Our day walk up to Cradle Mountain's Marions Lookout, to celebrate the last day of winter in Tasmania, 2017.
On a picture perfect day of fine weather, we took the opportunity to go for a stroll. Our video will show you the chained sectioned of the walk in detail, both going up and coming back down. It's nothing to worry about.
We took the Lake Lilla / Wombat Pool track from the Dove Lake carpark. And then also went on a little further, up on to the plateau to look at all the snow, with views of Barn Bluff and Frenchmans Cap in the distance.
It's about a 7km return walk.

Marion's Lookout is a spectacular trek . Highly recommend it for people to do . I have so many breath taking photo's of the trek . Tasmania is Heaven on Earth . Unbeatable !

Yeah, Marions Lookout is up there for one of the better day walks in Tassie. And if you time it with good weather, there is nothing like it. Thanks for watching.

I enjoyed this watching video (to the end!).... haven't done much walking around Dove lake (yet) but plan on doing it in the future. Watching Vlogs like this make more inspired to do it!!! Spectacular view - looks wonderful.

Thanks for watching Michelle. Yeah, all of the walks in the Cradle area are spectacular. Any chance you get, they are highly rewarding and well worth the sore feet.

Great video mate. My husband and I are doing the Overland track for the first time this coming April, and the chain climb up is the bit I was most worried about but your video has really put my mind at ease!

Hi Dani, yeah the chained section is really nothing to fear. We were also really worried the first time we did. But now we have done it dozens of times, it's a no-brainer. 3 easy sections, even with the full weight of your day 1 overland pack. Take your time & take it in. So enjoy your OT hike - it'll be one of the best experiences you have, regardless of what weather you receive. Thanks for watching.

Another good video. Many thanks for posting, Wifey had a big pack for a day walk, I assume she was in training, I am visiting in mid March for a few days and being a Queenslander have very little in the way of cold weather clothing. Any advice on the layering your wear and type of pants would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Yeah, wifey always has over the top pack weights. She brings more than she needs to, all the time. But she's convinced she needs it all. We can get snow anytime of the year in Tassie - we had light snow just last week at Cradle after reaching 40 degrees in the days before - in Feb! So your layering depends on how much you feel the cold. Being a Qld'er, it might be colder for you than us. I have always got by with thermal long johns ( just Kathmadu upper price range ) ; a pair of long hiking pants ( again from Kathmaddu by chance ) which zip off at knees to convert into shorts ; and a third layer that is my rain pants from Snowgum. That's three layers that has always seen me dry & warm from the waste down. Don't forget your shoes/socks. Cold wet feet negate any warm clothing. So you want good waterproof shoes - we've gone with big heavy leather Scarpa's. They are heavy but work a treat in the cold & wet. But comfy in warm weather too. And likewise with the top half. A base thermal layer. Normal hiking long sleeve shirt ( you burn very quick down here ). Then a wind proof light jacket, followed by good quality Gortex rain jacket. Beanie and gloves ( chemical gloves from Woolies or Bunno's $5 ) - do they trick better than fancy waterproof hiking gloves. All of it easy to remove or put back on as the day progresses.
