What I love about vibingleaf is how he doesn't just rely on fear, he humanizes people in his retakes. He relies on familiarity, on the horror of our real world, that many monsters were once people. It makes it all the more heart-wrenching to show monsters that just have always been monsters. His horror isn't in your face, trying to get a cheap undeserved jump, it toys with you, it creeps up on you, playing with your emotions, slowly giving a rising feeling of uncomfort that unlike cheap jumps, will stay with you.

I have s feeling it could be a rom hack or a custom NES rom file because of the differences of Mario’s movement and Goombas not falling off blocks. but once we progress into the video, we noticed sprites and background that exceed the 3 color limit that is applied to sprites and backgrounds for the NES, so I doubt it’s an NES rom. It could be a homebrew for the NES, but it’s played on what looks like an emulator, so I doubt it would be a homebrew. I have a feeling maybe the emulator is for a different console, and the rom might be for something like the SEGA Genesis, possibly using one glitch that can create images or backgrounds that can exceed the color limit. For the music that sounds like the NES sound chip, I think the person that made the ROM file made audio samples that replicate the NES audio. Although, I might be wrong. I know some stuff about consoles and their hardware, but not a lot.

Okay. VibingLeaf told me it was not an emulator. Tbh, based on huge differences, I have a feeling it might be something else. My brain started thinking that it might be a flash game that was downloaded and played on a modified flash player. My theory for how they were able to play on the modified flash player was changing the date for before flash player support ended. Another thing my brain was thinking was that it was coded in C# with a Windows Form engine for a save and load progress system, and they coded a pixel game engine to make sprites. Idk if it might be true though. Only VibingLeaf and the crew controls the story.

My theory is that this Mario Game is a bootleg made by a cult (Maybe of similar nature to a cult like Heaven's Gate or more likely, Aum Shinrikyo, another Japanese Cult) to either indoctrinate kids or coerce them into suicide (Maybe as some perverted idea of sacrifice or enlightenment), perhaps "Martin" Is a priest of said cult, explaining his rather common name. So i tried to do the translating using Goggle Translate because japanese. Some of these might note be accurate tho but yeah. So the title is: Mario19(Martin and Mario's Wonderful Adventure) danger) In 0:20 is: "Mario is caught by Martin" 5:00 on the other end.... I don't think the translation is right especially on the "I'm wearing" part but it translated to: "Cotin is you Martin is you Mernine is you I'm chasing! I'm wearing! I'm chasing run way" 7:40-8:12 "no one loves you we are the emperor we are you what is best for know what is good What did your parents tell you about installing unknowns? things will be very different, my friend" And in 8:19 it translated to: "These renderings sincerely ask you to commit su*c*de Do it now!" 9:48 "Thank you Mario!" "Your cycle is over." "you didn't save anyone."

This is really well made and I applaud you for making something odd and unnerving. The one thing that bugged me throughout the entire video though Was that none of the new objects added into the game were even remotely pixelated or graphically capable of being on the NES at all. Obviously I don't expect this to be something that could exist in real hardware, but making it look a bit more like it could, would've made it work a lot more for me. Again, very cool. Your creepypasta work is very well done!

@@Cattyclysm I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm as obsessed with accuracy as you are. I'm the kind of person who cares about pixel accuracy, color palette limitations, VHS being deinterlaced to 60fps properly, etc to the point I talk to everyone about it. But it's not really that there is no point to this, it's just being a callback to something else. You might not get it but some people have a nostalgia for those weird fangames you'd find in the 2000s, especially creepy ones (or urban legends about creepy ones). Heck, Luna Game was a thing back in the day. Again, I'm totally with you that things should strive for accuracy when they're trying to emulate something (with space for artistic liberty of course), but this is doing exactly that for what it intends to resemble.
