I played MP8 with my mum, we were on Shy Guy's Express map, we got a Bowser space, and my mum had 0 stars, but her dice rolls kept landing on 10 , getting closer to Bowser, she grew nervous. She reached Bowser, and surprisingly she got 20 coins from him. One of my most memorable moments in Mario Party 8

I'd love to see the actual inner code myself, but I'm sure it just does the usual random number check. However, how is the RNG seed advanced? In a TAS, before the game is played, you'd see the person pause several times to get the right seed before landing on the space proving the RNG can't be manipulated during the game, but where it can be manipulated and calculated, you might be able to maybe figure out if it's worth going for it based on RNG seed value mental math. Heavily unlikely, but would make for an interesting TAS. Even though there are already "perfect Game" TASes that get max stars and coins.

I remember running into that owl when playing it at a friend's house (this is before I got my mom to get the game for me) and I remember playing it on a rather small screen, and I also remember sitting on a bed that was too far from the tv for me to be able to read the text. Combine that with my bad eyesight, and well... you probably got the idea of how that turned out.

mario party 3 is the one mario party game i have played for hundreds and hundreds of hours since it first came out, and i still play it to this day whether it be on my nintendo 64 or via emulator. and for some reason it is so satisfying seeing the little chomp winning because that’s one thing i have rarely seen in my life despite it having been the most common game guy game (in my experience) and having only seen the little chomp win like, a few times. the roulette game doesn’t impress me much but i guess it’s nice to see it land on shy guy while betting on the shy guy. but anyway, thank you for all the time and effort put into this video! 1000 times for the chain chomp one is wild!!

1:34 "You have the highest probability of getting a 7 if you roll both dice blocks." Um, yeah. Because the probability of you getting a 7 from rolling just one dice block is 0.00%. Also, Koopa = 30%, Bob-Omb = 25%, Goomba = 20%, Boo = 15%, Toad = 10% and Game Guy = 5%. That's...105%. Maybe the percentages were just rounded up for simplicity, but since there are 21 blocks divided between the 6 characters, the chances of victory would be slightly below the stated amounts. Still, glad this video exists. Sweet Surprise was the one I knew the least about (I never knew if Feed 'em Faster was a positive or negative quote, not that it matters). Disappointed you didn't show the x64 Little Chomp winning though.

I remember using a cheat to win the block puzzle minigame. All you had to do was hold down, and somehow the hand will place the blocks in good positions. Maybe you guys can test that trick in the MP3 block puzzle minigame.

If Game Guy rolls ahead of you but is below a 5, what are the odds that he rolls again? Is it a pure 50/50 chance? What if Game Guy initially rolls a 2 versus your 1? He's technically currently winning, but if he opts not to reroll, your own reroll will give you a 100% safe victory. Will he realize this, or is there a chance of him choosing no reroll in this case? In fact, the only time the reroll decision doesn't matter is when GG is leading with a 4. If GG is beating you with a 3 it's still advantageous for him to choose the reroll. Will he ever choose no reroll in this case too? Overall, assuming these flaws in Game Guy's logic exist, the odds of winning any amount of money in Lucky 7s is 64%, getting to play second and winning on ties are both quite advantageous for the player.

I've always despised Game Guy, but I really appreciate the extensive testing. Thank you for doing your part in advancing the Mario Party competitive meta. ;) Lucky 7 isn't bad. Tying Game Guy counts as a win, so safe play gives you an edge much of the time. If someone wants me to ceunch the numbers, I can. It's doable, but there are a lot of permutations to go through. I'm normally calm here. I groan in Magic Boxes. It's a 50 50 shot, so I take my coins and leave after 1 win, if I get one. Roulette has always fascinated me. I hate getting this in a board game, though. With 21 spots and 6 outcomes, coming out a winner is uncommon. Your chances of victory under the best of circumstances is 6 in 21, or a little better than 1 in 4. If you've got a lot of coins in a board game then this is a NIGHTMARE scenario. In Game Guy's room, however, this is a great game to get, because you have decent odds at a huge multiplier. I bet a small amount and try for Game Guy. A 1 in 21 shot at x64? In the VERY long run, that's tripling my money. Unfortunately, in the board game, long-term doesn't matter: you only have one shot. My advice is to keep careful track of the coin star lead and choose the multiplier that will get you that amount, or at least close to it. If you have a lot of coins, then just pick x2 for the highest odds of leaving with money, poor as those odds are. Unless the Coin Star is a factor in my decision, I pick the big chomp every time. I used to pick little chomp if the coin value was small, little chomp has a better message, and at x4 or x8 odds only. Now, only a shot at the coin star near the end of the game is the only thing that can convince me to try the under"dog." BTW, what is it that makes "Feed 'em faster!" a negative message? I always interpreted that as a positive one. I guess it doesn't really matter since the messages don't appear to have a significant effect on outcomes.

I agree. Game Guy is honestly not that bad, the worst part of Mario Party 3 without a doubt but it has its moments. Oh and yes, Mario Party 3 is one of the gold tier masterpieces of the Mario Party franchise. My favourite game in the series alongside 6.

i remember hearing from a friend that for the chain chomp event, each bite has a chance to proc (eat a part of the cake) depending on their multiplier. i.e: the x2 Chomp will always have a 1/2 chance of eating a piece of cake. the x4 chomp has a 1/4 chance of eating the cake, and so forth. again, this is just something i heard from a friend, so i have no real evidence to support this, but that same friend also told me the text didnt matter, which is evident in this video, so im inclined to believe them.

I think it’s more likely than not determined by a roll, then a sequence of the chomp that won the roll winning happens. It would be difficult to have probabilities for each bite give consistent enough odds for the multipliers. The math for that seems a bit messy to me. That said, I haven’t hacked into the game so it could be possible.

Or getting him from a hidden block with 0 coins. There is many possible outcomes. They are rare, they're funny, show them all! You could also show all rare events, like multiplaying Toads. Mario Party 3 mops the floor with the switch version. They made a game that's challenging for kids and fun for adults. And honestly, I think the random luck is a huge component that makes the game. It's not only a rush to win big, but also a check on better skilled players, keeping them from winning the game every time solely on mini games. (Also the duels are friggen savage).

The magic box minigame can be beaten: once the curtain closes, baby Bowser and Toad will begin changing places, once for every time the Shy Guy does a complete sommersault. For example: if Toad is on the left box, and the Shy Guy jumps once, then he’ll be on the opposite box. If the Shy Guy jumps twice, Toad will be on the same box (because he changed box twice)

I played Maro party 3 yesterday and got game guy on turn 2 (15 coins, minus 5 from buying the skeleton key and won the first mini game) Since i only had 15 i decided to bet on the little chomp (figured i could gain the coins back if I lost. Besides in spiny desert, i spend most of my game at Boo (Using reverse shrooms) Anyway the lil chomp was at x 8 so i went from 15 to 120, and then a couple turns later, lucky seven, i beat game guy, but did not get the 7th slot.(Ending the game with over 230 coins. and 11 stars. (With 6 stars being second place.)

Where's the FWOB commenter who explained the Chain Chomp minigame when you need them? Basically, each "bite" animation the Chomp makes is a chance to remove a bite from the cake, dependent on the multiplier. The small Chomp takes bites slightly faster but the big one is always x2 and is IIRC just fast enough to edge out the x4 small Chomp.

So as to the ultimate analysis to which one is best and which to hope for when it comes down to average's... (Note that for all of these when he just said random I assumed 50% and when he gave the range of chance on the chomps, I assumed it was a random percentage between them, so basically the middle value, also this is giving benefit of the doubt with the stairs...) Boxes (to no one's surprise) come in last at a x1 exchange rate, your choices aren't really significant). Overall Chomp is *1.98 if the different multipliers on little chomp are constant, specifically: Chomp (*4) is a *1.6 for picking the little chomp (*1.2 for big chomp) Chomp (*32) is a *1.89 for picking the big chomp (*1.76 for little chomp) Chomp (*64) is a *1.99 for picking the big chomp (*0.32 for little chomp) Chomp (*8) is a *2 for picking the little chomp (*1.5 for big chomp) Chomp (*16) is a *2.4 for picking the little chomp (*1.7 for big chomp) Roulette is approximately *3.05 on average if you pick Toad or Shyguy. I'm still working on stairs, it's pretty hard... Of course risking it all for lots of money isn't usually worth it so my personal favorites are (usually having 500 coins isn't worth it): Chomp: Hope for a high modifier on the little chomp and maybe unless it's *4, pick the big one Stairs: And if game guy falls off/ is below, only go for it if on 1 or 2 Boxes: This one sucks but it's not the worst for the safe road, hope you win the 50/50 and get out Wheel: Umm...somewhere between bob-omb and koopa, boo and higher is too low of chance to risk it, but your more likely to lose then win

I once got 999 coins from Game Guy (I think with Toad on the roulette). ...and I landed on another Game Guy space with 970-ish coins. So scary. But I managed to get a x2 result. ...okay, so technically I got 999 twice.

This isn't actually true, but I always imagined Toad's and Bowser's boxes had a one pixel size difference, and if I looked carefully at the beginning, I could tell which was which before the selection cursor skewed the size. I like to think I had a greater than 50% hit rate with this method.

I don’t know if this is worth a Rare Oddities video. But in Mario Party 3 if you get the wacky watch and use it at any point after the last five turns. (meaning when the game shows that there are four turns or less.) It actually takes you back in time to the last five turns (and it plays the last 5 turns event when you get there) meaning that if you use the wacky watch on the last turn you can get an extra five turns in the game. This means that Mario Party 3 is the only Mario Party that the possibility of having a game that is 55+ turns.(and yes if you get and use a second or third wacky watch you can prolong the game even further with this method.) Just wanted to say that if you do decided to do this as a video I would love to watch it. Also this series is amazing to watch it brings the game series to a new light for me and I love these games even more.

The same happened to me but on MP9, i was playing with my nephew and he was winning, so it was my turn and i landed on Bowser space, which i thought i lost for good, but when i got the "Lose half of your Mini-stars!", due to being last place, Bowser doubled my Mini-Star count, which helped me alot and i automaticly won in that match.

Something me and my brother found in game guy's roulette wheel is that if you're doing the challenge room the roulette has to land on each of the characters before resetting. Like it has to land on game guy, toad, boo, etc, once before resetting.

I lost a game of Mario Party 3 to my friend landing on Game Guy. He had 27 coins and got the stair step game. He landed on like 4 or 5 and asked me if he should go for the 7. "YOLO" he says and lands on 7 and gets 270 coins. What is even better is that it was the last 5 turns of the game so there so NO HOPE of me coming back from that. He got the Happening Star, Mini Game Star, and I think the Coin Star.

From what I know the multiplier is the biggest clue on maybe choosing the small Chomp but I feel the message does have an effect on it on ×4 or ×8.

I've seen a very specific occurence happen a LOT: even on x4 odds on the small Chomp, if the big one has the "like mushrooms better" message when the small one has anything but FOOD, FOOD, it will ALWAYS be a fakeout where it looks like the small Chomp will win, with only having the last tier of the cake to eat when the big one's only eaten the first tier, then suddenly the small Chomp stalls and the big Chomp devours the rest of his cake. And I mean, I've seen it on even CPUs, in and out of Story Mode, on the duel boards too, with medals or the board space... It's happened often enough that I consider the big Chomp with the mushroom message a sure win. Also not something I've ever seen lose: small FOOD FOOD Chomp against a stomachache big Chomp. I've won even my x32 bets when those texts happened. But that last one might just be sheer luck, since it's too rare for it to happen for me to have a good sample size. Could just have been my luck...

He never said 35%, and his percentages are approximations. The true chances are 6/21 (29%), 5/21 (24%), 4/21 (19%), 3/21 (14%), 2/21 (9%), and 1/21 (4%).

I remember getting cheated out of a win by that little x64 chomp. I think it was literally the only time i've ever seen him win (at that multiplier) after a few hundred hours of gameplay and my jaw dropped to the floor. Also CPU Peach winning game guy twice at unlikely odds in one duel and getting 999 coins. Honestly I love game guy, as infuriating as it can be I think it was a good addition to Mario Party and is one of the many reasons why 3 is the best imo.

I have a Rare Oddities request. In Mario Party 3 if you land on an item space, there is a chance that Toad or baby bowser will ask the player a question for an item. what are the chances that toad or baby bowser won't give the player an item and getting a super rare item?

From what i know with the Chain chomps the multipier is just to show how often they'll eat the cake. So x2 means 1/2 bites hell attempt to eat the cake with a coin flip to decide if it succeeds. So x64 is just 1/64 bites the chomp will attempt to eat the cake with a heavily weighted coin flip in favor of missing.

There was this one time where me and my friend were playing Mario Party 3 via Parsec and I got the Roulette. I picked the x8 multiplier for a riskier bet. ...The game chose the x64 multiplier. You can only imagine how shocked and mad I was.

On the wheel, toad and game guy are the best values given your odds of hitting them vs payout....of course, they're the toughest to hit, so temper your expectations. I know you'll feel the bigger sections are 'safe', but they're actually real awful value

Yeah man, I already knew Cake Surprise was the easiest Game Guy minigame to win. I figured that out from playing Mario Party 3 many times and realized I tend to win in that one the most compared to the other 3. I am not gonna purposely land on Game Guy's space even with the extra info you have given watchers. I hate his guts so much. Lol

I was actually on the last turn of the game, i had about 10 coins and landed on game guy. I was behind by a star and while was gonna get the mini-game star (Chance time had lost me all my coins) I knew i was not gonna be getting the coin star. So i decided to bet on game guy (Figuring go big or go home) The wheel spun and i went from 10 to 640, grabbing the coin star and mini-game star.

Was that game footage a game above 50 turns? I know that you have an option to customize the turns in 3, and that’s an absurd amount of stars and coins, even for a 50 turn game with save states. Aside from that, I always hated the Chomp game because it felt like the multiplier and the text for the chomps meant very little. As much as the roulette is an absolute crap shot, I kinda wish it would’ve come up more frequently in the game. You’re already gambling on nonsense anyway, and a x4 or x8 multiplier that are each 20% or above doesn’t seem like that bad of a gamble. Could very easily be a game-changer, even for someone seriously behind, as long as there’s still a few turns left.

Is it just me or is the roulette especially rare to even get. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone get the roulette when landing on a game guy space when I play.
