I imagine there are a lot of people who recognize the Season 1 Pokémon theme simply because of how big a sensation it was in the 90s and how it tunnelled its way into the conventional cartoon canon in a way that Neon Genesis Evangelion with Cruel Angel's Thesis could simply not.
