I personally like being behind the ghost also, because when I have an enormous lead, I make careless errors and feel mentally pressured more. I agree with you on that Troy, it’s really interesting how the psychological part can impact your racing.

I usually don't do time trials. The only one I did was "mario kart 8 deluxe" to unlock the gold part. Depending on the level, I like being ahead because its a straight forward, easy track. Other levels, stress out being ahead, prefer behind so I can always try to mimic the actions of the ghost and find some small flaws to then break ahead of the ghost last lap.

The shortcut is good to be hard because it gives the other section purpose for less skilled racers and it is skill because you can’t tilt back to much and still make it
