The Ice Flower one of the few power-ups in Super Mario Galaxy that I like in terms of its execution. I'm so bummed out that it didn't return in the sequel (and yet the Spring Mushroom had the audacity to return).

Caleb Jaaniste Spring Mushroom is a waste of a powerup. Can't control yourself at all and the jump half the time doesn't work even if you time it right. I rather use the normal Mario skills than that power up unless I really need too.

It's pretty fun to bypass sections of the game intended to be accomplished with Spring Mario. I haven't noticed trouble with getting Mario to do the really high jump, but the physics on his turning is really weird, and the automatic wall-jump is infuriating.

@Aurakitsune Yes the Flying Mario music is included on the SMG2 disc, it was actually surprising to me as well (I originally thought I would at the very least have to disable the music for Flying Mario to work).

They probably removed the Ice flower because they wanted to replace it with the iceball firing thing. For the Red star, I don't know why they removed it. Maybe it was too hard for some players to control Flying Mario?

About the themes of the poweurps... They can be either unused.... Or can be carried over from the prequel, but sound different because the samples used for the sequenced music of SMG2 are slightly different than those from SMG1... Noticeably the Strings...

The music seemes to be a carry-over from SMG, and the changes in the music (more noticeably in the Flying Mario Theme) maybe just that the synths used in SMG2 are slightly different than in SMG. Just hear a non-unused track like the Rolling Ball Theme. It's almost the same as in SMG1, just that the string samples have changed. What happens with Flying Mario is that the instrument that used to be a flute-like sound...

Flying Mario is awesome! If there was a hack where you were to go through the course and there was no Warp Stars (unless for place's where the Warp Star is needed), you could fly to the other place's slowly and it's more fun! XD

Do you plan on putting them in the game with a hack or something? I´d love to be able to use the ice flower and the red star normally, which was such a shame for nintendo for not including them. Also, make the power ups in starship Mario usable instead of being just trophies. They just let you use cloud Mario on the starship (but anyway, cloud Mario is overused as hell in the game)

@HyperHoundoom ...has been replaced with a new synth instrument in SMG2, thus the theme sounds different in SMG2, because it plays in the same instrument offset, but the instrument is a different one now.

For the Ice flower, in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, the Ice flower was probably for throwing iceballs and not turn into solid ice and skate on water like in Galaxy, so they probably removed the Ice flower in Galaxy 2. And yeah I don't get why they removed the red star.

@Diggeh Well since it's a background you can't really REACH it I'm pretty sure. However, hackers have found out their file names are "beyond hell's valley tree". So they're probably just meant to be trees. And apparently the area you're at is "Hell's Valley"

@narutomaster9222 It clearly says that these are codes. BTW, they are indeed in the game, but there's no "instance" of the game calling them for an "event", in other words, they are unused. The Ice Mario model was removed even, but it's "behavior" still is in the files. (A similar "event" is called by the game at Shiverburn Galaxy, when the crystals fall in the lava, they turn into bigger versions of Ice Mario's ice tiles)

No, you cannot. Galaxy 2 was made with Galaxy 1's game engine and had more code built upon it to make the new power-ups and such. The only reason that the old power-ups are possible is because of old Galaxy 1 code still present in Galaxy 2 but inaccessible unless you're using hacks, as is demonstrated here
