When me and my brother were kids and we discovered that the clock wasn't counting real seconds we started calling them "Mushroom Kingdom Seconds". I don't think we ever worked out the conversion rate though.

It took me awhile to notice that but the one reason why I noticed that was I was wearing a watch and got through the first 3 stages and checked how many minutes went by at the end of the stages my older cousins and brothers called it but it was only off by 4 minutes

I almost worked it out, I'd count the seconds but I was imprecise, so I got 3 MKseconds for every real second.

@@fluxie31_old No, the frame rule (long timer tick) is 21 frames for NTSC and 18 frames for PAL, which is about 0.35-0.36 seconds. But the time limit uses a short timer to decrement every 24 frames for NTSC and 20 frames for PAL, which is about 0.4 seconds. So a "Mushroom Kingdom second" in SMB1 is about 0.4 SI seconds.
