Mike was very comfortable talking with Matt. They both go way back before any stardom or dreams of “making it”. The early Gilman St days were golden and pure, they didn’t care about mainstream success of any sort. Their successes came being true to themselves and playing exactly the music they loved. 👊🏽👍🏽😁🎶🎶

As an East Bay kid who spent a night or two at Gilman and Berkeley Square back in the 80s/90s, it always makes me smile to hear a Crimpshrine shoutout. Thanks to you all for making the East Bay what it was (and is).
@DustinHallXVXАй бұрын
I was just talking to Brian Stern about old East Bay bass players. Listening to Econochrist and Dead and Gone, I had to ask, "Why did you guys play like that?!" So much melodic meandering that was almost completely independent from the rest of the song. He just said that all the East Bay bass players played "busy as hell" back then, which is so true. Thanks for this interview!

Mike Dirnt is such a great punk drummer because he doesn't put himself in a box style-wise. And can write some great bass riffs that don't try to be anything but bass riffs. I'm a guitarist but I'm learning bass and what I'm actually most excited to learn is Green Day and The Beatles, because I just enjoy the bass riffs for those bands a lot. I love seeing Mike here so casual and relaxed with you. Great interview. And thanks to Mike Dirnt for all the great music!
