Martinez and Shaw are key to the way ETH wants to play, they have about 5 or 6 appearances between them all season.Shaws back-up Malacia, injured all season. Varane, Lindelof, Maguire, Evans, Kambwala, Wan Bissaka all riddled with injuries throughout the season. That's just the defence. Casemiro, Mainoo missed half the season. Mount missed 90%. Hoijlund missed the first few months of the season, his backup Martial was available for about a week. Every team has injuries, none have had them anywhere near as bad United this season.

I honestly think it is a miracle what Ten Hag has achieved this season. People will say 8th spot but another 9 points and we finish 4th. We deserved to beat Burnley and denied at least 2 stonewall pens that game. That is 2 points. Liverpool dive gives them a penalty which is another 2 points. Chelsea get 2 pens against us for virtually no contact which is another 3 points. Hojlund smashed to the ground at Arsenal when if given we could have the lead which could have been another 3 points. Palace home game clear handball not given, potential for another 3 points as it was all Man Utd 2nd half. Tottenham away Romero saves Garnacho shot with hand, clear pen and we battered Spurs that half. If we score we most likely run away with it. Spurs home game Garnacho smashed to the ground and nothing given, another 2 points. I can probably list another few games which ended up costing us points if I wanted. The Fulham home game we battered them but lost somehow which would have been another 3 points.

There was also a Hoijlund winner ruled out by VAR when they adjudged a ball to be out of play from a dodgy angle, and an extremely questionable offside line drawn for the Garnacho disallowed winner vs Arsenal. 5 more points. Of course, ETH would be laughed at by the media whenever he mentioned these but they sure add up. There are also many games we won against superior teams on the day (given our injury crisis).

Every team has injuries yes, however not every team has all injuries only in defence, United back line was crippled the whole season, no left back all season. Take Saliba, one player out of Arsenal and they fall apart, take Rodri out of City, they fall apart, take van Dijk out of Liverpool they fall apart. United had both centre backs, both left backs out for the majority of the season.

We're 2 years into the Ten Hag project, sacking him would derail the development of United's 3 exciting youngsters, and would likely see someone like Fernandes who doesn't have time to do another 5 year project under a new manager leave the club. The candidates they're looking at are woeful too. They aren't talking to Flick or Xavi who have sextuples and league titles under their belt, no they are talking to Pochettino, Frank and McKenna. Let me break it down for the ten hag outers. We have players in this squad from the van gaal era. It’s a mish mash of several playing philosophies. At Liverpool or city, if players get injured, they have a squad with player profiles that can come in and to a large extent the playing philosophy of the manager can continue. At man utd if a player is out, another totally different player will come in who doesn’t suit the philosophy and that disrupts everything. Just look at centre back. Lindelof, maguire aren’t high line front foot defenders. They like a lower block. Give the manager a better squad depth. Get players in. Get other players out. Improve the structure. It’s a free hit for Ineos; let ten hag stay and if he does well next season, great. If he fails blatantly, then you can wield the axe and then you can start your reign of managers. Ten Hag stubbornly stuck to his philosophy and a 4-man forward line with a terribly under-manned midfield. That was Utd’s problem throughout the season and everyone including a blind man and his dog could see it - with the sole exception of Erik Ten Hag. He forgot the first thing every good coach should know. At elite level, games are won and lost in midfield. On Saturday, he played 4 in midfield and 2 up top, rather than the other way around. Maybe Jason Wilcox had something to do with it. But the performance against City was United’s most controlled, and tactically astute performance of the Ten Hag time as coach.
