Mario Galaxy E3 2006 beta - changes vs final game in comments!

Differences are way too many to list but: - Music is sequenced, the "Star Get" song also being completely different (instead being a remix of the Castle Clear jingle from SMB1) - Cursor is yellow and you need to hold down B to turn on an outer circle to collect starbits (in the E3 2006 prototype, they're called star shards instead). Blue stars and those web sling shots are also grabbed with B in the proto, while it's A in the final. - Mario's voice clips are recycled from older games, though some of those soundclips were also never ended up in those older games either. Old Mario voice clips like the "weee" do appear in the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection trailer. Final game uses completely different voice clips. - Automatic large textboxes don't exist in the final game. - Star Toads also don't exist in the final game. - The level consists of a mash up of Star World (not playable in the final game), Good Egg Galaxy and Space Junk Galaxy. There's also multiple exits, while the final game prefers to only have one linear route per star. - Mario can infinitely spin without needing to recharge, unlike the final game. He can also pick up coins while spinning, which was removed from the final game (mostly, the Red Star powerup still lets you do this) because Shigeru Miyamoto wanted players to always run into the coins instead. - 8 pie pieces as life counter instead of 3. The HUD in general is very different. - Coin noises do not play through the wii remote in the final game, only star bits do, this is why depression exists. - The octopus tennis battle doesn't have tennis sounds in the final game and you can't remove the firerock projectiles by using the cursor either. I've noticed this a lot lately, are there any reasons a lot of videos, not just yours, don't show the transition that takes the game from the "Thanks for playing!" screen back to the title screen? Some people like to document those versions of the game, but that's always the part that ends up as lost media. xD

The changes are numerous. Different level layout and planets, different mario voice lines, toads instead of lumas, music is a sequenced track rather than the final orchestra. Really nice to see more footage of this demo getting shown!

Now THIS is true dedication to archiving footage, You have done so much to archive footage that would have been lost to time if it wasn't for your work! I know I commented about you possibly releasing footage of the ECTS events, but recently a 2+ hour long video has been uploaded from the event coming from a German magazine VHS tape. I was able to find what I wanted lol.

I like the fire flower on the house and that spinning collects coins but I am glad they changed the pointer to not leave a trail on the screen

This demo has a TON of differences to this final game. This comment may be all over the place so keep that in mind. The ENTIRE stage shown here doesn't exist in the final game. Only sections from it were repurposed for other levels. Most of the planet models were also left in the game too, aswell as the text entries for all of the NPCs. Not the text itself though. This demo also has a limit of 100 Starbits you can collect it seems, which has been rumored to give you a Power Star after collecting 100 of them. There is no footage of this though. Lots of the controls were changed aswell. Such as picking up starbits requiring you to hold the B button. You also have 8 slices of health here instead of the 3 you get in the final game. When travelling through launch stars, you can hear some special sounds play as Mario is flying through space. The sign models are from Super Mario Sunshine. There's lots of graphical differences too like the crates being much darker, the Toads having star shapes on their heads and the skybox being much darker. There's also a ton of differences in the audio to find aswell. The music sounds different, Mario uses different sound effects, the Power Star Get theme is completely different too. I could go on and on about the differences this demo has but yeah there's a ton of things they changed here. I really hope one day this demo gets rediscovered since all we have from it really is footage and the leftover planet models. Thanks for uploading this footage though!
