This game is really only easy if you let it be easy. Too boring going through top-hat tower? Try doing it without a frog. Mechabroodal fight feeling too easy? Get out of that Pokio dude. Don’t like waiting for topper or Harriet to go through their in-between phases? Knock them out of their hat, you can do that. That’s what I love about this game: At the end of the day, the difficulty is up to you. To this day, I, as well as the rest of the community, keep finding out new ways to use Cappy and Mario’s other unique moves to do things faster, and they always take a lot of practice to learn. So next time you play this game, don’t take the easy way out if you know you’re capable of doing it a harder way, that’s basically the same as just admitting defeat.

I loved Super Mario Odyssey when it was released; however, over time, I began to notice its flaws more and more. Today, I would rank *Odyssey* in fourth place, alongside 3D World + Bowser's Fury, and with Super Mario Galaxy 2, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Mario 64 taking the lead. Now, I'd like to share my perspective on why it's not as high on my list. Firstly, its biggest flaw, in my opinion, is the excessive number of Power Moons. There seem to be around 10 Moons in every corner, easily obtained through ground pounding capturing or other little effort, with most lacking any real challenge. You can acquire 90% of the moons in less than a minute. In contrast, *Super Mario Galaxy* offered unique challenges with each Star, diverse environments, and captivating gameplay. With only a handful of Stars in each Galaxy, you completed it before it became monotonous. However, after collecting 50+ Moons in every Kingdom in *Odyssey*, the repetition became tiresome. While there are some more challenging Moons hidden behind Pipes or Doors, most environments feel artificial and lackluster, with the music becoming repetitive quickly. Another issue with the Kingdoms is their flat appearance. As they aimed for more realistic environments like New Donk City or the Sand Kingdom, there were fewer significant platforming areas. For instance, Tostarena Town and New Donk City lack depth in their Plattforming areas. Moreover, the Capture mechanic isn't as enjoyable in my opinion and can't replace traditional Mario items. Captures often feel like downgrades, restricting movement and only being necessary for specific events. Additionally, the lack of compelling bosses in Super Mario Odyssey is disappointing. Besides the Broodals, which I don't consider true bosses, there are only seven original bosses plus the final Bowser fight. While Super Mario Galaxy games felt like grand adventures, Odyssey feels more like a repetitive collection task, akin to gathering all 900 Korok Seeds in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. However some things i really like about odyssey are its graphics and movement. Even though you can cheese through many passages with the cappy mechanic

You have good points!! But there some (in my opinion) that I just can’t click, with the kingdoms you mentioned, I think they were design in a more open mind with few platforming, like to really explore the town and interact with it’s citizens, etc.. I think the capture mechanic is still enjoyable to me, as it allows with more variety in the gameplay and also to really feel you’re that enemy, that’s why the limited movement!! But it’s just my opinion, I just love odyssey so much :3

Ugh... Its like Breath of the Wild all over again. Just because its DIFFERENT from the older games, they suddenly call it a bad game. Its so stupid. I enjoyed Mario Odyssey more than any other 3D Mario game, even Galaxy (and I grew up with Galaxy and have a lot of nostalgia for it). In terms of gameplay, Mario Odyssey blows every past game out of the water. Its no contest. I don't care if there's literally a moon in a trash can. That doesn't make it any less satisfying to collect it!

Rubbish. I can complete BOTW with all 120 shrines and Champions Ballad shrines, beat the Trial Of The Sword and all divine beasts beat and still go on to defeat Ganon. But what I’m not prepared to do is get all 900 Korok seeds. I just get enough to fill out all my inventory slots.

While Mario Odyssey isn’t a bad game, it is a pretty hard game to come back to because they added way to many moons to get in this game which gets pretty exhausting after a while, especially when some of the moons are put in some of the most throwaway spots possible. I definitely prefer the big 3 that came before (64, Sunshine, and Galaxy) because they’re much easier to replay in my opinion (mostly 64 and galaxy).

I don’t hate odyssey but it’s definitely not my favorite. I dislike how many moons there are, it makes finding a moon uninteresting and not rewarding. I dislike how disconnected some platforming sections feel from some of the worlds. Some of the worlds were uninspired and too short. And then some worlds just felt too big for their own good. I just think Nintendo hit the jackpot with linearity vs open world with sunshine and galaxy. I would 100% out odyssey over 3d world without a doubt though.

Let me start by saying, Super Mario Odyssey is a great game. But, it's not my favorite, because I don't enjoy 3D Mario games. The exceptions are 3D World and 3D Land (and to a lesser extent Bowser's Fury). Those, to me, feel more like "Mario games". I want levels and worlds. I like Bowser's Fury because it's more 3D World, but with more cats.

My only fault with Odyssey was there werent more towns/cities/villages within each kingdom, since logically a entire country cannot logically be built off a single town. In the cascade kingdom's case it could be explained somewhat but at the same time since it was supposed to be a nod to Dinosaur Land it would have been nice to see other islands within the Cascade Kingdom reflecting the different areas.

I suppose a bad Mario game is still better than most other games, but I never want to play Odyssey again. The over-abundance of the moons took away their feeling of achievement in finding them and shortened the main game. Cappy was a terrible gimmick, that other games had done better, because it was so limited in function... other power-up in the series have always expanded what you could do in the game but Cappy only ever gave one benefit to Mario at a time at the expense of everything else. The levels were wildly inconsistent in size and quality. The post game was repetitive garbage.

I loved this game. My only problem with it is there wasn’t as much platforming. When there was platforming, it was pretty simple, until the very end of the game. Odyssey is more of an exploration game, which is fun, but I wish the two were more balanced.

Odyssey is in my top 5 favourite games of all time but I think almost all of my issues with it come down to the fact that it doesnt feel like an epic adventure and at times feels rather mundane - especially when compared to the galaxy games. The combination of jumping through all these different worls while feeling like Im part of some grand adventure, even if in reality we're just saving Peach for the Umpteenth time, is when Mario games are at their peak for me. The galaxy games did an incredible job of it, as each star felt like its own mision with an incredible soundtrack that made said mission feel epic as well as a side story that was to many the emotional core of the game. Odyssey, while it does have its moments, felt like a huge downgrade in that department, the music was toned down and felt a lot more down to earth compared to all the prior 3D Mario games and the mission felt a lot more like doing errands than embarking on a mini adventure most of the time (though due to how good the games movement is, Ill concede that these are still incredibly fun, and are amazing to speedrun), a lack of hub world also doesnt help with this either as it feels like Marios just going from one place to the next without much connecting thrm together

As someone who has 100% Mario Odyssey i have got to say it was a chore to do. I couldn't stand going back to Mario Odyssey to get the rest of those moon let alone totally REPLAY the game. I go back and play Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, mario 64 and the 2d mario games quite alot. I loved Mario Odyssey the first time around, but i cant go back and play it personally.

I loved odyssey, but I sort of see how people could think this way. I never liked the game as much as the Galaxy Games, and honestly despite how good the game is I've never found myself wanting to go back to it, as you sort of experience all the game has to offer in one playthrough, and especially by the end the moons got a little repetitive. Still, I wouldn't go as far as to say it's a bad game, but when you consider how hyped it was, I sort of see how people could think it didn't meet their expectations. Personally though, I think it was great, even if it had its flaws, but when compared to the launch alongside BOTW and the Galaxy Games that came before it, it lost a lot of its novelty over time.

Mario odyssey is probably to be likely my favourite 3D Mario game with Sunshine as a close second, I just love the smooth looser controls and exploring in there respected worlds. Not to say the Galaxy games aren’t great (especially graphically) i think people just complain for what Super Mario Odyssey isn’t rather than what it is but when I replayed it while being hard to get into it finally clicked with me and I got every moon and purple coin!

Some parts of Odyssey I found are ridiculously difficult, tedious and/or frustrating to the point where I only had fun doing the main storyline and leaving out most of the moons. One of the bosses you have to defeat with the standard 3 segment health bar when a 6 segment one would’ve made it just that bit easier, and if you died you’re sent back to the flag checkpoint which is quite a way from the battle. I never even completed the absolute final level of the game, my patience just wasn’t up to it.

i think some people are just too blinded by nostalgia. its not my favorite mario game but its nowhere near bad. i tried thinking of reasons why i dont like it as much as others, but aside from how loose the progression is and how many of the same moons exist, there's not much else. its just not as memorable to me as galaxy or sunshine. if i was to go back and play it again, maybe i would say something different, but ive felt this way about it for a good while

To be honest, I both love mario odyssey and think it's meh. For example, the main story is really, really good, but the end game 100% is just tedious and annoying. For me, being able to 100% a game without it feeling tired of it is what gives it a 5 star. Odyssey could have placed less moons and instead focused on making them better, instead of placing some of them at places where you need to litteraly just ground pound. (not talking about darker side of the moon, i count that as main story, im talking about getting all the moons for the complete 100%)

Although I don't believe it's a bad video game, I can acknowledge that there are alot of aspects about the game that deserves the criticism its getting. From what I've seen there's plenty of really old videos (like 5 to 6 years old) that go over why in great detail. The most popular one being "Super Mario Odyssey - It's No Masterpiece" by Joesph Anderson. Anyway, although there are people out there that just hate for the sake of hating, many actually bring up valid points. It's sort of becoming a trend in its self for people who love a game to become very defensive towards others, who come out saying that they don't quite enjoy it or hold the same amount of appreciation towards that product even if a good amount of time has past. Sort of like toxic positivity, where your not willing to accept that a game you like could have any significant flaws, and people who point it out are unreasonable and wrong for doing so.

Mario Odyssey is a bit more tricky to 100% it due to the more than 800 distinct moons and, while not needed, it's still an odd case of ranting about a game that was omega hyped back then. While it still is a great game from start to beating it, I didn't get attached to it (didn't prevent me from at least beating Darker side)
