all of them were a masterpiece. simplicity and reliability, even the red shell when you were so close with the 1st place, in MK8D sometimes it won't hit the first place and it will go away. everything was reliable on this game, even though it was more simple.

This version of the track stands out to me a lot more than 8’s. If they added that twilight atmosphere and toned down the urban setting, it would’ve been much better. Instead, it felt like a lazy reimagine of Moonview Highway.

@Elijah Lafond True, vehicles like the Wiggler Wagon were what was missing from MK7, and the ones that were there were just dumbed down versions of existing vehicles. While the sedan stayed the same, the bus was reduced to an SUV, and the cargo truck was reduced to a three wheeler.

I used to play this map alot with my sister on our Nintendo 64, it was my sisters favorite map, mine was Rainbow road, but this map is my 2nd favorite. I always thought it was a nice map, the music, the scenery was all well made and I could always feel a little bit of the 80s in this, I always thought this map was a bit weird though since it's a highway in the Mario World and it's not specific about what world its inside of and theres trucks n cars traveling on this highway, I never thought anything in Mario had Cars or Trucks on their worlds. All of the maps on Mario Kart 64 was all good maps and intriguing to me, they made it interesting and I always was left wondering what world each map was in and imagining if Mario games would use the ideas of these maps in a TV series and put in a backstory and actually show the characters using spacecraft to get to each world. Im pretty sure mario Galaxy did something like that, that game has actually shown more detail and lore n backstory about the entire mario universe and used the idea that each world is actually a planet and it shows how mario actually gets to worlds. I still think there oughtta be a TV series that goes beyond that n explore more things but that's just me.

In retrospect, Toad's Turnpike was carried by the circumstances of N64's limitations incidentally making it more intense and claustrophobic. Even though Toad's Turnpike has been properly made over into a technically superior track, I don't think it's quite as hectic as its fans praised the original for.

It’s not truly a remake though. Crediting hardware limitations to success is somewhat redundant. The creativity you can get out of working within set limits is a core aspect of video game design. Giving the track loads more breathing space and background scenery may have made it more enjoyable from a gameplay perspective, but it’s lost so much of its original identity that it can’t be considered the same map at all like other tracks that were brought to 8 with little changes aside from visuals. Its more of a spiritual successor. They completely stripped all the claustrophobia and discomfort that made the map what it was.

The claustrophobia felt more unfair in tandem with the controls of the time; it's something I feel like you could only really appreciate having grown up with it.

This track is impossible on the Switch. The joycons are so sensitive to every little movement and it seems like the hit boxes on the vehicles are larger. Edit: Not MK8. That one is decent and I like it. I mean MK64 on the N64 expansion.
