Happy belated birthday! I turned 54 on the 25th of August. A fellow Virgo!♍️ I watched my first video of yours this evening and here I am at 3AM watching from the beginning. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate this channel. And you were learning kintsugi at 65. Love it! We are definitely kindred spirits. And I need to watch all your videos. You are not only a talented artist, but also a delightful teacher. Thanks for sharing your passions.

Thank you, Marion for your videos. I love watching them and have learned a lot. You have inspired me to finish a hand pieced quilt that I started almost 40 years ago! It is all pieced but I have been paralyzed by the hand quilting. I have been too critical of the quality of my stitches and this causes me to lose interest and stop working on it. Your attitude about enjoying the process and not being too careful has changed my attitude. I just need to get on with it, do a little every day and finish it! Thank you!
@marionsworld24
@marionsworld24 2 ай бұрын
Absolutely Paula. Take it from me... that quilt just sat there because I was annoyed with myself for ruining it (as I thought). Ten years later I realised it wasn't ruined at all. It was a beautiful quilt top just waiting to be finished and used. I didn't take any of the machine quilting out that hadn't been quite right. I left it in as the history of it's making. Maybe it's that our attitudes have changed. Plus as we get older we decide to give ourselves some grace and accept not everything can be perfect. And anyway do we even want it to be?

Fascinating water color set. I have looked them up on line, and some of the sets are fairly pricey…..but I’ll save, and keep looking. I’ll practice w/ just a cheap school set of watercolor. It looks so fun painting on material. I love to watch you. Keep on w/ the quilt. It’s great!

Acrylics will work better Anne. Watercolor paints won't be colourfast. Before I managed to buy the Inktense I used to use watered down cheap acrylic paint. The sort you can get cheaply from DIY stores or craft shops. I love the intensity of colour that the Inktense have, but really just use the cheap acrylic. They'll work fine!

Hi Marion, Use the small 12 pan boxes Inktense since Derwent brought these out for my portrait group. I’d draw from life on fabric in a hoop with pencil then permanent uni ball pilot biro set in sepia/browns to dark to shade . Then watercolour inktense washes on top. The sketching stays fixed its brill. One was put in the middle of a quilt after ironing to set & stitched etc. Thanks for enabling your growing followers. Jen x

Thanks Lydia. I made my dress from a large linen one that I bought at a car boot sale for £3.... It was a sleeveless, full length dress. I loved the flowery pattern on the linen. There was only just enough to make myself a dress as I wanted long sleeves and a gathered skirt. In the end I patched the last sleeve together from all the scraps once I'd cut the main pieces out. It's one of my favourites to wear!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the look of painted fabric... how do I ensure there's no bleeding of paint color onto cotton embroidery floss?
@marionsworld24
@marionsworld24 Жыл бұрын
Are you wanting to use the inktense after you've embroidered Carolyn? If you're painting your fabric first then there's no bleeding at all once it's dry. If you're trying to colour something after you've embroidered then you'd have to make sure your brush wasn't very wet. It's the water content that would take the ink with it across the fabric. Using the ink more paste-like would ensure it wouldn't migrate. But it's all about practice really. Do a test piece like I did with the little flower. Hope that helps ☺️

Hello Linda. Thank you for your message. Yes the Inktense is permanent once it's been painted on and dried. I have really enjoyed using them as they give beautiful colours. But I should also say that I did use watered down acrylic paints before I had these. They also work super well on fabric as long as you don't use them too thickly.

Warm and Natural is not an easy batting to hand quilt, but worth persevering for beautiful results. The quilt is gorgeous! Thanks for the Inktense tutorial. If the Bondaweb is just for stabilization, I wonder if freezer paper might work. Would be more economical.

I've used freezer paper for stabilization before, but the bondaweb is actually integral to the process here. It allows us to do a different technique for the book. The quilt is looking quite nicely quilted. Originally I was free motion quilting and the bit I did does look lovely. But now I'm just happy to be completing it at last!☺️

I absolutely love the quilt you've made Marion. I've not used a sewing machine for years and years and I'm not great at measuring. As a beginner how hard would you say this quilt would be for someone like me? Could it be sewn by hand? I've looked at the PDF and it's very clear instructions. Should I learn to sew by machine again to do this? Lol big question. My apologies. Shelley x

Hi Shelley. I'd definitely say it could be done by hand.. It's all straight seams.. nothing particularly complicated. It is quite a large quilt though. I suppose it wouldn't be difficult to make a smaller version though...🤔 It's beautiful though. I messaged the lady after I finished..but got no reply I'm afraid..

Thanks Marion for the great tutorial, I am thinking of buying some Inktense would you recommend the pencils or the paint blocks to begin with?
@marionsworld24
@marionsworld24 Жыл бұрын
Personally I think the blocks are more useful when you're working with fabric. If I was doing more with paper craft I think the pencils would be more useful maybe. But I'm all fibre and fabric really!

Hi Marion! Beautiful quilt. I did not attempt to start any quilt as of yet for fear of being overwhelmed. I admire the ladies who are adept at this project like you. So patient and focused! So glad you’re enjoying sewing your quilt. Love the inktense tutorial. I have the pencils but looking at how easy you make it look with the watercolor, I’m thinking now perhaps watercolor is easier to use. Do you use Inktense pencils in any of your projects? Take care. Thank you for making videos and sharing your creativity and inspiring us.❤ And it’s good you’re in Instagram now, following you. 🌷tess

Pleased you liked the tutorial Tess. I do use the pencils but mostly take the colour off them with my brush to do fine painting. If I did paper books I think I'd use them to draw with more.

I've updated the video description to include a link to the Inktense blocks. The fabric is an old, white cotton sheet. The backing is a double sided paper backed web of glue. It's called Bondaweb in the UK. Or WunderUnder in other places. I've linked to that too in the video description.

If it gets muddy can you successfully paint over it when it dries?
@marionsworld24
@marionsworld24 3 ай бұрын
Yes you can. Once they've dried they won't reactivate so you can paint over the top with no problem. It doesn't lie on top either..so the cloth still feels like cloth..

Are these chalk pastels? Would chalk pastels work?
@marionsworld24
@marionsworld24 11 ай бұрын
They're not chalk pastels. They're a wax based ink that is water soluble. You can draw with them like crayons, or grate them into the water to use as a wash, or paint directly like watercolour. However, unlike watercolour, they're colour fast once dry. You can even paint the white one on top of colours and it will dry white. Especially with a couple of coats. They were developed for paper originally but I think they're great on fabric. Before I had them I just used to use acrylic paints though. You can get almost the same effect if you water it down.

Have you thought of trying to wet your fabric with a spritz bottle and then come in with your brush?
@marionsworld24
@marionsworld24 25 күн бұрын
It never wets it enough for me! I like the fabric to be really wet and then there's the bonus of extra colours on the paper that can be used too 🖌️
