and who actually has the go bags in the truck and the war bag actually gets carried, and from a person who has bought everyone of his items. I will be 100% honest about each and every item and will be unapologetic about it. I have been finding that I end up watching the channels with less followers doing their videos on their phones and the production quality is lower but I am finding the content is a lot better than the well known channels. The feel I get is that they are just doing it for fun and to share there stuff with others, and not looking to make money and score free stuff. I always try to keep my vids like that and have no goals for the channel. It is just a fun side hobby that keeps me thinking about my main hobbies.

I'm personally tired of $200+ knives and $300+ bags. Sure they are cool but the value isn't there for me. I think a lot of other people would agree as the cost of everything is going up and fewer people have the bucks to dole out for a Grimsmo Norseman or a Mystery Ranch pack. I could go the rest of my life and never see another Spyderco or Glock vid. 😝

I'll have to agree with you. I jump into the live streams and that's fun, but you notice 80% of the people watching are other content creators or makers!😂 if that doesn't tell you it's on life support I'm not sure what dose. I've found myself actually watching military peoples kits and load outs recently.. because they actually used the stuff. Watching "first looks" on knives is my least watched thing, so boring!😅 Appreciate the content and look forward to the new direction brother! 🙌🍻

I know for myself for example, I havent been in an office since 2020. Because of the pandemic, ALOT of people started working remotely more and more. I think with more and more of those who became work at home people, theres no need to carry any more. I know thats the fact for me. I have a drawer of knives and flashlights that I now only carry maybe on the weekend. I dont get the use and rotation in any more and I cant justify buying all the new models or whatever that come out.

As someone born in the 90s it was painfully obvious that many my own age and younger are painfully lacking in basic life skills. A more balanced approach to improving and expanding basic skills sets would be a breath of fresh air to EDC. Like outdoors55 sharpening videos, or the first aid videos other channels put out are much needed.

I haven't unsubbed anyone yet, but definitely don't watch nearly as much. I have grown tired of basic reviews about gear that has never really been used and generally is far to expensive. Quality cost and I do appreciate Quality items. But i dont want to spend $500 plus on a knife from a review when it looks like its never been used and i dont want fancy metals that look "pretty". Especially when im going to be using it standing in a field in rain, snow, mud and all. My favorite knives have horns or wood for their handles and honestly my "work" blades have grip tape or bicycle handle bar tape on their handles. Why because it is easy to hold in bad conditions and easy / cheap to replace when it needs to be. 🤷‍♂️ yes all fixed blades. Video's need something to draw in people. Content like yours where thers atmosphere and a discussion great!! Or show the specific item in use. Once i feel like im watching a commercial i stop watching 🤷‍♂️ and its just background noise. I do like this format and have been enjoying your videos. Thank you!! Cheers, beers and whiskey 🤠 🥃

EDC is dead because EDC content creators made everything EDC. This lead to hundreds of useless items to being considered EDC and lead to thousands of new so called EDC content creators really just watering down EDC. Moreover, the content lacked a solid explanation of why they carried an item or why someone should carry an item. As a former SOF guy, EDC is supposed to be very basic, tailored to an environment, and an item must have use, purpose, and some type of regular use vs once in a while or I might need it so I carry it.
