"I feel like 64 didn't really capture Mario platforming abilities." This is exactly how I feel about 64. You can do _so much_ with Mario's moveset, but the levels in vanilla are very limiting. ROM hacks, on the other hand... One hack called The Green Comet takes the vanilla levels and uses them to their absolute fullest.
