The Mega Mushroom, Thunder Cloud, and POW Block were introduced in Mario Kart Wii, only to be dropped from Mario Kart 7.

just a question what does Thunder cloud do, which im assuming is different from lightning

The Thunder Cloud is like a "hot potato" item. It gives the host near-instant acceleration, increased top speed, and off-road immunity when active. However... just before it wears off, it will zap the host and shrink them like the Lightning item. The Thunder Cloud gets passed to whoever the host bumps into. The idea is to take advantage of the boosts, and then pass it to another racer before the zap happens. It's a risk-reward item.
