Marjan Kozina (4 June 1907 - 19 June 1966), born in Novo Mesto (then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire). He is considered one of the most important Slovene composers of the 20th century. The Great Hall of the Slovenian Philharmonic in Ljubljana, was re-named in his honor in 2008. Bela Krajina (White Carniola) is a symphonic poem composed in 1946. It later became the third movement of Kozina's only symphony, and is one of the most popularly performed of his compositions. White Carniola is a region in southeastern Slovenia on the border with Croatia. During World War II, it was an important center of anti-Fascist resistance in Slovenia. Bela Krajina is actually the third movement of Kozina's symphony (the other three being 1. Ilova gora, 2. Padlim and 4. Proti morju).
