This guy's a master of the thumb-plectrum. Very groovy, melodic and capable of, with one finger (Thumb), playing lines that most bassplayers can't with their index and middle fingers. Onya Mario, I'm a great fan.

I was at this concert! We were lucky enough to be given backstage passes and watched them playing from behind the curtain. It was an incredible experience. We had a lot of fun hanging with the band and showing them around the city. Despite Mario's cooler than cool façade on stage, he had an incredible sense of humour and kept us laughing most of the time, especially shopping in the toy department. Thanks for the memories!

That was the one thing that never added up with Mario and the style of his playing, always thought he would’ve been a vintage p or jazz bass? But then again, it was a sign of the times and also something that made his sound special and more than just a “throwback.”

@@fmbighair spector basses (owned by Kramer at this time) were and are great basses. I don't know about this one but MC still has his vintage jazz bass that he used predominantly in 1984 and during his time with Soundhole.

I'm an oldie ...I followed Mario's brother who was an incredible guitar player...you may have heard of one of the original San Francisco "sound" bands called, The Quicksilver Messenger Service...his playing gave it the sound. Mario, your brother rocked ..and I still listen to him. Peace to you.

Great solo! I always loved Mario's sound and bass lines. I also always loved his thumbpicking technique. Very unique. I believe Mario's one of the most underrated bassists ever. John Pierce is good (who Huey has with him now), but he's no Mario.

I have watched this several times and the melodic notes with the chords is great . He has a great sense of rhythm and it just flows like its own song . I love it and the rediscovering of him has been great.

Of all the hundreds of bass solos I've heard, this remains my favourite one since I came across it years ago. Not the most technical, not the most difficult, not the most anything. But it's just right. And it captures the classic 80s sound just wonderfully.

I love many bass players and think Entwistle from The Who is the master of all . BUT I also like others and this solo is just tasteful and melodic and shows that slapping and popping is not where it is always at . I have watched this a few times and marvel how he is just grooving .

Good to see that he CAN play bass solos if he chooses to and not just any solos. The live concert I watched Huey threw to Mario but he didn't do a solo, and the Oregon recording (I've counted up to 8 releases of the exact same recording) only features a brief Chris Hayes solo.
