Here is a little help that works a lot of the time: When the game said that the disc could not be read it helps in wii and gamecube to just put cd out of console while it's showing that it could not be read and then put it back inside or clean it with something not hard and then when you put it back inside it will run cd again and it i'll fix the problem a lo of the time! I know that this trick works for sure on wii games and gamecube games running on wii. (Please like so everyone can see :D)

You should try a smashing Sunday, but play a fan game of the SSBB series instead. I know a good flash game called Super Smash Flash 2. It might be laggy, but it might be worth trying.
