I really like the idea of a level in a video game going a little against the skill curve. For me this level is harder than most world 5 and 6 levels, but not impossible and I think that's fun. Progressively increasing the difficulty but in the middle having some harder levels to keep it chalenging. Kinda like cuphead with those bosses that are harder than any other boss in that world

I love the way you think about game design. As a person who's into storytelling and music, seeing how something works then applying what you've learned and executing it in a satisfying way is one of the best feelings in the world. I guess I could describe it as feeling accidentally genius? I don't know if you feel the same way about it, but I got that feeling from watching this video. Just hearing you say "How would the player see this..." is just so cool. You're a fantastic game designer, man. Keep up the great work! I'd love to see more of these kinds of videos from you, they're a ton of fun!

This was so entertaining to watch, his ability to put himself in the player's position and mindset and to build a level with interesting and actually fun design, with reasonable difficulty just all combines into making the sickest experience as a player. I'd play a video game if Jacob designed it 100%, even if it was a genre I wasn't a fan of.

I have mad respect for this man. edit: more words i wanted to say you can see his desire to create and become better especially in this video, his constant reinvention and editing so that his levels can be challenging and exciting. just respect for this man's passion and constant desire to better himself, it's just very admirable

5:52 "What have we taught the player so far?" This was hammered into my mind during my game design classes, and nowhere near enough developers today keep it in mind when they're making their games. Using the game itself to teach you about the game and building a skillset rather than throwing individual challenges at the player are such important aspects of game design, and Alpha gets it better than most professional devs today.

I honestly think that the 1-up at the start of Labyrinth Alpha 2 is the best troll in the super world. You get infinite lives, but they’re useless since not only is it the final level but it has no checkpoints, so there’s no difference between getting a game over and just dying.
