So about that rant in the opener, in one of the manuals from one of the first games it says that goombas actually betrayed the Mushroom Kingdom, koopas work for the guy who kidnapped the princess, thwomps try to squish Mario if he dare comes near, chain chomps always try to pounce on Mario, and more. Now Mario is a villain in some cases (excluding player inputs) but not in that way.
