PikaPerfect I just finally came around to finish it last months. But the night before I beated it. I had my game soft lock on me. Once coming out of surfing on Luigi back to the main land. You can get attacked during the animation. After the battle you can't move and Mario is frozen in the air. I had to replay over an hour of gameplay because I was doing side quests like the Harhalls pants.

Much like Bowser's beginning battle in this game, if you hack your power in Paper Mario to do damage to beginning Bowser after he turns invincible, you'll softlock the game. Lanky is objectively the best Kong.

I just finished this game normally again for the eleventyth time yesterday because it was a favorite as a kid. Thought there wasn’t a speedrun community for this game, boy was I wrong. Also that Cackletta soul fight is even more horrifying now lmao. Although recently with the Mush Badge I was able to win in like 7-8 turns. Wish I knew about it when I was younger :/

If that many mushrooms with the Mush Badge adds 13 damage, then apparently the Mush Badge allows the bros to reach a minimum of a not-normally-obtainable 0 damage due to the Mush Badge boost making that not be 0 damage, as some attacks (Chopper Bros. after a certain amount of hits, counterattacking Dark Bowletta's Star Storm) were dealing 13 damage, the Mush Badge boost.

Derricault Gameplay wise, the sequels are miles better, imo; but Superstar Saga definitely has the best characters and dialogue, and is by far the most unique of all of them; which is why I'm super excited for the remake to bring the gameplay up to speed.

You know, I really never thought of this before now, concerning the exchange rate of Mushroom coins to Beanbean coins, but, I gotta say it now: Based on this, Beanbean Kingdom's economy must be pretty solid, while Mushroom Kingdom's must be positively broken! In Joke's end, at the part right after the little minigame with the blocks, there is a little yellow platform. You're supposed to stand on it with Mario and have Luigi hit it from underneath, but if you have Luigi hit it and then have Mario walk on it, Mario will fall through it. You'd think you could go back a few rooms and have Luigi go under a grate, but no, for some reason, Mario is unable to hit the yellow platform. This happened to me on my most recent playthrough of this game, and i was super pissed.

It actually IS possible to survive cacklettas fire spin as Luigi you just have to time it right. I was playing on virtual console as well and my Mario died and kackletta used her fire spin but I was too salty to restart the fight so I loaded the restore point about 100 times and finally beat her dam fire spin attack as solo Luigi x.x

+tofuzoo52 It's impossible to avoid the fastest version of fire spin as solo Luigi when Cackletta's below 50% health. When she is above 50% it's possible to avoid fire spin but it's very difficult.

During the final battle you can actually hit Cackletta's giant energy ball multiple times when she attacks Luigi, ending the attack quicker, you just have to time it correctly. I dunno if that makes much of a difference in a speedrun.

from the visuals, it seems like the runner is missing Mario's final command in Knockback Bros. against Cackletta's heart intentionally. Does high damage trigger time consuming counterattack or something?

+Zero SSOX Cackletta has different attack phases at 100%, 75%, 50%, and 25% health. I intentionally avoid the 25% attacks because they take the longest and they are the most difficult to avoid. She takes four turns to kill anyway so avoiding the strongest attacks is ideal.

lizzyvainne Just trying to get the mechanics down sine I'm playing paper jam now and am trying to dedicate what each bro does. Mario is naturally strong and has high BP, while Luigi has much HP and def. Paper Mario is multi hitter but isn't amazingly strong. I hope the mechanics are the same on this front. So when I use Mario's bros attacks Luigi's damage output in those are determined by Mario's power?

+KoopaXross Bros attacks are calculated based on which bro is making the connecting hit, not necessarily whose turn it is. Chopper Bros and Knockback Bros both use Mario's power because Mario is the one hitting the enemy at the end of the attack. This is why I only need to buy a Mush Badge for Mario instead of both of them. Paper Jam as far as I know is based on whose turn it is.
