Got mine for 1800$. Dealer said it was “used” hardly a blemish on the barrel cycling wise. Guy probably put 50 rds through it and said “this things too big”. I couldn’t even smell the cordite in the chamber. So nostalgic and it was my wish for a safe queen. From action movies and such but, it was Metal Gear Solid that put this pistol on my map when I was a kid. Just such a sick and cool piece. So happy I finally got it and appreciate it. Good review man.

That comp was removed from the market because of accuracy issues with it attached. The only current (production) compensator that is available for the Mk 23 is the all-steel comp from MatchWeight. At 12oz, it's by no means light-weight. However, it will enable you to rapid-fire +P and +P+ ammunition with a relatively high degree of accuracy. Currently. $350, not incl. shipping.
@johnyoungs74532 жыл бұрын
You can't get that comp anymore. HK screwed up on its design & it had barrel/muzzle interaction issues resulting in accuracy problems. Currently, since the HK Mk 23 comp has been pulled from the market, you can still get the "MatchWeight" all-steel, 12-oz comp.which comes with its own Allen wrench that you'll need to attach it. It's "$350" from MatchWeight, not incl. shipping.

Ordered the gun for Black Friday at a great deal on 11-29-24. I own Desert Eagles and many other iconic pistols. I was going to get a Stribog 45 until I heard many ppl say the magazines that come with the firearm are garbage. I prefer 45 ACP for shooting and EDC, however I do own 9mm firearms as well. There are only 2 pistols(45 ACP) that have eluded me over the years. I was outbid on a CZ 97BD(discontinued), that went for over 1400. I couldn't justify spending over that much for that gun. The second gun was the Mark 23, I happened to randomly look up deals for that gun on Black Friday and saw the best price. I couldn't believe it, brand new. Everyone was asking 2500 except two places. A FFL on GunBroker was asking 2150 plus a 4% 💳 charge and Sportsmans Outdoor Superstore was asking 2019. After taxes and shipping 2164, couldn't resist the deal. Can't wait to suppress it.

No thread protector installed, but it's in the nice, aluminum, "lockable", attache'-type case with the red "Hk" logo on it...!! Gun & two 12-round mags. :-)
@johnyoungs74532 жыл бұрын
Sam Kun: Not really a "special edition", but the two essential differences between them were: (1), It came without a muzzle "thread" protector screwed onto the end of the barrel. "$20" for a replacement if wanted. (2), It also comes without that stupid "bullshit" "gun lock" located in the bottom, rear-portion of the inside of the grip. With the standard "American" gun, it comes with the lock. If you ever had to grab the gun, unlock that lock with the little tiny "key" that comes in a separate little plastic "ziplock" plastic bag located underneath that little foam "pullout" square piece located within the case, you'll find the key there. With a "panic" situation at hand, do you REALLY think that with the adrenaline that's been dumped into your bloodstream, you'll actually have any meaningful "fine-motor-skills" left with which to insert that tiny "key" into that tiny "lock" & be able to rotate it & unlock your gun & then shoot it ok in a self-defense scenario...?? The first thing I did when I bought my first ("American") Mk 23 was to order a replacement polymer "block" from HK Parts (for $10) & swap the two items out. Just drive out that little pin with a suitable little pin punch & a small, soft mallet, replace the "lock block" with the one that's blank, replace the pin, & you're done..!! & Throw that damned "key" out...!! (Make a note in your operator's manual that you did this so that anyone else in the future doesn't think that that lock is still installed...). I now have three of these Mk 23's..!! Two "Euro" guns purchased from "The Attic" ("Sportsman's Loft") in North Dakota, & one "American" (now a "lockless" gun) Mk 23 that's also got a 12-oz, steel, "MatchWeight" compensator on the front of the muzzle area of the frame. Nose-heavy as hell, but wonderful for rapid-firing +P, & +P+, .45ACP, .45Super, & DoubleTap.450 SMC ammo from..!! I'm trying to find someone who will forge & machine for me, a finished .460 Rowland barrel for that gun. I'm not holding my breath, but THAT would make for one fantastic carry (vertical shoulder rig) or "house" gun..!! Can you imagine getting shot with a .460 Rowland, 350-gr. H/P bullet smashing into you at around 1,600 fps...?? Ya.....!! :-(

Got the classic HK padded/zippered deployment bag too. Put the whole shabang away in the safe, then proceeded to get a severe case of 'analysis paralysis' while shopping for a suppressor. Here it is, two years later and my Rugged Obsidian 45 suppressor is out of NFA jail and I just took the very first shots with my Mark 23, suppressed, as the HK gods intended. 😄 So, did you keep yours?

The purpose for double-action triggers like the one on the Mk 23 is for rapid-fire when you need it (trust me - with the adrenaline in your system, you won't notice an 11 or 12-lb trigger pull...) and reliable, solid, and heavy primer strikes. Those of you who like to criticize the DA triggers on these guns I think tend to forget these aspects of the DA system as it was designed.

@@MDpolo True, but you know, if you can get used to carrying it in a ("properly-fitted": remember, along with the holster itself, comes the harness with which it's attached. In other words, it's actually a "garment". And like any garment, it needs to be properly "fitted" to your upper body shape in order to work well, and feel comfortable...) shoulder holster, even a large gun like a large-frame, 6" bbl'd revolver can be carried quite comfortably. The thing I really like about shoulder rigs, however, is the fact that the gun can be carried and drawn with no effort from either the standing or the sitting position. No more having to become a "contortionist" in order to draw that gun from an awkward or hard-to-reach position and, possibly "telegraphing" your intentions to a possible bad guy or bad guys. With a properly-fitted shoulder rig, in most cases, you can actually have your gun hand ON THE GUN, safety off, finger just outside the trigger guard, ready to draw, without anyone else realizing it. That is among the many "essential" reasons why I like shoulder rigs so well. Sure, you can carry a backup gun just about anywhere else - my son, for example, carries his (a S&W M49 Bodyguard revolver in .38 Special +P) in his jacket pocket, in a holster fitted for the inner shape of the pocket. No matter how and/or where you carry, all locations on your body are "compromises" in gun accessibility, to varying degrees. Some are personal preferences, and some are chosen out of necessity. Mine just so happens to be in a fitted shoulder holster, which also gives me the added benefit of being able to conceal a large-frame handgun quite well. If I'm making a quick trip to the store or some other close-by location and then home again, I'll carry an aluminum-framed, compact 3" bbl'd ParaOrd Warthog (P-10) with 11 rounds of 230gr+P HP (Win. Ranger "T") ammo in a pants or jacket pocket. But for any other excursions away from home, my shoulder rig becomes my desired "go to" method of carry, along with my HK Mk23.

Watched your otherwise excellent video again - I bought one of my two Mk 23's from "The Attic" (Sportsman's Lodge). Funny thing about the "European gun" compared to the Mk 23 destined for the American Market: (1), The "American" gun comes with a muzzle thread protector - the "European gun" does not. (2), The "American" gun comes with a lock located within the bottom, rear portion of the inside of the grip. The "European" gun does not. For those who have an "American" gun with the lock, for approx $10 from HK Parts, you can buy the little polymer "block" that replaces the block with the locking mechanism, and they're very easy to install - just drive out the little pin at the bottom of the grip, and swap one block for the other. The muzzle thread protector will run you around $20, but I strongly advise people who own these guns - if you buy a "European" gun, they do not come with one - put one on, anyway. It will protect the threads against damage caused by physical contact with any hard object, and prevent carbon and soot buildup on the threads, should you ever wish to install a suppressor. Finally, in your video, you tell people at the beginning of your video, that the width of the frame is "5-point something inches" 5 inches wide ..?? Either of mine aren't even close to that..! I assume that's an oversight - an "oops"...?? You might wish to correct that. Cheers... - JY

Absolutely keep this gun. HK only makes a few of these guns at a time before forgetting that they made them. SOCOM received this gun as a complete weapons system. The suppressor was the "SOCOM Mk23" made by Knights Armament, and is the ONLY one suitable for this gun. The laser & light unit is the Phase 1 HK/Wilcox Nightstalker LAM of Metal Gear game lore. Further development and refinement of the system resulted in the more common Phase 2 (AN/PEQ6 LM45) LAM made by Insight. Please do follow up videos when you acquire both the KAC suppressor and the LAM.

@johnyoungs74532 жыл бұрын
These guns are still being produced, but only approx. 200 units a year are being imported into the US. They sell, but because of their cost, they're naturally not selling very fast compared to the HK USP .45's, which sell for approx. half the price.
@jamescampbell4334 Жыл бұрын
The KAC suppressor only knocks around 22db off the sound pressure of 45 ACP. Takes 158db down to around 136db. NOT hearing safe. The Rugged Obsidian 45 suppressor knocks 29db off. Takes 158db down to 129db. Hearing safe. That's a 7db difference in sound pressure between the two suppressors. The db scale is logarithmic, every 3db increase is a DOUBLING of sound pressure. That 7db increase of the KAC suppressor over the Rugged is a doubling of the Rugged Obsidian sound signature TWICE over. The KAC can is great for collectors and larpers. The Rugged can (quietest 45 can on the market) is the one to own if you actually plan on shooting a Mark 23 regularly.

Only mistake in your video is relating to availability, as I type this, there are at least 20 available on Gunbroker, so really not considered rare. One point you didn't mention in your video, and what I believe is a great example of the strength of this pistol is, during testing, they actually jammed a bullet in the barrel and fired another round, which knocked out the jammed in bullet, and still the pistol shot afterwards resulting in minimal loss if accuracy. Normally if that was to happen to a pistol it would result in the destruction of the pistol. Other than that, pretty good video..

Thank you very much for pointing that out. The test that you mention has been performed in more than one model of handgun by HK. Thanks for watching.

That's my point: the gun is built tough. You could run a frigging tank over it & not hurt it, other than perhaps scratching the finish. Not many guns can say that..!! :-)

Sick Boy: You said it..! All these a-holes on GunBroker who're telling you that "the Mk 23 is rare (or "hard to get or hard to find...")". B/S...!! You can find 'em everywhere. Yes, they're more "rare" than other lesser-priced guns. But "rare" they're certainly NOT...!

Interesting pistol, but far too large for me.

It sure is a very large pistol. But it’s awesome!

@@MDpolo I think it would be even more awesome if it had a longer grip. That would make it more ergonomic and provide more capacity. But the company is HK, not JC.

Not cheap, was slammed on another youtube channel as being.."THE US MILITARY's BIGGEST MISTAKE".............

Was a bunch of bs. It excelled and more at everything they wanted it to, but it's too big, too heavy, too unwieldy, blah blah blah. I carry one of these every day and I have no idea what they're talking about. Its comfortable, not hard to conceal on the hip at either 3 or 9 o clock, or if you get a vertical shoulder holster for it. Fits my hands fine and I have average sized hands. They act like it's a desert eagle, which I could at least understand a little. Just seems real nitpicky.

I wouldn’t agree with that whatsoever. The statement made by that KZbin channel is not backed by the military’s own data. Is it a big gun? It sure is, but there are tens of thousands of people in this country that conceal larger weapons. Thank you very much for watching.

Coming late to the party but, if you believe Glock is the standard then yeah this gun sucks. However every cool and/or necessary detail one would expect on a current pistol was a standard on the USP40 that started development in 1991. A mistake? Maybe. But the “military’s biggest mistake?” Not even close! The M14 takes the honors for that role.

In 45 ACP I would choose a P220, or Wilson Combat, or Nighthawk, or Les Baer, or Ed Brown over a Mark 23 any day.

Well, the Mark 23 can shoot tens of thousands of 45 SMC and 45 Super ammo without falling apart. This is from someone who owns a few P220s and a Wilson Combat. If I only had time to pull one handgun from my safe due to evacuation due to an emergency, it would be the Mark 23. Different horses for different courses.
