Mario Party 5 may not be my favorite game in the series, but Mario Party 5 still has a whole bunch of awesome minigames and that classic Gamecube Mario Party charm. I cant speak for the development of games, but I’ve worked with crews in college on animation projects and sometimes assets like the “capsule cant/isnt used” text could be a note to either programmers or a reminder not to waste time on making it for someone who might think it still needs to be done.

Or more likely, they were for debug use on a test map without those features on it.

@@elnkr2603 That seems to be pretty common, I presume all of the text is actually stored in a single file and the translators just go through line by line. Sometimes they seem to stop at this step while other times you can tell the translated version was actually play tested a bit so they could clean up the translations. As for the original question it's possible that those capsules were actually used but not as capsules, it may have just been easier for the programmers to use capsule objects with some custom code for something.

@@grn1 My bet is that they were intending on randomizing DK and VS spaces and using the capsule mechanic already provided was probably easier than hardcoding some new rng to shuffle them.

3:29 I believe the DK capsule is used for generating DK spaces like how random red spaces are assigned to be bowser spaces, and the VS space was used to generate VS spaces (4 player games). The bowser, vs, and dk capsules are used for generation of boards.

This is the best Mario Party if you ask me. Capsules are actually way better than items. They're so much more flexible.

Once again outstanding Lost Bits video, Tetra! 😃 Yeah, I have no idea why Donkey Kong was cut as a playable character in this game, and only as an NPC for the next 12 years, and items were reduced to just capsules either (but, hey, since MP10 on the Wii U in 2015, he’s made a grand return (minus Mario Party: 100 Mini-Game Collection (The Top 100’s Japanese title, which I prefer more personally), for whatever reason), which is awesome). It is also a shame that the beta title wasn’t utilized in the final version as I thought it’d look a lot cooler with the animations, but at least we still have the character silhouettes on the file select screen! My favorite feature was definitely the one with all the different animations for each character which no doubt will be used as memes! 🤣 Can’t wait for the next LB video on MP6! 👌

I think the reason why the characters are far away from the others in the character selection is because they would clip into other characters portraits. Don’t know why wario is far back though.

At 11:32 the possible reason why it has a model with blacked out windows is because in games alpha blending (semi transparent textures or materials) usually has issues displaying alpha blending through a alpha blending surface and the game gets confused at what order it needs to render that surface, there are ways to combat it by defining properties in meshes if it’s the same object but two different objects is when it becomes harder, not sure if that’s a issue in this game, but most games I’ve looked into even modern ones have that issue

The capsule text for DK and VS spaces sound like they were meant to be randomly placed on the board at the start of play phase, like how in the first Mario Party games you had the star locations shown to you in the intro. Maybe it was even supposed to be the board host or DK throwing the capsule, or it would have gotten a new throw each time that space was set off to randomize it further.

I think I know what the capsules were meant for my best guess is they were used to test how DK and VS minigames work in game as a sought of faster way of testing it to see if the text and everything appeared all right when doing the vs mode developers often do stuff like this to quickly check stuff in game but I'm probably wrong considering that Mario parties have debugs so it would be obsolete.

12:20 my guess is that their way of move is someway different because anatomy? all 6 have very normal body size wario and toad has a bigger torso so arms dont move much bowser jr(?) has a shell so arms are more in front so harder to more arms back and boo is a ball, the most free in movement

4 for multiplayer, 5 if you want cpu with decent AI.

Super and SuperStars both allow for online multiplayer which could be good, if you don't have friends who play you can find Discord communities. But if you want a solid single player experience then 2, 5, and 7 are the ones I would recommend. Although it seems I may be nostalgia blind about 5 because I watched a LP and the guys playing it all complained about the minigames
