@@dionwoollaston5717 I think in the game’s reality, the praetorians have grown fat and decadent under Nero’s rule, and considering the savagery they display, it’s possible that the guard is filled more with thugs loyal to the emperor rather than soldiers tempered by war. After all, the regular legionaries don’t seem to hold the guard with much respect outside the bare minimum, and if the guard was made up of war hero’s, then they wouldn’t have gone around bullying civilians for a bit of fun.

What I always wondered about the coliseum is how the announcer managed to shout loud enough for the people in the upper stands to hear him, logically the bowl shape of the stadium should reverberate the sound around it or the people who do hear it repeat what he says to the punters behind him. As far fetched as it would be could any experts in ancient roman architecture please correct/inform me as to the how and why?

The Greeks used limestone seats for this. Not sure if this applies to Romans as well though. From a LiveScience article: “Now, researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology have discovered that the limestone material of the seats provide a filtering effect, suppressing low frequencies of voices, thus minimizing background crowd noise. Further, the rows of limestone seats reflect high-frequencies back towards the audience, enhancing the effect.”

Also the Colosseum was made in the shape of two elongated odeons, so the sound would have travelled easily. If you've ever visited ancient Greek ruins and found the remains of any odeon, you'll find that when standing on the stage at it's center, you barely have to speak and anyone at the very top back row can hear you loud and clear.

The Colosseum is too big for anyone to be heard without modern amplification. I'm sure the speaker spoke mostly for the patricians in the first rows next to him, and for the other spectators, there were some visual and audio signals (like banners and trumpets) that would anticipate fights and give a pace to the events. More or less as it used to happen in wars (the whole general giving a speech to an entire army is an invention of the modern age).

The way I see it, is that the story of Ryse: Son of Rome is that of a Roman myth. And the details of a myth tend to become altered over the course of history.
