Brilliant!!! My sister was the same, always running and competing in races for years and then had a stroke a few years back at the age of 49. Like Paul she is a fighter and a year later was back racing. She is a great inspiration to me and like Paul they are real winners. Nice to see Cav helping out, brilliant sprinter.

kudos to him....after being told in 2012 I had 5 brain tumours and not long to live and I should prepare myself for the worst...I gave up smoking and cycle 100 miles a day during the summer and 50 miles per day during the winter, I'm averaging 350 miles per week and lost 7 stone in the process and am beating the tumours cycling is the greatest sport ever.

Still going strong I hope. Last video upload 5th July. Any advice on how to stop smoking?
@DarrenJohnson197310 жыл бұрын
timtak1 yep absolutely, down to 200 miles per week cos of work commitments ,giving up smoking and taking up cycling turned my life around tumours are all but gone, to give up smoking you've got to want to do it for a reason, for me it was the health scare and the realisation of my mortality (the "it will never happen to me" mentality is the wrong one), after several attempts of quitting through different clinics I found one who was really encouraging and a lot through them and some of my willpower , for the 1st 2 weeks you will be driven mad by the cravings but don't give in, lock yourself away as much as possible from other smokers....the smell of smoke to me is now disgusting, and smokers stink...sorry but they do stink it wasn't until I got my sense of smell back that I realised the stench that tobacco smoke produces, even on smokers who at the time don't have a lit cigarette/cigar/pipe. I tried the patches and other aids many times previously in a half hearted attempt, but if you have the right support the patches do really work, the gum and aerosol mist, lozenges and tablets don't. set yourself a date midweek, new years day and mondays have proven not to work as they are too close to times of celebration when the temptation is high, don't wait to finish a packet, set your elected day bin the packet (even if it still has unused cigs in it) and the lighter and ashtray....good luck

Darren Johnson Thank you very much. I have yet to try a clinic. I do only 100 miles a week, and think that I cycle a lot. I can see why a Monday and a holiday would be bad. Today is Tuesday. Perhaps I will give it a go. Good luck with those tumours. I read that many deceased people are found at autopsy to have tumours but just did not know or notice them but kept them at bay by being fit enough to fight them until they die of other causes. Bearing that in mind, I may have some myself. But, I would like to give up smoking for a whole load of reasons, including the fact, as you point out, I stink. Thanks again.

I used Cav in my classroom as a role model. He’s a top lad, always careful to thank his teammates for their roles in his success, accepts awful injuries without complaint or hysteria. Unfortunately I couldn’t think of an overpaid show pony footballer to join him as a role model for my lads.

Fantastic. Great program. Paul, let us know when in 2015 you plan to ride across the U.S. Perhaps we can get a group together to join you on the ride. Riding across the U.S. is my Walter Mitty dream and perhaps we can do it together ... Contact me directly should you be interested.

Amazing stuff. I wonder what happens to the brain damage and wiring when someone makes a recovery like that. Just shows what can be achieved by sheer bloody mindedness!
