Mark and Mike from MxPx are the reason I own a Stingray and always chase that tone in whatever I record

Appreciate the shout! These StingRays are the reason I finally got one back in 2019. And having Peachy now? 🤯🤯🤯 The tone of Peachy is incredible, 26+ years after it was built.

The basses used in the tracks on EOTS, based on my best guess: Stingray: “Dumpweed”, “Don’t Leave Me”, “Adam’s Song”, “The Party Song”, “Mutt” Precision Bass: “Aliens Exist”, “Going Away To College”, “What's My Age Again”, “Dysentery Gary”, “Wendy Clear”, “Anthem”

spot on. also atst is with a P

Kinda hard to decipher which bass was used on Dysentery Gary and Anthem, but I’m leaning towards stock Petey. I thought Wendy Clear was a Jazz Bass solo’d in bridge position, then I remember that it was mixed by Jerry instead of TLA, and I realized it’s a P.

I agree with this assessment, but I disagree on Wendy Clear and Anthem. Those two tracks to my ears have that StingRay “doink” that cuts through. The P has a smoother sound, which is apparent on Dysentery Gary.

In the late 90s, I got to do some clean up and set up work for Baby Blue and Peachy when I worked in the set up department at Music Man. They both had matching Anvil cases with faux tiger print lining. They were pretty sweet! It was a great time for Stingrays and punk in general.

Thanks for covering these! Mark’s StingRay era is such an important part off the look, sound, and feel of early Blink, and as much as I love his original run of Fender signature basses, I’d love to see him play an EBMM again someday.

@@dezinhoguitaplays How do you guys get that info? Like, its somewhere on the internet or do you guess by tone, or what?

@@Daniel19gs you can tell by listening very close to the tone, it’s way too different from a p bass tone

Not totally related, but the first version of Mutt was recorded with a P Bass.

I saw the black Stingray in person when we saw them before and for the Dude Ranch tour

Thanks for this. Love the Stingray Mark era. He used them when they were on their way up so I like the history attached to them, especially the black one.

Dumpweed and Mutt are definitely tracked with the Stingray

i wonder if tom was partially inspired to design his custom strats by the single pickup and pearloid pickguard configuration of marks stingrays????
@kurdtjohn5 ай бұрын
Only a one or two tracks off EOTS are kinda ambiguous as to which bass was used to record with. Dumpweed, Don’t Leave Me, Adam’s Song, Mutt, and The Party Song were all tracked with a StingRay. Not entirely sure about Anthem and Dysentery Gary.

i still think that stingray sound was the worst thing to happen to 90s punk. lolz, i hate it! leave em for the bass slappers i say, it fits that whole style way better

I don’t personally like the Sting Ray tone, but I thought it was ok for punk. But yeah, I’m more of a P Bass guy.

It's actually OK to use A Stingray for punk-rock, just make sure not to open the high-end knob frequencies, it's all about the low and the way you use your pick !
