Out of all of the handguns that I own, I can honestly say that this is my favorite handgun... a classic that I keep going back to. This gun runs amazing suppressed as well. Currently running the rugged suppressors obsidian 45 and it really does level the gun out so much to where hitting 3 inch hanging AR500 steel targets are a breeze and most importantly.... consistent target connection.

I have the Mk23 little brother the HK USP EXPERT 45 I would love to see these together to compare sizes that would be interesting. I think my expert model is really practical I just wish people made more accessories like holsters I had one made for my duty rig. I also wish HK would make a Jetfunnel for it with higher capacity 45acp mags.

Todd, HK Parts makes a 17-round, steel magazine for the Mk 23. It is the German HK 12-rounder with a "+5 bottom" made specifically for the Mk 23. $120 each - expensive, yes, but well worth it, in my opinion..!!

I have been using SolumTool + 3 baseplate spring kits for 15rnds but will check those out. Now I hate Promag but my friend took their 20rnd mag replaced the follower with a HK one and has excellent success no issues yet he has around 500rnds down range. I might get one just to piss off the libs.

Todd, You might check with HK Parts Store. They make 17-round, "extended", ultra-high-capacity, .45 ACP magazines for the Mark 23. Love 'em to death - they work extremely well. I glued little rubber "feet" on the aluminum bottoms (with "gorilla glue") to protect them, should I ever drop the mag onto a hard surface (concrete, etc), especially when loaded.
@johnyoungs7453
@johnyoungs7453 Жыл бұрын
Todd, the only real "external" difference is the Mk 23 has a 1" longer barrel & slide. Internally, all the parts in a Mk 23 are bigger, thicker, longer, "beefier", etc. when compared to any of the other HK pistols chambered in .45ACP.

Nowadays, it'd be hard to pass up a Glock 19. Everyone has one. Magazines (along with the 17 ) are literally everywhere. Spare parts are extremely easy to obtain. However, the Mark 23 is a gun that will never fail you. Worse comes to worse, the KAC can can be used as a baton
@johnyoungs7453
@johnyoungs7453 Жыл бұрын
@@rustyshackleford17 Rusty, keep in mind one thing about Glocks in general: True, nobody "plans" on having their gun snatched away from them in a struggle. But, it can happen. Are you aware of the fully documented fact that just over 80% of the law enforcement officers annually, who have ended up getting shot with their own guns, were carrying Glocks..? The Glock has no "proprietary" safety, like a 1911. That little "trigger within the trigger" thingy is a "passive" safety - designed to prevent the gun from firing should it ever be dropped on it's muzzle. I'm 69 years old, and while I certainly don't plan on having my gun grabbed away from me in a struggle, I'm also not so stupid as to think "That could never happen to me..!" The point being (and this is EXACTLY why I will never own or carry a Glock), is that if someone ever gets that gun away from you & decides to shoot you with it (assuming there's a round chambered to begin with), you are well and truly fucked...!! A well-known gun writer, as well as being both a field and courtroom expert on these matters, Massad Ayoob, many years ago, conducted a "field experiment" wherein he took a fair number of folks who had never handled a pistol before, sat them down, and handed each person an unloaded 1911 that had it's hammer cocked and it's slide safety placed "on". Each person was asked to figure out how to depress the trigger and "fire" the gun. It took the average person 25 seconds to figure out how to deactivate the safety and drop the hammer..! That's plenty of time to seek cover, pull out a backup gun, or both. I carry my HK Mk 23 "cocked & locked". I also carry a 5-shot S&W Model 49 Bodyguard revolver in a right side jacket pocket holster, and loaded with .38Spcl, 110-gr.+P+, h/p rounds. I'm just giving you this little bit of insight merely as "food for thought"..!

ToolTech Gunsight of Oxford, Michigan, installs custom Tritium night sights on the Mk 23. I carry a Mk 23 - concealed - with no problem. Remember, an empty Mk 23 weighs in at 39 oz. An empty 1911 weighs in at 42 oz. Doesn't seem so "huge" now, does it..??

Do you think it'll run in the harsh arctic environment of Shadow Moses? The Mk. 23 is one of the few H&K pistols that I love but have no desire to ever pay for or feed. Hilariously big, a questionable purchase at best, but I still love it and appreciate the engineering behind it. It's one of those classic Video Game / Movie Guns that just makes you feel good whenever you see it. Still no desire to pay for one anytime soon. Maybe if we ever win the lottery. :)

I get that completely. I feel a lot faster with the USP 45, but the MARK 23 is just a house with a can on it. I'm eager to try it with a can and a surefire X300UB. Should keep it hyper flat with 230gr. IT shoots really smooth, but a lot of reciprocating mass. The USP45T is just easier to use overall. But I'm happy I bought the MARK 23 when I did.

Reker.A, I don't blame you. The USP series are just fine. Look into the USP "Elite" pistol in .45. A LONG barreled gun (6.1" compared to 5.9" with the Mk 23), with a lot of the features of both the Mk 23 as well as the USP "Tactical .45", but at half the cost. An excellent choice, I think..!!
@FirearmTutorials
@FirearmTutorials 5 жыл бұрын
100% correct in your statement. The USP45T is an awesome gun. One of the best out there. The Mark23 is in a league of its own. Don't get the Tirant! It was my first can and I wouldn't buy it again. And you're not really going to run it in a "short" configuration. It gets louder and you still can't get it in a holster unless you use one of those "look at me" suppressor holsters. I like the Octane because it's a more durable can and easy to clean. I wouldn't get caught up on which one is quieter either. Once you start shooting suppressed, the gun will get so damn dirty you'll think twice once you realize you have to clean the can and pistol. Forget shooting wet, you end up looking like coal miner. I still shoot my HKs suppressed but only about 1/3 of the time.
@navyman8903
@navyman8903 5 жыл бұрын
That's good info, the coal miner thing is relatable and I completely understand what you're saying. I shot the Octane on the HK45 and it shot well, in that tale of 2 HK45's video. I was going to run it in the short configuration on the MARK 23 but you might be right and I may never run it like that. We'll see. I'm going to see if they'll let me run their Octane 45 on my MARK 23 to give it a run.

@@navyman8903 The Tirant is lighter, but not light enough to make a huge difference. The Octane has a cheaper 3-lug adapter. They also have the ASR mounts. I have a few 300BO guns that I use a 9mm Octane when shooting subsonic BO. It's the lightest rifle can setup and works great. I haven't used the Deadair cans but have heard really good things about them. I think those are the ones that will actually work with suppressor mounts from a few different companies.
@paraord1410
@paraord1410 2 жыл бұрын
Also, don't discount the USP "Elite", as well. LONG barrel (6.1" compared to 5.9" for the Mk 23), making the USP "Elite" "THE" longest barreled pistol in the HK lineup..! And, most of the great features of the USP and the Mk 23 are still there, as well. Remember, a lot of folks are under the impression that the USP pistols have "plastic" triggers - they don't - they're steel, but covered with a polymer coating, so they give you the impression that they're plastic triggers, but in reality, they're not.

Good to see Jessica out strutting again. I was thinking maybe you two had a falling out. I have the same H&K MK 23. I love it . It fits My big meat hooks to a "T". Up here in Canada we aren't allowed more than 10 rds and unable to carry in any form. Some very rare exceptions.And absolutely no cans. Damn bastards. I seem to be able to shoot the MK 23 very well, not much recoil or muzzle flip. I do think that is because it fits my hands so well. It only sees 230 grn FMJ, Pretty much all we can get here. I chose this gun for H&K reliability and the fact it is an over built tank that will not fail. So far I have been consistent at 50 yds and getting better at 100 yds. 7,15. 20 yrds, well you know how it eliminates targets at those yards. It made me love H&K so much as soon as I picked up the H&K 45 full size, well it was almost like it it was custom molded for my hand, and it shoots so well. And that's your fault after seeing your vid on it. THANKS. (Keep them coming) Well when CHAOS takes over and all the cops and armies have gone to protect there families These 2 weapons will be with me. Till then just having some fun in the great white North. Love your vids DD great sense of humor, great info THANKS AGAIN.

Dave N, look into getting the Hornady "Critical Defense" load in .45ACP. It's not considered a hollow point round as the bullet "nose cavity" is filled up with a special "gel" compound that causes the bullet to expand after it hits. Great stuff..!! Gun owners in states like New Jersey, etc, can legally own & carry it as it's not considered a hollow point round, but it performs just like a hollow point bullet. Available in a host of calibers. It was originally invented for use in "blue states" (demoncratically-controlled) that had outlawed those "nasty, Nazi hollow point bullets" as these rounds from Hornady are not considered h/p ammo..!! Dunno if that'll help Canadians or not, but good luck..!!

Tooltech can do some custom irons for you. be aware, they are on the slow side of things. Double any estimated time of service. The HK Parts compensator is awesome toy, but they're asking too much for it (granted, it is a $2000 gun) Ultimately, the mounting system is the problem you'll run into with the light. Everyone's mount is just way to bulky and makes every modern light sit too far forward and too low....and then you'll have find trying to find a holster for it. Try shooting some 45 Super through the gun. It is shockingly pleasant to shoot. If you're able to, I would get the KAC can. The can is still holds it's own with the modern one. Besides, you can use it as a nightstick if need be. I'm waiting for my stamp for mine. It's also the only can HK will warranty with it. Others are the Osprey (oldie but goodie). If you're wanting a modern can, get the Obsidian 45. Great sound suppression, great durability, and it's user serviceable! People love making fun of the gun, until you put it right next to a 1911.While you get a bit of thickness, you get a lot more in capacity. Unfortunately, the size of this gun prevents it from everyday use. The mark 23 is one of the few guns that everyone ends up shooting better with.

Here’s a question: Given the durability, reliability, and service life of my HK45, is the MK23 still markedly more durable? I’m very tempted to get one because I think they’re just an iconic and badass gun, plus they’re legal for deer hunting here, but I’m also extremely confident with my basic HK45. Is the MK23 worth $2,000 if I already have an HK45?
@navyman8903
@navyman8903 2 жыл бұрын
That is going to be up to you for sure. I think the HK45 or HK45T is a much more practical, useable, and much more size efficient vs the MARK23. But the MARK23 is bomb proof. Also amazing suppressed. They have shot up in price so I'm glad I have mine. I'm not sure if I would buy it with today's prices. I paid 300 less.

I think so, yes. If for no other reason than the darn thing is rugged as hell and built to carry it's owner into the mouth of hell and back - and survive in the process. By the way: for those of you who aren't "enamored" of the Mk 23's "limited, 12-round" magazine capacity, HK Parts offers 17-round (12-rounders with longer springs & "+5" bottoms) magazines meant specifically for the Mk 23. They work wonderfully..!! I added some rubber bottoms to them as the bottoms they're using are aluminum. You also get your choice of bottom colors: red, blue, nat. silver, and black. Yes, they're not cheap: $120 each, but well worth the money, I think. I carry in a vertical shoulder rig with a 12-rounder under my left arm, and a pair of 17-rounders under my right side, along with a S&W Model 49 Bodyguard .38spcl revolver in my coat pocket for a backup, if needed. 110-gr, .38spcl "+P+" hp (the so-called "FBI load") loads in it, and along with a couple extra 5-shot speed loaders.

@@navyman8903 $300 less is not "much" of a reduction when you're talking about what is essentially a "$2,500 gun". A used one can be had for your value - if you can afford a "$2,200 Mk 23", you can afford a $2,500 gun. Just sayin'...!

I’d look at mk23 holsters made for the airsoft community. You can buy one of those and use it and I’d bet it would work fine while being more updated and 4x cheaper then a mk23 holster made 40 years ago.

Antonio Glascoe Would those holsters work well with a real HK MARK 23?
@antonioglascoe5912
@antonioglascoe5912 5 жыл бұрын
Christian Dorsey I’m confident they would. Airsoft guns are replicas designed to the same specifications of their real gun counterparts. Which means the real Mk23 should fit fine in a airsoft holster. Quality of the holster should be fine as well, I would not expect it to fall apart. You could also look into getting a custom holster made. Like those plastic ones that are pre cut to fit just your mk23. You can find this for the airsoft community as well the real life mk23 community I’m sure.

Its really too bad manufacturers aren't bringing such firearms to market at sensible prices as they would sell 1000x more. This gun probably cost a very little more to make than any other HK hammer fired product.

H&K has always had that "elitist" attitude with the civilian market. Upside is that you get a gun that you can buy that'll work out of the box and you can buy any new product from them that won't have issues at the start. I'm sure there is a high markup on the gun, but it truly is an awesome gun to shoot.

Well if you compare the usp series vs the Mk23, you'll see more works gone into the 23. I'd wager that while the usp will last you a lifetime, the Mk23 will last you 2 lifetimes.

That's because of the dual-spring, recoil-reducing aspect of the recoil spring assembly as used in the Mk 23.

Hey man, hope you see this. I just picked up a new Mk23 today. And my safety is incredibly hard to flip on, I have to use two hands. Easy to flip off though. Does this break in over time? Strangely, if I hold the hammer back with my thumb, past where it naturally locks back... the safety is very easy to flip on and off

You need to have the gun looked at by a gunsmith who knows HK firearms. I own three of these, and none of them has or has ever had that problem. If the gun is new & still under warranty, let HK know about it..!!

Out of production - they had a lot of problems with accuracy upon firing. I went with the Matchweight steel compensator - yeah, it adds 12oz (3/4 of a pound...!!) to j front of the gun (now, it really does become "a beast"..!!) , but, it also allows you to rapid fire 230gr, +P ammunition - and that's great..!!
