Mark is excellent as usual... I like his analysis of how Europe will align with China if Americans screw up green transition...

The PRC is building an average of 2 coal plants per week, more than the rest of the world combined. You call that "green"?

Their share of renewables for the world as of 2023 was 35%. They account for at least a third of the worlds production. You ever seen the US military military expenditure compared to the world? That’s how Chinas renewable capacity looks. They produced 1453 gW of renewable in 2023. The next 9 countries combined don’t even add up to that.

@@DUCKSAREEVILLLLLLLL I’ll be objective yes they still use a lot of other sources for energy but they still are the world leaders in renewables and it will dwarf the rest of the world for some time. Their EV market alone is leaps and bounds ahead of everyone else. They have a monopoly of EV battery technology as well

Europe is already taking the possibility of Trump and the US pulling out of NATO seriously.

One issue I wonder about is Japan, Germany and China have labor shortages, lack energy supplies and are the 2-4 largest economies in the world, how do they plan to proceed?

The really interesting thing about Germany is that it decided to shut down and mothball all its nuclear power stations. When the Russian gas was cut off and it caused quite substantial balance of payments problems because it had been milking cheap Russian Gas for the best part of 40 years and their economics are based on that status quo remaining the same. However next door France has many nuclear power stations and has no intention of closing any or mothballing one of their main sources of independent fuel security. Germany has to reinvent itself and at this moment in time its not doing much of anything.

If I was a German politician I would approach Norway and beg for some strategic partnership where they could get all the gas and oil that they need. Proximity is the key here as distance is very favourable for some sort of beneficial deal.

prc has a rational, informed and well-educated leadership. they plan, follow the plan, and will prosper, if anyone can. the western nations are in the control of politicians. no hope.
