At 37:07 actually there is a very strong case of having the ability to set manual slice points. Playing slices live MPC style. Also having them in one track and using the same filter, env, etc. right now I’m copying sounds between tracks and set different start points. But if you tweak a track you need to tweak all

thanks Elekton for this awsome update ... but the next frontier is the ability to manage external disk through the USB port... the new functionality are very loop oriented... but loops need more than the 1Gb limit!!! just think about MPC Live, and its no limit file storage with its SSD (2Tb is a no limit storage for me! ;) )

I just want to toss out 2 feature requests before I forget them, in hopes someone reading this agrees and sends them to the right ppl (I'll figure out how to properly request features after this): 1) can y'all move the bit rate reduction knob off the slice source page and just put a start point knob in its place? surely that would satisfy the folks that want to move the slice points, w less processing power, even of you have to recalculate the zero crossings (or ignore them?) and 2) can I get a negative attack value? where the sample triggers before the pattern start by playing a mirror reverse of the start of the sample as a lead up?

Super update and loopcloud connection is exellent but the problem is now the storage of the device. When you begin to work with loops... It take a lot more space. the mono maybe also a serious issue. However a big step for this device.

If you work with short loops and edit them to be mono 16-bit 48kHz before you import to the machine, you'll get loads in there. Use it as a drum machine/glitch box and you'll be happy. Use it as an all-in-one groovebox and you'll be happy but encounter more issues.

I have been grabbing a loop off sequenced modular riffs & beat loops from a Korg EMX1 electribe. Then animating those source loops with various bpm synced lfo modulations. I have found by about the 3rd time of re-sampling my loops, & initially finding out what I can modulate with the x2 lfos each time I've re-sampled it again... Then slicing or getting more crazy using werp, is giving me far more satisfying & unique results. I may only use the werp machine once in the first 3 times I'm experimenting with lfo mods, & re-sampling results of that process... I like to add some lfo modulation to the pitch tunings of werp in use as a machine. But it's good to capture bpm sync lfo modulations by looping using one-shot on the first couple of re-sampling takes... Bpm sync lfos, & re-sampling features in any good phrase-loop sampler. Is a beautiful thing to explore & master some skills from. I've still got the Ensoniq ASR-X Pro from back in that period, we had powerful pro samplers, but no DAWs yet... So things especially in the 5yrs between 1995-2000, could be done in many ways better by learning to phrase/loop sampling tricks. If u purchased a good sampler with at least 32meg of ram... It was then more possible to use a 8 or 16 multi timbral sampler, to trigger enough 2,4,8 & maybe a 16 bar stereo samples for more looping... Making dance tracks got easier tho for many more to take less thought in producing it. But creative minds found & began to pioneer the new ways of using samplers to use & manipulate enough tracks, of more loops... People are worried that the Digitakt's 64meg limit of sample memory per project, is going to be a issue for things, with new machines aimed at making more from loop sampling now too... But 64meg is actually fine to get plenty of loops from... That was enough ram in the 90's to be sampling your midi systems of synths & sequencers etc... & any outboard fx or processors on top of that. Could be sampled from the mixer to capture enough 4-8bar loops in stereo, We did it to avoid pushing midi sequencers to hard to be reliable for tight timing, & recalling CC's etc of multi track sequencer arrangements... & also to free up any outboard fx etc too at the time. We could use phrase/loop sampling as a early method for tracking digital audio. There are more examples of producers doing a lot with features developing in samplers of that 5yr period... Slicing & timestretching became a standard feature, so more of it came of that. Re-sampling was a art mastered by acts like the Orb, Orbital, FSOL & The Chemical Brothers are still of the best who know when to blend re-sampling skills for sounds & loops, & slicing breaks or timestretching the perfect thing between a tempo changing break down of their arrangements etc. Well, that will be enough of my loopyness for now... Praise to the phrase I say???

Knowing that you can have multiple machines on the same track, I wonder what would happen if you used Control-All on something that isn’t in those machines. Like, if your track default is the original machine, and then you use a machine on one step that doesn’t feature sample locking or sample start, would those changes still effect the second machine.

I've tried using loops with Digitakt before but found it was impossible to mute them because the muting only works on the next trigger of the sound, as opposed to a currently-playing sound. Can you now mute a sound that's already playing?

I don't have a digitakt, ive got a syntakt, but could you set a trigger where you want the sample to cut? Then on that 'cutoff trigger' set the volume to zero so it will retrigger the sample but the volume would be at zero. Just an idea. And make it conditional if you only want it to cut part of the time.

I missed the stream so couldn't ask this then (and I'm still watching the playback so maybe it is covered later) but do you know why when you do Linear or Random locks it will modify the slice number parameter but when you enter slices using the chromatic keyboard it uses the trig note number to change slices? I would think that Linear/Random locks would still use the Trig Note method of changing. It's two ways of accomplishing the same thing but strange that the automatic mode doesn't use the same as user enter.

Can you import something into werp, timestretch it and THEN slice it with the slice machine? I guess you’d export the sample after timestretching with werp and then load it on a new track with slice machine?

Ok now just let us upload a sample directly from "samples" to a track. The biggest downfall of these boxes. Why is there an extra step? You could do it on samples and cycles, so idk why upgrading to digitakt/symtakt makes life harder.

I think the pitch shifting & time stretching hacks that already existed for Digitakt are far more interesting than this… but that’s just me. I thought they would have formalised that feature here. Having said that, anything extra is appreciated.

I'm with E-Com here. I was initially excited when I saw the new 'machines' tutorial and comments about it on Elektrons KZbin channel. However after a couple of days playing with the machines I'm a little underwhelmed by them and can't see myself using them much. I've found the ability to set a record length in steps when sampling internally or from an externally synched sound source a much more useful addition. My most appreciated update though is the fact that they have added a play head indicator over the keys when in chromatic/scale mode. It really helps me when recording and overdubbing melodies. I think it's a great update overall but for different reasons than most commenters.☺️

Wait so Mario messed up the basic application of the new OS: fail to playback in time an internally quantized recording 😅 Mario was a bit lost overall, would be great to see some improvements in the slice machine to allow for setting up the slices manually. Loopcloud sucks, we’d prefer an official way to do benefit from the same fluent export. E.g. as a dedicated VST to be able to build up the similar upload per track with timestretch machine from our own samples inside our DAWs 😊 Otherwise, that’s a dope update! We also need more step based length measurements in Octatrack!

Surprised at that, i think they sound dark, my mpc 1000 sounds far better and the bit crush is a lot better to my ears on the 1000 the bit crush on the digi is horrendous sounding, but the digi is a workhorse, i love it for its functions but for sound its not the best, same with octa its my biggest disappointment on the elektron machines of new they have no natural character

Yeah when it's overdone it can sound bad, like some of the examples in the stream. But a bit of it, adds some nice crunch to my ear.

I agree. Bit reduction is sometimes useful but to my ears sample rate reduction sounds mostly awful. I would have much preferred an additional overdrive/distortion to stack with the existing overdrive as the existing overdrive alone is often too subtle for my taste.

Yeah overbridge is awesome. That is currently how I'm adding extra effects to separate tracks. Only caveat with this though is I can't p-lock these effects easily and I often like to play digitakt standalone or with a couple of hardware synths. I'd love if they added more/nastier distortion onboard at some point.

Isn't the Repitch machine "just" a subset of features of "Werp" though? The former adjusts the pitch based on BPM, while the latter keeps the sample at pitch while stretching it - but you can just simply adjust the tuning parameter in Werp and you achieve the same results, no? Maybe I'm overlooking something obvious...

Excellent! My favorite sampler now just got my even more favorite sampler! Now what we need is a digitakt v2 with infinite sampling length (instead of 30 secs) and more internal memory haha

Why did that second slice sample not hit the zero points? Mine also misses them and it's a bit of a shame you can't move the slice point like you can on the 404mk2
