Can I ask, what’s so special about og re4? Is it just nostalgia? Cause I liked the game but I didn’t think it was one of the greatest games of all time you know
@BadAssMacmillanАй бұрын
@@quasiKB It’s not nostalgia. I will try my best to explain why I think OG RE4 is so special, I don’t think I can convince you but maybe you will get a better understanding of why the game is still so highly regarded by players and critics even if you don’t agree (which is totally fine). If you really break it down, all Leon can do is stand still and point and shoot; and that simplicity is part of how it immediately gets you into this mode of consciously analyzing situations and being intentional about everything you do. Corralling enemies into a single spot and headshot-ing one of them to set the whole group up for a juicy roundhouse kick seems so basic, but having to actively look for ways to achieve that scenario never stops being engaging. The shooting feels psychologically satisfying. It was as if Shinji Mikami and his team decided to start making a game just based on the idea of making shooting as satisfying and fun as possible. And damn, how they succeeded. Everything from the laser reticle, to reload animations, enemy hit reactions, poping sound of a headshot, even the intensity and moments of time at which the gamepad vibrates. OG RE4 takes a pretty basic combat loop of directional body damage/3D aiming and melee system, and then pushes it to the absolute limit by having so many diverse encounters and enemy types. Moving platforms, armored enemies, tight corridors, open areas. The game never stops throwing new things at you throughout the whole 15-20 hours, It's almost nintendo-like in that it feels like it tries to squeeze everything out of its simple mechanics, constantly surprises you and never seems to repeat itself. Every battle feels like a scenario that has been planned out meticulously, the way the enemies seem to hem you in and force you on the back foot, the way the environments are used to create a unique encounter each time. It perfectly utilizes each combat arena with specific gimmicks and creative hazards. The game is so good at creating this environment for player freedom and experimentation, while also making the enemies capable enough to push new combat experiences through their varied actions. It's designed in such a way that you could probably watch twenty people play one part and see it play out almost twenty different ways. What’s impressive is that all of this is done with the same simple mechanics that you had since chapter 1. And beyond that, the game has a good sense of peaks and valleys, with plenty of quiet, atmospheric moments in between some of the more climactic battles. All of the explosive set-pieces were earned. For every cabin fight or military island attack, you had a half dozen 'catch your breath' and tension building areas, and these areas never outstayed their welcome. The pacing and the ebb and flow of the game was masterfully done. All the different weapons, the upgrade system, enemy types, random loot drops: they add to the basic formula in a way that’s so elegant and immediate that it makes every modern action RPG looter shooter whatever the hell hybrid look like a dry, convoluted Excel spreadsheet by comparison. The game is so no-nonsense that I honestly struggle to come up with more ways to explain why it’s so good that aren't obvious.

Perfect music, art style, and fairly simple but perfect gameplay. Story is lovely and the time travel aspects are done great. Another reason I like it so much, is the games pacing and the fact that the dungeons don't overstay their welcome. For example one of my other favourite games, Persona 4/P4G, the dungeons seem too long to be such samey-looking areas and just a few variations of enemies changing every few floors. I guess it's to balance out the social life and story-bits but the pacing seems a bit dull. There is freedom when to do the dungeons and in how many parts, but since there are deadlines, it doesn't encourage to spend too many days in a dungeon.

Crash Team Racing (CTR) absolutely deserves a mention when talking about perfect games, especially in the kart racing genre. Not only did it rival every Mario Kart released up until that point, but it arguably outclassed them in most ways, making it a standout title that still holds up today as one of the best kart racers ever made. The track design was nothing short of brilliant. Each track was meticulously crafted, with a perfect balance of challenge and fun. The incredibly hard shortcuts, hidden routes, and interactive environments added layers of depth that rewarded players for skillful driving and exploration, something that, to this extend, was ahead of its time. The character roster was diverse and well-balanced, with each character bringing unique stats to the table, adding strategic depth to the choice of racer. The power-up system was also innovative, allowing skilled players to amplify the effectiveness of items through techniques like Power Sliding, which added another layer of strategy and mastery to the game. Moreover, CTR’s Adventure Mode set it apart from the competition. Unlike Mario Kart’s straightforward Grand Prix, CTR offered a fully-fledged single-player experience with bosses, challenges, and collectibles that made it more than just a racing game-it was an adventure in itself. Even the controls were incredibly tight and responsive, giving players a real sense of control and rewarding precise inputs. The Power Slide mechanic, in particular, was a game-changer, adding a level of challenge that set it apart from other racers, where mastering and connecting drift boosts to keep momentum was key to victory, as opposed to many other kart racer’s rubberbanding system. Skill came first, your given items second, instead of the other way around. To this day, Crash Team Racing is praised for how well it holds up. The fact that it received a successful remaster decades later speaks volumes about its lasting appeal and quality. It wasn’t just another kart racer. It was, and still is, a benchmark for the genre.

I understand there's not any noticable issues but there's just SO MUCH in this game to where I didn't know if I should include it Doom Eternal: I love this game for its atmosphere, but I wasn't sure what to think about some of its combat mechanics, although I've been more favorable to it lately. Twilight Princess: It's close to perfect so I guess I definitely could've included it. I chose Ocarina of Time over it tho because I think the pacing is miles better. Rayman Legends: I didn't think the level design is as consistently solid as it is in mario and donkey kong platformers and I thought the game controlled a bit wonky, but I still think it's a great game. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: This game could definitely be mentioned. I guess I didn't like the inclusion of Mario Kart Tour tracks in the DLCs Overall all of these games COULD make an appearance in part 2, and I still have time to come up with a list.

While Twilight Princess is indeed one of my all time favorite video games, it does have some flaws. The introduction is slow, especially on replays. Some of the bosses are laughably easy and basically consist of “shoot the big glowing eye”. Some of the items become useless outside of their initial dungeon. Finally there was the questionable storyline decision to bring back Ganondorf at the last second. Again a solid 10/10 game, but not flawless.

My big issue with the original Red Dead Redemption is that I think the game's story is incredibly awfully paced. Like there's 57 missions in the games main story, yet mission 24 feels like the end of the first act, when the stories really gonna start to get going, but you're already almost at the halfway point, so everything past that point feels extremely rushed and as a result many characters like Landon just end up randomly disappearing from the plot entirely without any sort of resolution to their character or acknowledgement of their existence past a certain point and most of the characters just are unable to get developed properly. Like in the first 24 missions you get shot, go through this whole tutorial on the ranch with Bonnie, fight some outlaws, and finally kill Bill Williamson. That's all that happens in the first 24 missions and it's incredibly paced. The final 9 missions are essentially and epilogue where you spend the game with your family retire to a peaceful life and (spoilers) so everything else that happens in the story literally happens between missions 25 and 48, the exact same amount as what feels like the first act. There should been at least that many missions just in Mexico, as well as like 24 more missions to build up to Dutch. Like this game genuinely should've been like 80 something missions, because at this state it felt beyond rushed to me.
@WyvrnOnYT3 ай бұрын
I will say the story isn't perfect, but I will defend it in this regard. I think the reason there's 24 missions in the first act is because it's supposed to be seen as the beginning of the grind. As you get to mexico you're way closer to tracking willamson and escuela down so the game didn't try to drag itself on for any longer. Then when you're in west elizabeth you're on the final step of the process, and once you're done they didn't want to bore the player by making like 20 farming missions. Maybe this explanation is just a cope but I actually don't mind the story pacing since I've played through the game like 7 times. One thing I DON'T like about the game is the thing you mentioned about the character resolutions, but actually Landon Rickets does get a character resolution, granted it's a small one. Once you beat the game you can buy a newspaper that says he passed away peacefully in his sleep in mexico. edit: in terms of character resolutions, I wish you could meet up with bonnie mcfarlane, abraham reyes, ect, as jack marston after you beat the game. It'd be a good tribute to not just their characters, but John's character as well.

Literally every level feels handcrafted and not tilebased, there’s a lot of music that only appears in singular levels and the world and level themes are some of the most unique, too. 3:45 - They were able to create game saves on NES hardware. Zelda had saves. They had to run off a CR 2032 battery that basically supplies constant power to the game to maintain the save. All of the Super Nintendo games run off that same technology. Great list! However, you can’t make a list of the greatest games of all time and ignore one of the most important 2D games in history: *Sonic 3 & Knuckles.* The game represents the absolute peak of what is considered the most influential and culturally relevant 2D character ever, alongside Mario. The level design, graphics, music (with Michael Jackson and his team as composers), innovative in-game storytelling, and groundbreaking lock-on technology (a precursor to the DLC trend) all felt incredibly fresh and polished. These elements make the game a milestone in the 2D platform genre, and its influence can still be felt today. Other games worth mentioning: - Streets of Rage - Crash Team Racing - Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver - RE4

Replaying Perfect Dark (n64), the only thing holding it back was framerate issues. Other than that, the game was packed with endless content and beautiful attention to detail, especially for a game with 32MB in 2000. The enemies pulling melee moves when in close range with the endless cheesy dialogue, getting dizzy when getting hit, enemies hobbling on one leg or holding an arm (depending on where they're shot), 45+ minutes of cutscenes, surprisingly complex missions, and packed multiplayer. Calling Elden Ring perfect is hilarious. It’s good but people simp way too hard over it. Some of the worst balancing a game has ever had ans still remains poorly balanced and late game areas are sadly short and too empty. You could also throw in the fact that when it released, most people’s experience with it was very buggy. Radagons wolf, a death rite bird, radagon, Elden beast, and about half a dozen others were bugged and either killer themselves or didn’t fight back.
