Its only real downside is a lack of VS mode. The quality of tracks in the aggregate exceeds that of any other Mario Kart, even MK8D which has an abundance of great tracks.

I’ve noticed that there seems to be this cycle of people going from hating to loving Mario Kart games. Back then, people weren’t big fans of Wii (old MK ranking videos I’ve seen put it very low), but when the people who played Wii got older, they defended it, and the game became one of the most popular Mario Kart games. It seems like this exact thing is happening with 7, as there have been a lot of “7 is underrated” videos, plus more people calling 7 their favourite Mario Kart game.

I have a theory that they originally intended to have Waluigi in the game, but due to time constraints they scrapped his character and simply made a heavyweight Mario skin, metal Mario. Believe it or not a lot of people played as Metal Mario, he was probably the #1 heavyweight character when I was playing online.

I played 7 back when it was the newest Mario Kart game and still own it, but I completely forgot Waluigi was not a playable character. When you mentioned his absence, I was absolutely astounded because I always play Waluigi so all I could think was "Who the fuck was my racer if not Waluigi!?!?!?" by the end of the vid, I think I recall settling on Metal Mario. I'm sure I could verify by checking my Ghost records, since I obviously would have placed most personal records using my favorite racer/kart combo.

Both underrated and unappreciated, i just bought the game over the weekend and started playing it and when I looked at the features it provided, I feel like it's a step up from MKDS, also ne characters returned, others were removed, but they did add a Mii character in the game which is one thing that did return from Wii. Being you can use your mii character, but i had to complete 50cc cups in order to use my Mii character.

God I miss this game I consider myself to be good at mario kart, (best outta my friend group at least) but I always did best here compared to wii, ds or 8 and I loved playing this more than them, it was probably my favorite game on the 3ds period, definitely had my highest playtime (other than KZbin but it's KZbin so gimme a break) This was my first mario kart game and I will always love it, RIP online and I'll always miss it Also the glider feels like an actual feature in this game with a lot more control compared to 8 which feels horribly restricted and just a way to get to the other part of the course

I agree. I enjoyed 7 much more than 8 deluxe personally. 7 has good feeling gameplay and great track selection. The main issue for me is that once you beat all of the cups (which doesn’t take very long) there’s not much reason to play anymore. Like you said local multiplayer is much more difficult with it being a handheld and there’s no mission mode like MKDS to keep you busy

I disagree that the coin item is ruined in 8 Deluxe. Firstly, it’s still balance to only allow first place to have one real item rather than two. And secondly, it forces first place to go for double items if they have no items at all, punishing them if they miss.

I think that the FOV is done in a way where it suits the screen, the game does feel slightly sluggish at times but I think that its just to compensate for the 3ds. The lack of Vs mode does suck though

The most underrated Mario Kart is Mario Kart 8, and not the deluxe version. If you have this Mario Kart, you know that it was not perfect, but without this, 8 deluxe would not have been what it is today.

I think, it's a solid game. The problem is, it's too solid in every way. The content is not really big. I would never say, it's in the Top 5, because the tracks are only ok, the most Retro Tracks are great, but the Nitro Tracks are maximum ok, maybe 5 great ones, 2 tracks of the Special Cup are terrible and I am not a big fan of the Wuhu Island tracks, they are feeling boring, one feels like a much better track in Mario Kart DS, but it is much worse. And even if the graphics are actually better, I like the style of Mario Kart DS much more and would also say that the Nitro Tracks are much better. Even the Mario Circuit in DS is much better than 7. I would also say, remaking great tracks is much easier than making new great tracks. Because of that I say that new tracks are counting more than old tracks. Mario Kart 7 has 2 modes less than DS. One Battle Mode is different in these 2 games, but the Battle Mode in DS feels better, because it's more challenging and it makes more fun. And DS has Mission Mode and Versus Mode. The only 3 things which are cool in 7 are the kart modification, flying and diving. The problem is, the kart selection in DS are so cool that I feel no upgrade in 7. The drivers are also much better in DS. For me 7 is a much worse version of DS with better graphics and because of that I think it can be a bit forgettable.

imo MK7 has the best handling and physics of any mario kart if you want to time trial them to a decent level. Mk8dx isn't very intuitive to me with soft drifting and likewise for MKwii. Gliding in 7 is just fun to do whereas in mk8 it feels very rigid. Unfortunately 7 lacks in terms of game modes, characters and other main features but drifting and gliding just feels perfect to me. mk8 is an objectively better game than 7, but i can't get over how bad it feels to drive

Mario Kart 7 is the best game in the whole series.All the mechanics ported to MK8D are from MK7 and made a whole lot better.Mario Kart Wii only ported bikes Tricking and yea.. motion controlls.. (we dont talk about that) they did add Inward drifting bikes but they basically were remade from 0 in Mario Kart 8 and basically ruined and the whelies were so op that made Mario Kart Wii the broken game it is today and not to forget that they have ruined steering in that game by nerfing the drift on every kart.Mario Kart 7 is the game with the most ported mechanics to 8 deluxe in the series Underwater driving Gliding and Kart costumization MK7 tracks are a banger (except you Cheep Cheep Lagoon and Toad circuit) and for me it's the best game when it comes to controlls it's so fluid but still a bit janky (in a good way)

I don't think Mario Kart 7 is underrated nor overrated, instead I know that MK7 actually gets approximately the amount of love that it actually deserves! Why? Well, there is the fact that I absolutely despise MK7's decision of lacking Single-Player VS Mode (especially for being a handheld/portable MK game released in the 2010s), but that's not the biggest main reason as to why I deny MK7 as underrated (even though it's still one of my bigger reasons), rather I disagree with MK7 being underrated because i've seen a plethora of so many people praise MK7 and loving that game from the bottom of their hearts! Some examples of various people actually loving MK7 include: 1: someone commenting on MK7's trailer as "Great Game, Bad Trailer", and that comment got hundreds (if not thousands) of likes. 2: not only that, but when I defended the trailer as being better than the game itself, someone argued with me in an attempt to convince me that MK7 is good when I personally didn't enjoy it all that much. 3: when a Nintendo-related Facebook Group Post asked what each reader's least favorite played Mario game was, I commented MK7, and then I received angry-reactions from a replier telling me that MK7 is a phenomenal game. 4: literally every KZbin Short using those famous phrase-memes from real-people to rank each Mario Kart game always gave MK7 a "WOOH!" at worst, but never even an "I mean it's alright!" rating. One of the Mario Kartubers whom I follow even gave it an "it was perfect!" rating unlike all other Mario Kart games, and even told me that MK7 was his favorite one. I don't wanna make this comment too long, but I think you (hopefully) get the idea! With all examples I provided above, my point is that i've seen way more people compliment MK7 than I have seen people diss it online. Mario Kart 7 is even one of the Nintendo 3DS's Top 10 Best-Selling games of all time! Look, I'm not saying I hate MK7 by any means, I think it's concept is pretty great, all things considered! I'm simply expressing why I disagree that MK7 is underrated without calling it overrated (because I don't think it is either). Outside of their lack of Single-Player VS Mode (and the fact that they re-included Rosalina but not Toadette), I really love MK7 and think it's a wonderful game by all means, it's just missing one important feature that would've added enough replay-value to it. Sorry if this comment was too long!
