Wow this was 4 days ago?! I just watch Sorry again for the first time in years. Appleyard was always my favorite skater growing up after watching Sorry. He has this supernatural ability to absorb shock and momentum to make everything he does look fluid and easy. His part in Sorry was like poetry in motion I think.

I met Appleyard during 2021 Tampa Pro at The Bricks in Ybor. He was outside in the back ripping a cig with a buddy. I nervously went up to him and told him he’s my top skate ever. He was really appreciate and I apologized for bothering him and asked for a quick picture. He put his cig down to take the pic and gave me a great one. After I nervously said thanks and walked away but I could tell he would’ve kept chatting w me. Appleyard is THE MAN

I just noticed that of all the tricks he did on the gap out to down rail at the el Toro post office, he did the easiest one with the worst style: the frontside boardslide. For some reason, I had it in my head that he did it super smooth, but I guess that would be a kinda hard trick to make it look good on that obstacle. Regardless, when he went back in his next part he did an absolutely immaculate backside lipslide. Not only did it look beautiful, but that was probably the most gnarly trick possible on that thing. You know it’s gnarly because Daniel Harold Sturt took a photo of it, and he literally told Jamie Thomas and Geoff Rowley not to call him for a photo unless there was a possibility of them dying on the trick. Nice guy.
