That whole segment about the Marine nearly drowning during the river crossing... So typical of the Marines, man. "We built you tough so you're just going to have to tough your way through stuff we didn't teach you." Chalk it up as a temporary/unforeseen contingency that we ooh-rah'd our way through and won't apply toward training during workups next time around. As an FMF Corpsman I was consistently motivated by the sheer will of my Marines, God Bless the Devil Dogs.

It takes a certain level of mental strength to do, see, hear, smell, and feel the things these men do and come out of it with the ability to be gentle-spoken and kind. Thank you, Ryan, for sharing and showing us what that looks like. Thank you, Mike for having him on. 💪

My brother took the alternative route about 6 months ago. Everything has been so hard since i got that call. He went to afghanistan during the pull out. He told me so many horrible stories. I wont go into that in a KZbin comment section. I miss him every day. I don’t care if this comment changes even one person’s mind. Please don’t do it. We all loved him so goddamn much. Semper fidelis. Kfg.

I’d didn’t serve and it was and is one of the biggest regrets in my life but we need our vets now more than ever. My generation was the backbone of those wars and the younger generations are not the same caliber of human. Bad times are coming and the older generations are going to have to step up when the chaos begins. Myself included. I hope that the veterans know their country will need them more than ever even if our government doesn’t treat them as such.

The donkey story was absolutely as profound as you made it out to be. I felt the same way, it just adds another layer of sadness to the destruction caused by war. Literally no form of life is safe from the consequences. Thank you so much for sharing your story and thank you for your service

Great to hearbfrom a grunt. The GWOT has been so SOF centric when it comes to outlets like this that i think the average person doesnt realize the level of fighting the some of our Marines and soldiers got up to.

There's regular grunts with way more combat time than some "operator"
@MrCashewkitty7 ай бұрын
@@Robert-ky4vx I was in and out before GWOT but I was always enamored with all the grunt work and field training. It's weird to me that people now perceive war as fighting an insurgency, landing on the X, and kicking in the doors of cavemen
@Robert-ky4vx7 ай бұрын
@@MrCashewkitty it's what the podcasters are inviting on their shows because its what the people want. Apparently being "Conventional forces" means you were nothing but fodder to civilians, but at the same time SOF are badass dudes and do have that mystique about them. Talking about fast insertion raids sounds way cooler than talking about that patrol you went on and nothing happened for the first 4 hours , it is also imperative that the average Joe doesn't get washed to the history books as a less capable warrior.

Great point on Sherman Tecumseh method of totally depraved war. In war, rules are only for the naive. Recently, the bombs dropped on Japan have been a point of controversy. I understand both sides. I think we need to carry a big stick and speak softly. When to keep the sword in its sheath, and when to show restraint.

I don't feel so alone now with the whole sleep seizure thing. I brought it up to the VA but I feel like they don't take me seriously and tried blaming it on sleep apnea. I don't really have sleep apnea unless I get really stressed out or when my anxiety is at an all time high and thats usually when I get the sleep seizures. And it's not even really obstructive sleep apnea, I get central sleep apnea where my brain isnt sending signals to my lungs to breath. But when i'm feeling fine I don't get any sleep apnea at all.
